I am a doctor,I used to live and work at Singapore. My father was unwell and I was returning from Jaipur to Singapore after meeting him, via scoot airlines which is a budget airline. They made an announcement almost 2 more hours before landing if there is a doctor onboard. I volunteered, an man was having Chest pain, I took his BP which was quite high, I was happy airlines had essential medicines I needed,to control his BP and gave blood thinners. They started giving him oxygen, I told them we need to divert to nearest location,we landed at Malaysia in half hour and immediately the medical came to flight, took patient over from me,he was stable by then, BP had come down and we left for Singapore. Few days later the flight attendants called me and gave me business class tickets to travel anywhere. I am just appalled the treatment this gentleman man received.

Asians are emotional people who think from their heart and not head. Their emotions weigh more than their materialistic gains. The so-called propaganda of compassion, equality, and value of human life is just an eyewash in the Western countries. Money matters most to them. God is watching and the responsible people are gonna pay for this one-day!

This just hits home for me. I am so thankful we sent my father back to India when he had heart issues. We went to emergency three times in Canada and no doctor had any idea that his symptoms were heart-related. Google knew better. After landing in India, a Cardiology hospital admitted him to ICU on the same day. His heart’s ejection rate was 15%. He was this close to complete heart failure. With how poor healthcare system is in Canada, it’s no surprise a Canadian airline handled it so poorly. I am so sorry for your loss. Stay strong.

Thank you for your kind words. My dad fought hard for 9 hours. Had these brutal people shown little empathy and had any humanity left in them, then he would be with us today. At least they should have tried to save a human life. This propaganda of value of human life in the west is just an eye wash & a trick of minting money from immigrants who leave their country for a better life. The shameless people are not even willing to tell why they did not divert the flight. God is watching them and they all are going to pay for this one day!!

It's a very important subject of case study. Podcast's discussion is brilliantly narrating the chronology and flight location of the incident. Hi Candid cast team, the video teaches us a lot. My heart goes out to the suffering couple. Around 2 years back while going to Canada with my daughter by Air Canada we too had a very bad experience. It was clearly racism. Next time when we had to come back to India we booked Air India which got delayed by Around 24 hours. I was connected to a travel Facebook group to seek travel related help during pandemic. Everyone was literally giving it to AI with all sorts of abusive word. After 24 hours while boarding the flight I came to know the reason for delay. A lady in the flight was feeling uneasy n breathless after the last flight took off n the pilot immediately decided to divert the flight. The staff was all with her untill she was sent to the hospital. It was her daughter who had come to the airport to collect her mom's luggage told us the storey. I realized that how wrong we all were...

This is utterly inhumane on Air Canada's part. Air Canada should prioritize humanitarian assistance on their flights, ensuring they have the necessary emergency equipment and trained staff. In situations like this, they should prioritize human lives over cost considerations and business interests. Harmeet, I would suggest you to make sure you please talk to people once before bringing them to your show. If something extremely sad has happened, people may be in a state of grief and may use bad words and use too demonizing words for Canada. You should suggest people to use softer words. Imagine Canadian ministers watching these videos - what are they going to think. This is not the only video. I have seen so many videos in which people use so hard words. We are all educated people - should use softer language.

Just watched this podcast, first of all my heartfelt condolences to family Pandey, must say Mrs Pandey ,you are such a brave lady, i am amazed how bravely you managed everything, hats off to you. May your fathers soul rest in peace. I have worked as a trainee in Air India in Frankfurt, we used to have flights for Toronto Del Fra Can , there were many passengers who were in their 80s, travelling to and fro, perpetually not exaggerating there on every flight a death. Heart attacks are very common, Reason being the air pressure in the flight , Airplane cabins are not pressurized to sea level. Air pressure in the cabin falls with increasing altitude, resulting in a decrease in blood oxygen level (hypoxemia), more so in elderly passengers. Then sitting too long can cause blood clots. The Airlines are aware of these things, sorry to say when a passenger is in his 80s , usually people say its ok even if he dies he has lived hs age, But thats very inhuman. Now diverting a flight, making an emergency landing due to a situation like your father they will never do, even if a pilot is having a heart attack the co pilot takes over till his destination is reached. An emergency landing rights are given when there are chances of a plane crash only. As i recollect , Air india had stopped taking senior passengers on board for many years, but then AI had stopped flying from frankfurt to Canada s well. As correctly assumed by Mr Pandey the airlines are used to seniors often getting heart attacks , t was nothing new for them. Its a daily routine. Sorry for your loss, but trust me you can try to sue them you will not get a penny as there hidden rules and regulations of travel are so minutely written a normal person can never understand. These guys have powerful lawyers, hope in the end the Company might ask you to pay the back for their lawyers costing. Sad it has happened , good you guys have spoken your heart out, and alerted many people about your experience. The bottomline is think well before flying with senior citizens on such long flights, take halts if you can break the journey overnight , and then travel. Good podcast, to the host keep up the good work.Thanks.

Alas! this is the irony which makes it even more painful.

Thank you for your kind words and support. Yes, some people have commented that my father had lived a full life. It is quite a brutal thing to hear. But, I just want to ask, have there not been instances when the flights have been diverted due to the unruly behaviour of a passenger and other trivial issues? I have heard from so many friends that emirates diverted the flight, and even Air India when there was a medical emergency on board. Is it a norm in the airlines in the West that they value their materialistic gain over human life? There are so many questions that have been left unanswered and open-ended. Thank you for bringing your experience and Knowledge to light.

@@shanupande8060 Many answers go unanswered for the time being but with time the answers come if we have faith in whatever we practise as a religion or spiritually. As heard my mom always said "Mauth khabhi bhi khud per blame leti, koi na koi bahna bana deti hai" This has a deep meaning . Life and death is in not our hands, if we accept this Shanu ji, you will allow your father's soul to be at peace. Your trauma is understandable ,you must talk out all your expiernces and emotions to help yourself, if this stays embedded in you will suffer more. Please take some proffesional help aswell. You have a very supportive husband, he is doing best to his capacity, I saw all the email address that were posted in the description box, great job done. Haven't you heard women delivering during the flight. Odd cases do happen, as they are bound to happen it was so written. Dad's demise is very sad thing to happen, if you see another way, you were atleast with him, you have been living away from India so long, in his last breath you were with him your sister in India wasn't there. These words are extremly cruel when people say he or she has lived his years especially for those who are hail and hearty, if somebody is suffering I can understand. There is no harm in trying to still go through a lawyer and get your answers from the airlines, I will only say you are ruining your nerves, this processes can take ages. On the other hand you might be able to make airline realise in future for 16hrs of flight it should be mandatory to have a doctor on board. My heartfelt ♥️ Condolences to each and every family member. We can only pray to God to help you all to get your answers and be peaceful. Stay strong.God bless.🙏🙏

Also force them to give out the call transcripts between pilots and ground. They don't give it to us but make sure to ask your lawyer to request for this to see if Pilot understood what crew said and relayed it correct. Also it is very strange that Pilot/Copilot didn't come and evaluate the patient's situation to make a decision.

I personally returned back to Canada because I travelled and lived alone for almost two years and I faced so much racism and I knew i would be dead because MOST of the Canadians do not care for any human values, god is watching them and they will pay for what they’re doing to our country men. I am so so sorry, I hope the family finds healing with time. And the man is right, they’re treating us Indians like we are garbage. I will try to spread the story as much as I can, thanks Candid Cast for helping them share their story.

If they knew it was heart attack, may be they were right for not giving water or electrolytes bcoz giving water or food during heart attack can cause choking & vomiting. However, they were definitely wrong for not diverting the flight knowing it was a heart attack! It’s really sad & frustrating to even listen how they treated them 😡 keep continuing the fight for justice. If they are emailing you separately not looping in everyone, you attach that email & respond back looping in everyone

We have seen lower level employees create issues but higher management is highly sensitive about all such issues. You are 100% right, if it were a white man, then the story would have been different altogether because their government would intervene. Indian government is just not bothered. We have tried approaching the external affairs ministry but there is no word from them. Sadly, we don’t value our own citizens, and that’s why they are treated this way all over the world

We have consulted so many doctors and given interviews in CBC and Toronto Global News. CBC contacted five top cardiologists and they are shocked as to why the plane was not diverted. They deemed it as an urgent medical emergency. What Air Canada has done is an unpardonable sin. Please sign and share the petition as much as you can, so that the dark truth of Air Canada is exposed. Everyone living outside India specially Canada and UK should get a course in first aid. Even I am living in London and planning for same. Its not like India here that you can get immediate medical help whenever you need. Only ER is open after 6 p.m. and the closest ER can be too far to reach on time. Ambulance might take time to come and one can get stuck in such situations.

Secondly we get a complete body checkup of him every 6 months back in India including detailed MRI , all scans, x-rays, ultrasounds, blood tests etc, heart stress tests. He went to KSA when he was 70 on a 3 hour flight and we took approvals from cardiologist/nephrologist/ neurologist/ general physician before travelling. Never take your parents for granted. Heartfelt condolences to the family for their loss. It's truly saddening to hear about the passing of their father during the flight. Kudos to the flight attendants and the crew of Air Canada for their dedication and professionalism. They did their utmost to help the passenger, even keeping him alive until the plane reached the gate, which is truly remarkable. It's crucial for passengers to respect and follow the instructions of flight attendants and the airline's protocols during a flight. Ridiculing or disregarding their guidance can lead to complications, and it's essential to trust their training and expertise. Additionally, passengers cannot approach the pilot to request a diversion as it's a security violation, and airline procedures and regulations are in place for safety and operational reasons. Regarding the use of social media and the flight's black box, it's important to understand their purposes. The black box is not meant for such incidents, and passengers can't request flight diversions through the pilot. In challenging times like this, sending a letter of thanks and appreciation to Air Canada would be a more constructive approach, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the airline staff. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.

Hey Guys, First off sorry for your loss. I have a Medical + a legal perspective to this situation hence am commenting here. Regret, I am being very direct, blunt and straight forward in my response to you. I only support u being an Indian. I am from Bombay, living in USA. FYI, I have lived in Toronto (1993-1996) also and am a Canadian & American citizen. I have seen your whole video and think you are being purely emotional about the episode of your father passing away in flight. Get this understood: The airline or crew will not dispense any prescription medications. They are only trained in bare basic first aid. It is assumed that the passengers will carry whatever medications or allowable equipments they require on their journey. No airlines will divert any flights due to medical emergencies, 99.9 out of 100 is the probability due to the cost's in doing so. To expect that also is crazy, but at that time your focus is your loved ones so i understand. But decisions need to be made with your brains instead of anywhere else. Level heads prevailing is very important for everything. There is always risk in any journey such a risk is that of the patient not the airlines. The problem didn't occur due to the airline. The airline or its crews have no liability in this case. Its only your emotional demands due to your loss that you say so. The crews handling and thereafter whatever their local officials did was only to cover their LIABILITIES (back side) and nothing else !!! I agree that the crew could have and should have been warm, instead of being so cold, but they were only scared and were worried about LIABILITIES for their employer. Feel free to call me or message me, if you want to talk with me and can handle the truth as mentioned above, on 1-407-468-4573

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. It's a simple principle of medicine - Time is Muscle (heart muscle). Based on this, conversation, it looks like for the airline Time was Money. The discussion is eye opening and shows the lack of compassion and competency of crew. The knowledge of the crew to manage the situation seems to lack basic training for first aid, especially the crew not knowing about the role of taking vitals and the role of ORS (mixture of sugar, salt, and water). What shocked me was that the crew were not trained for simple things like measuring BP. Scared to fly AC in the future. Our prayers for departed soul. RIP 🙏🏻

I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family for their tragic loss. It's truly heartbreaking to hear about such a sad incident. While it's natural to hope for assistance during a medical emergency on a flight, we should also remember that airlines and flight attendants are not medical professionals. Expecting them to have the training and equipment of paramedics or to divert flights for medical emergencies can be logistically challenging and potentially impractical. Medical emergencies can happen anywhere, it could have been very well at home at night while he was sleeping; and it's important for passengers to be aware of the limitations when they travel. I think the lesson for the airline is to get perhaps a consent, like a waiver, where passengers understand that the airline may not be equipped to handle certain medical situations and the passengers waive all liabilities to the airline. Again, my thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. May their father rest in peace. Writing to officials and placing blame on the airline may not necessarily provide the closure or answers they seek. Ultimately, some aspects of life are beyond our control, and accepting this reality can be a source of strength and resilience. They've clarified that it's not about seeking compensation from the airline so let them clearly give this message and deny.

9:01: My condolences to the family for their loss. I am a physician and over the last 40 years of flying internationally I have responded to exactly 4 calls by the pilot or a cabin crew member for help from “any physician onboard the flight”. Cabin crew are generally trained in CPR and basic first aid and have basic medications like acetaminophen, anti nausea medications, antacids, and other minor medications. They always carry a sphygmomanometer or other device to measure BP. In my most recent flight from Malaga to Frankfurt by Lufthansa last month, I had the opportunity to respond to a call for help to assist an elderly woman. Unfortunately we cannot expect the Airlines to provide a doctor on board and full facilities like a hospital with intensive care needs. The airlines generally are expected to, and for the most part, have procedures and protocols to help sick passengers. It was fate and destiny. People get sick and outcomes can be bad. There is no guarantee that people can be saved at ground level with all available facilities. May God give the family the patience and the courage to bear their heavy loss.

Thank you for your kind words. However, as I have mentioned in my podcast, the crew was extremely incompetent and apathetic. They were shameless enough to tell me that they had a mercury, BP monitor, that they did not know how to use. Being first aid trainers, they never attempted to take the vitals of my father. My father bravely fought for 9 hours. Not even once did they tried to divert the flight. Why?? was it because my dad was an Indian or their materialistic gain valued over human life? Had my dad passed away after getting a medical attention, I would not be so traumatized. He was denied the basic right to live, and literally left to die. How brutal can that be? God is watching all of them and they all are going to pay for this one day!
