Deals with the Devil

Deals with the devil transcript: Today we are going to be diving into stories about people who decided to deal with the dubious demon himself selling their immortal souls for mere shekels. By dealing with the devil, you have to accept that there is an afterlife and that you're gonna be burning for eternity after you get your 15 minutes of fun. To start with we are going to go back to one of the earliest examples of devil dealing which is the German magician that was known as Johann Georg Faust many believe is the Faust of folklore, id accuse him of being in league with the devil for that magnificent beard alone but that’s just me, the story begins with Faust a depressed scholar who attempts to take his own life and after failing he calls upon the devil for magical powers and unseen knowledge. The devil sends Mephistopheles who bargains with Faust lending him his magical powers for many years in exchange for his eternal soul. Immediately he abuses his power to play cheap practical jokes which honestly is kinda of lame, to be honest. Give me magical powers and shit is getting super tyrannical super quickly. Faust however used his powers to play basically lame trolls in one tale he sells a horse trader an enchanted horse which turned into a pile of clay after he rides it, congrats man you really got him. Or this other time he turned invisible and slapped the pope, ok this one is actually kind of funny to be honest but still kind of dumb, after he slapped the pope the firars that were around the pope began to pray to which he then beat up the friars and set off fireworks before leaving. All in all, he was just being an arsehole for most of the years he had his powers. Faust then seduces a woman named Gretchen with the help of his magical powers. In most renditions of the story, she gives birth to his illegitimate child and ends up drowning the child, she is then sentenced to death for the murder but because of her innocence, she still makes it to heaven, which I can kind of understand she could probably get off saying that she was under duress or something. Faust however nearing the end of his contract becomes more and more corrupted and eventually when the term ends he is dragged to hell. There are some other versions where he's saved by some bullshit but not on this channel here we believe in accountability and continuity. Our second deal with the devil will be the tale of Pope Sylvester the second. It begins with him traveling to Spain in search of knowledge of mathematics astrology and astronomy. He was rumored to have met up with a Saracen philosopher at the time who taught him the dark arts. he wasn’t taught everything though as the Saracen had a secret book with all dark arts knowledge that he kept from Gerbert, yea by the way the pope guys real name was Gerbert lol. So Gerbert devised a plan to get the Saracen drunk and let him sleep with his daughter in order to steal it while he was sleeping which worked but, it seems a bit weird to pimp your daughter out just for a book of spells but he apparently used it to ascend to the papacy so I guess it was worth it? He then apparently made a bronze head that was possessed by a demon and would answer his questions with a yes or no and it told him that if he ever read mass in Jerusalem the devil would come for him. He then cancelled his trips to Jerusalem and when one time he read a mass at a church in Rome named the holy cross of Jerusalem the devil apparently pulled out his eyes and gave them to demons to play with. Im guess the devil is a little mad at him because apparently in another version of his story, he played dice with the devil for the papacy and won. Shortly after the mass he became ill and was dying he then asked his cardinals to cut his body up and scatter it across the city. That’s not all as because of a mistranslation of his tomb people believe that you can hear his bones rattling just before the death of a pope, so just imagine being Pope Sylvester in hell If he actually did deal with the devil but every 70 years or so you just start shucking and jiving randomly because another pope is about to die. Guiseppe Tartini is our final man who made a deal with the devil (supposedly). He was an Italian composer who composed over 100 different pieces for the violin however his most famous body of work was

There's one story from Poland about one such deal. Pan (Sir or Mr) Twardowski made a deal with the devil with the condition being that if he ever visits Rome, the devil will come to claim his soul. Pan Twardowski accepted the deal gladly, thinking that since he's not planning on ever going to Rome the soul will be his to keep. As such with the magical powers he acquired he served as a court alchemist to the king. One day he was travelling, he had to stop at an inn. Inside that inn he was surprised to see the devil. Turns out that the devil built this inn and named it "Rome", thus fulfilling the condition. The devil started to drag his soul to hell as Twardowski started praying to Holy Mary for mercy. She granted it, but because he was so deep already, the force thrust him back so high he landed on the moon where he stays to this day.

My favorite story is of the Codex Gigas. Also known as the Devil's Bible, it was written by Herman the Recluse. Herman had broke his monastic vows, and was thereby sentenced to be walled up alive. To get out of his punishment, vowed to create, in one night, a book that glorified the monastery and contained all the knowledge of mankind, to which the monastery agreed, knowing such a task to be impossible. Halfway through the night, Herman became frantic, and called upon the devil/Lucifer, to help him. In doing so, the Codex Gigas was created. A book that contained the bible, sciences, and magical inscription and rituals. Its said, that historians who have studied the book, noticed based on the handwriting within that it was done by only one person, and that it was done without any breaks, or so they say. Tho, the Codex Gigas is real, and is stored on display at the National Library of Sweden, for the public to view. Edit: also of note, out of the 320 pages of the book, 12 were removed... I wonder what those 12 pages contained...

In Faust it’s not the devil it is a devil or demon, named Mephistos. He is said to be the real deal and actually kinda liked by god in demon standard. In the end the moral is that Faust did all the bad stuff out of own decision.

funnily enough there was another Italian prodigy violinist that emerged just a few years after Tartini's death, who was titled as the "Devils Violinist" named Niccolò Paganini. This name was given to him due to again, the excellency of his experties with the instrument and in conjunction of his odd appearance (possible genetic deformities). Once he learned of the conspiracies of himself, instead of getting upset, he began to reinforce it by frequently dancing and squirming during concerts all the while playing extremely complicated songs often without music sheets, as a form of marketing for himself. He later became a gambling, alcoholic and prostitution addict all the more to feed the conspiracies at the time and because of this at his death he had the Church deneid his body a Catholic burial. I find funny how Paganini is to this day remembered as the "Devils Violinist", despite the title clearly being a inspiration from Giuseppe Tartini and his "Devil thrill" who came before him.

@@mastersystemknuckles8893 there is no direct cause, but there are several instances when the devil tries to make deals with people, he even tries to get Jesus to make a deal, the story goes that satan told Jesus, that he would be able to rule all of the world, and all he had to do was bow down and worship satan. (Essentially selling his soul) the way we believe it is the only way to get to heaven is through Jesus, and making deals with the devil would go against this Essentially there is no dealings with the devil where you come out on top in the end Sorry for the long reply, I’m trying to type this fast while putting as much info into as I can, let me know if you have more questions

Even most Christians think that you can abort the result of rape, which this would have been. But yes, abortion laws came out of protection for women who were being forced to have an abortion, especially prostitutes. It wasn't until recently that abortion became morally/legally repugnant. Considering my source is an encyclopedia from the 1880s, and it has no mention of modern anti-abortion thinking, my guess would be it came about during the Third Great Awakening, alongside the Temperance movement. Though it could also have been more a response to the eugenics movement of the late 19th and early 20th century, which still has influence on a lot of modern science.
