I always hated how they treated Matsuda, they treated him like crap. And his reaction when he found out Light was Kira was heartbreaking. He trusted Light and was sad that the chief died for nothing. Poor Matsuda😭❤

I completely agree with you. I love Matsuda! He's actually my favorite character and I hate the way they treated him, too. He just wants to help and he tries his hardest, but they just see him as an idiot. Even when he does something that helps the case, they don't acknowledge him for it. And yes, so sad when he learned the truth about Light. The way he says, "Light...why?" and then just drops to his knees is so heartbreaking 😭 He was the one person who never stopped believing in Light. And Matsuda really looked up to Light's dad, too. I'm sure he was like a father figure to Matsuda. Matsu deserves more love. Thanks for watching!

@@KitsunesTrove He was my favorite character in deathnote as he was always kind to everyone and treated everyone like friends. He was also the most open minded of the bunch and even felt bad that he shot Light regardless of him knowing that Light was Kira. Best part is the fact that out of everyone, he didn't even hesitate to shoot Light and was the first one to do so. Those shots led to Light's death regardless of Ryuk writing his name in the death note. Just shows that we should never under estimate no one regardless of who they are or how they act.

@Leon S. Kennedy I agree! Matsuda is my favorite character, too. Even though I loved him from the start, I liked him even more after he shot Light. Overall though, he was always so cheerful and I feel like he's a relatable character, too. Like we've all felt like Matsuda at some point. I also agree with you about him contributing to Light's death. A lot of people will disagree if someone says that Matsuda killed Light. You're right though. The only reason Ryuk wrote Light's name down, was because he had already lost, due to being shot so many times. Imo, even if Ryuk hadn't written Light's name, I think he still would have died from Matsuda's gunshot wounds. Thanks for watching!

Well by the time he shot Light, Near had the Death Note and Light was pretty much busted and at a dead end. He had that tiny piece of a page in his watch but I don't think he was writing too many names on that.

I was re-watching that part and Light does have his back turned, but it looked like Matsuda aimed more to Light's left side and was able to hit the watch that way. If that makes sense, lol. Still a tricky shot. I guess that's why his sharpshooting skills are something he's known for to the others. This is still one of my favorite scenes in the whole series, though. Thanks for watching!

When Matsuda made his first appearance into this series, there wasn’t a clear sign that he would be the one to end Kira. This guy has gone through so much, and it wasn’t easy at all. It required lots of effort and determination like no other... He became a hero...

matsuda is hella underrated and just wholesome in general. he always wanted to help and be of use in the investigation even when he was shunned away and doubted from everyone on the task force :( his light hearted personality is refreshing from all the seriousness of the investigation anyway. but the fact that *spoiler* he’s the one to ultimately shoot light, when he was the one who had the most faith in him and his innocence. he could even understand at some extent why kira did what he did but when he learns light is kira, he had the courage to do that. now that’s character development at its finest. did i mention he’s cute too

I agree. I love Matsuda! He's my favorite character for so many reasons. In fact, I posted a video about why Matsuda is my favorite character and I bring up many of the same points that you do. I did always hate how everyone else treated him and acted like he was an idiot. He's really not stupid and only wanted to do what he could to help. He actually got them a big break in the case during the Yotsuba arc, but of course Matsuda doesn't get any credit for it. I allso really like his sense of humor, his innocence, and his ability to see both sides of the Kira debate. Matsuda shooting Light is one of my favorite scenes in the series. And as you mentioned, it realky shows Matsuda's character development. I wanted Light to lose anyway, but the fact that it was Matsuda who did it, was even better. You can tell how betrayed Matsuda felt to learn that Light was Kira. I think Light's total remorse for his father’s death, really pushed Matsu over the edge, too. Matsuda is just such a fun, relatable character and he deserves more love for sure. And you’re right...Matsuda is such a cutie, too. Thanks for watching!

Matsuda is actually my favorite character. And I also think he's really cute too. You're right though, he is an essential part of the story. Some people think that he was useless or unnecessary, but he plays a vital role. I did always hate the way the other characters treat him. They acted like he was an idiot, but he's actually pretty smart and he was beneficial to the investigation. I do like that he was the one to shoot Light too. It wouldn't have been as surprising or exciting if Aizawa or any of the others shot him. With Matsuda, you don't see it coming, especially since he openly supported Light for the entire series. There's actually a six year age gap between them as Matsuda is 25 at this time and Misa is 19. Still not a big age gap though and I always found it funny that she considered him an "old guy", lol. Thanks for watching!

I agree completely! Matsuda is my favorite character and you're right, he is just so cute. I hate the way he was always treated by the others. They act like he's a useless idiot, when he's actually smarter than any of them give him credit for, and he really helps out in the investigation, too. Thanks for watching!

He sure did! I loved Matsuda from the beginning, but I loved him even more after he shot Light. I like that it was Matsuda who shot him too, because he was the one person who always believed in Light.

he’s so easy to like. although L and Light are my fav characters, i as well like Matsuda. however, he did shoot Light, but it was uncalled for considering his emotions got into him and he had low expectations to Light being kira which lead to him being extremely hurt

That's true. He was the one person who believed in Light up until the very end, so he probably felt betrayed. I also think another thing that pushed Matsuda over the edge in that scene, was Light's total lack of remorse for the death of his father, who Matsuda really respected and looked up to. Matsuda is my favorite character in the series, and I love that he was the one to shoot Light. Not only was he the first one to question whether or not they should catch Kira, as you mentioned, but he was also the only one on the task force who believed in Light's innocence completely. Which made it even more surprising when Matsuda shot him. Thanks for watching!

@@erendripaeger9875 Yeah, I felt so bad for Matsuda when he learned the truth. You could just see how hurt and betrayed he felt.

I don't think it's even possible to not like Matsuda he's the true definition of friend goals and I think Vincent Tong's voice is a big part of why he's so lovable. Seeing him using that gun on Light was awesome but damn do I wish i could hug him in that moment.

Matsuda is my favorite Death Note character! And him shooting Light is honestly one of my favorite scenes. I think Light having no remorse for his father's death really pushed Matsuda over the edge. The Chief was probably like a father to Matsuda himself. And Vincent Tong is a great voice actor. He really makes you feel sympathetic toward Matsuda too. Thanks for watching my videos!

Same! Matsuda is my favorite character and I hate the way he's treated by everyone else.Matsuda's birthday is coming up on Dec. 14. Yea, he is what most of us, people watching the show would be like if we were really engaged in the Kira investigation. Wanting, almost desperatly, to do somethink meaningfull, having doubts about Kira's place and negative moral judgement about him and more caring about which girl Light choses instead of is he gonna survive xD

Matsuda is my second favorite character in the series. I don't think he ever really got his just credit. He was loyal and at Chief Yagami's side every step of the way, he was the one raising all the moral questions and observations, and Light would ultimately die by Matsuda's hand. Symbolically, Matsuda was the moral absolution that Light claimed to have sovereignty over.

Yes, I agree with you completely! Matsuda is actually my favorite character in the series and he is one of the most moral as well.. He was able to see and understand the perspective of the Kira supporters and even questioned whether or not Kira was really evil. Yet, he also saw it from the other side and knew that as a detective, it was his duty to help them catch Kira. And yeah, he was very loyal to Chief Yagami. I'm sure Matsuda probably saw him as a father figure, too. I do hate how the other characters treated him sometimes. They acted like Matsuda was a useless idiot, never believing in him, and then not giving him credit when he did help out. When actually, he's pretty smart and helped out tremendously. I do love how he was the one to take down Light though. Especially since, up until then, he had been the only one on the team who believed in Light completely. Thanks for watching!

@@graceojeda1511 Yeah, but I think that was probably because Light was seriously, and likely mortally, wounded by Matsuda. Ryuk killed Light because he said Light had lost. This is probably because Ryuk knew that Light would possibly die from all the gunshot wounds. Matsuda didn't kill Light directly, but I like to think that he led to Light's death in a way. I do want to believe this, because Matsuda is my top favorite character in the series, but I think it's true as well. Imo, Matsuda was indirectly responsible for Light dying. That's just how I see it anyway.

Ikr? Kai and Matsuda gave the same VA, Vincent Tong! I agree with you, too. I think Matsuda is just so cute. And funny, too. Besides Vincent Tong, there's two other Death Note VAs in Ninjago. Sam Vincent who voices Gevanni and Sidoh, is Lloyd in Ninjago. And the late Kirby Morrow, did the voice of Mikami in Death Note and Cole in Ninjago. Thanks for watching!

Very likely. And for Matsuda at least, probably guilt over shooting Light and ultimately leading to his death. In the manga, it shows that even after he shot Light, Matsuda still tried to help him, but Aizawa stopped him; this happens in the TV drama, too. And in the last chapter of the manga, which they didn't animate, Matsuda and Ide have a discussion where Matsuda wonders if they did the right thing or not. It wouldn't surprise me though, as you mentioned, if they didn't all have some form of survivors' guilt, too. Matsuda, Aizawa, and Near are my top three favorite characters though, so I'm glad they ended up surviving. Thanks for watching!
