I think the rapping is meant to sound like a insane man all the lyrics are so weird and it almost sounds like he’s just rambling nonsense over the beat it’s great

Honestly, MC Ride is really underrated as a rapper, in both lyrics and delivery. Show any rapper "Criminal intent/anti legal ill/thief in the night/peel your life back/spin the wheel" and nobody else is coming up with a flow like that On top of that, to keep in mind if you do Exmilitary, I don't think there's a song in hip hop that makes a stronger case for hip hop as a form of poetry than Beware, would really recommend diving into that track specifically, as to me it's kind of like the thesis statement of everything they made after, it kind of feels like every rapper that calls themselves a demon is just being sort of inhabited by it while MC Ride is sort of the personification of that demon, as like a sort of portrait of someone existing in the circumstances of capitalism pushed to a breaking point where there is a complete mental separation from society at large, and vowing to live as a malevolent consuming force that isn't just antithetical to capitalism but antithetical to everything, I think he is saying this is the base spirit underlying rap as the operative mode of expression under capitalism, the impulse to survive inevitably becoming the impulse to conquer, completely unrestricted, and everyone else becomes an obstacle or an enemy. He is sort of similar to the Judge in Blood Meridian, very "everything that exists does so without my consent" type shit

I used to make my own music and rap about stuff like this lmao and I would also listen to artist like Flatbush zombies, pro era, earl, and sh*t even street rappers would rap like this sometimes his delivery was just different the things he raps about is pretty common in hip hop/rap from has to brotha lynch hung, big lerch, mf doom, wu-tang, 36 mafia etc but thank you soo much watching I’m glad people are watching the lyric breakdowns 😭

DG’s style or genre characterization is most commonly considered to be a industrial hip-hop, digital hardcore, noise rock etc. but it’s honestly just kinda useless to categorize them because they cover so much ground over the course of their discography. I think experimental hip-hop or digital punk is the most all-encompassing way to categorize their sound

Saw them live early October, the keyboardist wasn’t there but the guitarist Nick Reinhart worked on Fashion Week, Jenny Death and The Bottomless Pit. Absolutely insane show, no breaks in between songs, only crowd interaction was Ride mouthing something while pointing at us and Zach Hill giving us hand signs at the end lol Never seen so much energy

Hope to see you react to the bottomless pit album from death grips next. That’s their best album imo. That was the album that introduced me to them and got me hooked on the band. I think that album has their strongest work on it.

I used to say it was my favorite, but The Money Store is like Certified Hood Classic™ territory, and I now put No Love Deep Web on the same level as The Bottomless Pit.
