I saw Chris live at the first GroundUp Music Festival. Within a period of about 4-5 hours he played a relatively traditional bluegrass duo with Michael Davies, then he killed the feature solo spot on one of Snarky Puppy's most well-known tunes, and then slayed it with Harry Shearer doing a Derek Smalls/Spinal Tap show. I can confidently say that there is literally no genre that Chris Thile can't make a mandolin work with.
