There's a video game coming out soon called Black Myth: Wukong, which is an action game along the lines of Devil May Cry and Dark Souls starring Sun Wukong. It's been in development for some time, and looks incredible. You guys should check it out.

Loki says he's burdened with Glorious Purpose. Sun Wukong is complete randomness and a complete absence of impulse control who managed to piss off everyone with his obsession with being the absolute G.O.A.T. The Monkey King was basically the first internet troll.

As someone who has read through the Original Journey to the West, Death Battle didn't mention the ridiculous number of other powers and abilities Sun Wukong posses that could have won him this fight, Firstly He was once able to freeze time over a city for an hour to help his comrades escape from the local government, He is able to remove the souls of people, Manipulate the weather and even create clones of those that are weaker than him with ALL their powers and abilities, Especially since Wukong's clones don't lose any power. This isn't even the extent of it however, At the end of the Journey To The West, Wukong achieved Nirvana, becoming Enlightened. Enlightenment allows one to be completely free of all concpets of existence, no longer being tied down by reality, a enlightened creature cannot be effected by the rules of existence any longer, He is incapable of dying as the literal concept of death OR life do not apply to him anymore, nor does any other concept of existence, it is infact impossible to TRULY describe a enlightened being as someone Enlightened is no longer bound by ANYTHING.

@@jefftonsman They are equals in strength because both are able to lift immesaurable weight, Wukong is quintillions of times faster than light though that part is meaningless if you consider Enlightened wukong who is omnipresent so speed really isn't a factor for him and lastly, Again if we consider Enlightened wukong which is wukong's peak, no concepts of existance (such as death) apply to him so no poison could kill him, because there is no killing him, he isn't alive or dead, he is and isn't.

Not only did Sun Wukong be made into many Anime and other shows and One I grew up on Was Monkey Magic done in the early 80's was based on his story of journey into the west. I also liked the style they did for this battle hope to see more reactions.

Sun Goku is literally Sun Wukong in Japanese

Basically, it the prequel to Goku vs Superman. As both characters represent the Eastern and Western comic entertainments. For example, Hercules what's the inspiration for most modern superheroes like Superman, Wonderman, and Thor. While Sun Wukong was the inspiration for modern anime protagonists like Son Goku, and Monkey D. Luffy.

For more Sun Wukong I really reccomend you to check out "Legends Summarized: The Journey To The West" by Overly Sarcastic Production. Charming artstyle and a great narrator for the incredible story.

Fun Fact: Sun Wukong was based off the Hamuma, a Monkey faced God in Hinduism. It was said that as a child. He flew across the solar system to reach the sun. Thinking it was a fruit. But was struck down by a lighting god.

Sun from RWBY is one of many fictional characters based on Son Wukong. Another well known one is Goku from Dragon Ball

Theres a lot of anime that's inspired by journey to the west, it's crazy! I hope death battle does more battles like this, it was a really nice change of pace to match up mythological heroes!

Glad you guys enjoyed this one. I'm slowly making my way through your playlist and think I'll be all caught up soon. I'd recommend Jak & Daxter vs Ratchet and Clank death battle as well

Plus, sure, the arrow dipped in Hydra blood may have been able to kill wukong with his first method to obtain inmotality but not after erasing his name from the book of death. Even if he got hit or damaged with the arrows he can't die because death literally can't see him anymore and wouldn't come for him. The same reason not even the buddha could kill him and he just imprisoned him.

Well, Buddha is pacifist, that is, he wouldn't kill if lesser punishment is not enough. But he will not stop or get mad on someone if they kill in his presence.

How do I keep forgetting this one exists!? It's one of the best and most unique Death Battles. Every time I come across this one again, I think "This is one of the best" and yet forget whenever I think back on past Death Battles.

This battle was the most entertaining to witness two gods facing off each other and witness some stunning animation done for it 😄 also it seems interesting that Sun’s voice is being Sun from RWBY being used in this battle.

Half of all anime is inspired from Journey to the West

Sun Wukong is a chinese deity, known as the Great Sage Equal to Heaven. He has 72 transformations (the number actually means limitless tranformations). His name, if translated into japanese becomes Son Goku. You know, the boy with monkey tail, can ride nimbus cloud, have a staff that can grow long, and trained by god (Kami). Current Goku has like ... 7 transformations and challenged gods left and right, my bad its an anime!

You probably wouldn't know because it was his first movie and he is credited as Arnold Strong. Also the original cut they dub over his voice, and it's a very hilarious low budget movie and worth a watch.

The first matchup of its kind, a mythology fight. Here's hoping Odin vs Zeus is soon.

Kind of a random suggestion but if you want to learn more about Son Wukong’a epic tail i recommend’Overly Sarcastic Productions: journey to the west’ series. Kind of a highlight reel of the monkey kings wildest adventures from the book

just a note of how the death battles are done. they go through it as if the characters have done a hundred battles against each other. and they would claim who would win the majority.

The poison arrow wouldn’t kill him, as they stated (As sun wukong has multiple layers of immortality) but at best would incapacitate him. Is that a win? I don’t think so. I think Sun takes the win 100% of the time.

Death Battle has said multiple times that in the cases of characters that can't die, if they're knocked out for a long enough period, it counts as a win. They've covered this when they talked about the possibility of putting Voldemort into a Death Battle, since he has immortality due to the Horcruxes, they talked about it in the Q@A for Darkseid vs Thanos about how even if Thanos could escape the Omega Sanction, it wouldn't be immediately and that would be enough to count as a victory, and other times.

Sun Wukong would DESTROY Superman. Remember Wukong has the 72 Transformations and is downright indestructible and immortal. It doesn't mean Wukong can transform into 72 things. Nonononono, that is a complete misconception and misunderstanding of his abilities. 72 Transformations mean Wukong has 72 UNIQUE and separate powers/abilities, with shapeshifting being ONLY ONE OF THEM. The rest of the powers make Wukong pretty much an omnipotent character. The others include superstrength, superspeed, flying, phasing through ground, phasing through rocks/walls, traveling underground while phased through the ground (like Shadow Cat from X-men), firebeathing, breathing underwater, moving through water like moving through air, creating impregnable wards/barriers, paralysing others with a single finger point, animating inanimate objects (how he made his cudgel fight autonomously while he chilled), creating copies of himself OR the opponent (Wukong could totally create copies of Superman and have them gang on him), vanquishing Deities and Demons (part of his 72 Transformations is the ability to kill Deities and Demons themselves permanently. That's why the Deities and Demons are so scared of him), telekinesis, summoning a specific object to you (like Harry Potter's Acio spell), summoning and destroying souls (even ghosts will die a second time), calling for a Deity's aid (like if he call for them they will know it in the Heavens. Then they will descend to aid Wukong as quickly as they can because none of them will want to piss him off), creating healing potions and pills, always knowing his directions and where to go (Wukong is like a cosmic GPS. You can throw him to another planet in another galaxy in another universe and he will know the way back to Earth. That's why in all illustrations for Journey to the West Wukong is always in front, because he knows the way and is guiding the party), reading one's fate and future through Astronomy, changing fate and destiny with magic (Wukong can change the fate of others, it is part of his powers), substitution technique (like Naruto's Substitution Jutsu. When Wukong takes a blow, he can substitute an object to take his place and escape. He can even use a clone of himself to do this to feign death while escaping), astral projection, entering dreams (not even Freddy is safe in his homeground. Remember he can kill demons and ghosts), invisibility, summoning animals from the vicinity, commanding and controlling animals, immune to fire and burns, can eat ANYTHING and not get sick (including rocks, glass, poison, heck even Putin's radioactive tea), immune to freezing and cold, can shoot lasers from his eyes (that's right, he can do Optic Blasts), can survive decapitation and reattach the head, can summon rain, can summon wind, can call the clouds to block the sky, can wield all weapons with max proficiency even weapons he touch and use for the very first time (he can totally use a gun or drive a tank or fighter jet because technically they are weapons too). So far that's all that I can remember and name off the bat, I need to reread the Journey to the West to remember the others.

Fun fact: The first arc of the original Dragonball (so the stuff BEFORE what you watched in abridged) was actually directly modeled after Journey to the West (where Wukong came from). It started off as a silly/jokey direct parody of it. Sun Wukong translated into Japanese is literally Son Goku-- that's why Goku has a tail, a power pole, and flies on a nimbus (even though these became irrelevant in Z), and the original characters have the exact same initial story role/similar powers. Their journey to get the dragonballs was similar to the literal Journey to the West. Pigsy = Oolong (both perverted shapeshifting tricksters), Sandy = Yamcha (both weak fighters who never win and meat-headed desert bandits), and ironically, Bulma by default served the Monk Tripitaka role, even though their personalities are polar opposites (unlike Bulma, the monk's all about purity, but like Bulma, he's completely defenseless/needs to be protected and is what the original motive/direction comes from). Wukong's best friend the Ox King also = Chichi's dad, the Ox King. Oh, and the three-eyed god from the heavens who evenly fought Wukong = Tien (although there are no backstory similarities with that one, just the initial power level/three-eyes gimmick). Wukong's master was also a hermit like Roshi. All the Saiyan stuff that comes later in Z has almost nothing to do with it though (other than a lot of Shounen tropes in general coming from Journey to the West's storytelling style).

If you think about it, Goku had a cloud to ride on. he had the Staff which could change it´s lenght. Also Trunks said "So you are Sun Wukong, right?" and talking about eating...

The minotaur was from -Perseus's- Theseus's tale.

Sun Wukong games: - Enslaved, Black Myth: Wukong & Monkey King Returns

If you want to watch something with Wukong in it: I'd give Lego Monkie Kid a shot. It takes places after he retires in a sense and now acts as a mentor to a kid who took up the name. It has fun characters, better villains, and the animation is jaw dropping. Not to mention a lot of well known VAs voice the characters like how the Monkey King himself is played by Goku's English voice actor. It all comes full circle.

I'm surprised you didn't comment on Sun Wukongs Japanese name being Son Goku. That anime was inspired by wukong, starting it all.

I absolutely loved learning about Wukong.

Based on the info Death Battle provided, I can see why she thought Hercules was smarter, but Sun Wukong is actually wise and clever. He outwits his enemies all the time. He does it even in fights where he has a clear strength advantage just because he likes to mess with people. Death Battle also forgot to mention Sun Wukong won a 1 vs 100,000 battle against gods.

"Can he beat Goku?" no he is Goku. The original Dragonball was just Journey to the West in cartoon form. It's Son Wukong in Chinese, Son Goku in Japanese

There’s a reason why he has a collection of lingerie and bunny costumes that would fit a 14 year old girl. Sandy is a little harder to pin down. Despite his name, he’s actually a water demon, but I believe that Bulma’s blue hair is a reference to the character. Or it’s Yamaha the Desert Bandit. Sand -Desert get it? Now the monk. He doesn’t arrive in the story of for a long time. Same with the Dragon Ball equivalent. But unlike The Journey to the west, Krillian is the most UnMonk Monk. Hardly the pure spirit destined to deliver the seven scrolls.

Son Goku for DBZ is totally supposed to be Sun Wukong, the monkey king, form the way he acts, to the pigman friend, and his staff weapon is almost exactly the same including how it was meant to be just a pillar holding up a god's house, also you know...monkey people with the power to fight gods.

Sun Wukong sprout a lot of legendary pop culture and tales. He's a prick, but his path of redemption really mellowed him out. I love Sun Wukong because he's the lovable goof with good instincts but is very mischievous. He did lash out a lot to the monk he was traveling with, but he always came back to do the right thing. As a immortal who has very human emotions and reactions, compared to the Jade Emperor or Buddha, it makes WuKong a very enjoyable character in myths and legends.

I was wondering if you guys could react to videos from the channel called Oceaniz, he does vids about the Monster Hunter franchise and is a great narrator. If not obvious, Sun Wukong is the inspiration behind a lot of anime and game characters. Goku most off, being a monkey child of great strength and tenacity, a flying cloud, and a size changing pole. Hell, then name "Son Goku" is just the Japanese reading of "Sun Wukong". But beyond that, just his personality has heavily impacted anime. For every protagonist with a seemingly endless appetite, mischievous nature, not being the brightest bulb, and love of fighting, you can thank the Monkey King.

It's not so much that Buddha outsmarted Sun Wukong but more that his reach was far beyond Sun Wukong's understanding. As it said Buddha reached Nirvana essentially he achieved the highest level of enlightenment that made him able to more or less become one with the universe itself. The universe is something that Buddha can control as he is one with the universe.

There’s another major myth in Chinese lore that is often referenced and still talked about. It’s the legend of the Eight immortals. Their deeds are legendary. They were said to have slain demons, given advice to emperors, and lived since the dawn of time. Plus more that is still being discovered in texts. Each immortal was symbolized by a specific item and those items in family crests still to this day. Honestly I don’t know what they actually did because it’s just been passed on for centuries that nobody really knows the exact origin of the myth. My family crest has the flower symbol from the immortals although we do not claim any heritage from them though. We do claim a branch family of one of the old emperors as he gave us a family name.

Sun Wukong is the father of the big three of anime. Sun Goku from Dragon Ball Monky D Luffy from One Piece Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. (Boruto: Naruto next Generations dosen't count, because it ruined all the characters we loved and it's boring)

Believe it or not....i wanted monkey King to win cause I like his funny and mischievous personality.......plus cloning your self from a strand of your hair..... hilarious but effective....herc was also my fav....but because I played sun in a game dota 2 and loved his stuff I wanted him to win.....hahahaha(sun laughing)

Just going to throw out there that, while the outcome is definitely correct, these two are not equal in speed and strength. Sun Wukong absolutely has the speed advantage and Hercules definitely has the strength advantage.

So you assume that Hercules wins by "intellect and wit", but not Sun Wu Kong. That shows you know absolutely nothing about Sun Wu Kong. You judge him only because he was "outsmarted" by Buddha but don't know that Buddha symbolizes the ultimate divine power that transcends all existence. Human qualities such as "intellect and wit" or "strength" are nothing to that level of existence. Thus, to think in terms of being "outsmarted" by the divine is already an invalid concept. Thus, no being can "outsmart" Buddha. So, it is funny that you based your judgment of Sun Wu Kong on that alone.
