Dealing with diesel on a wet motorcycle lesson

Tips on how to deal with diesel safely when out on a motorcycle on a wet day.

Hi! I passed my mod2 yesterday with zero faults and I put a lot of that down to all the videos that you have posted on your channel. Thanks a lot!

Great news, well done. It also reflects your ability and determination to pass by doing your research! Thanks for letting me know and happy riding 😊

I cannot thank you enough Leanne, today it was -3 in frozen Scotland rising to a balmy 1 Celsius, Roo passed his Mod2 with two minors! Yay! The lesson before was an absolute nightmare, a nothing was going right, I don't know what happens, its not an isolated phenomena, other people experience the same thing, perhaps its nerves, I cannot say, either way your dulcet tones helped me no end, mirror, signal, lifesaver and position! If some weirdo wizzes past you in Nottingham with wine and flowers you know its me trying to find you :) your fan Roo.

Ahhhh brilliant news! Well done and you're most welcome. It was very cold here too today, the snow had our student's tests cancelled by the examiner. Clearly we are not as hardy as you true Northerners 😉🤣. Come on down 💐🍾 🤣. Thank you for the lovely message ☺️

I'd like to see some rules imposed to stop this getting spilled on the road, like tall fuel fillers on vans and lorries that won't eject it all if it's loose etc. really does my head in😂👍😎

@techtinkerin My apologies, I hadn't read the comments before I posted. I couldn't agree more.

Bus routes are always the worst, do whatever you can to avoid diesel spillages. :)

Excellent advice, I can’t believe you’re only a learner as that’s what’s showing on your vehicle.

Thanks. 😂 There are no laws against showing an L plate.

I can't quite believe that we are in 2024 and legislation and or technology isn't in place to prevent this if I'm honest. Good tip about 'smelling' diesel, I often smell it before / at the same time, I see it.

I hit diesel in December, I applied the brake to stop for a red signal. My rear wheel locked amd I blew through a red. I kept the bike vertical by virtue of it being a straight.. what a scary thing for a learner to have to deal with.

Diesel and oil on the roads seems to be becoming more and more of a thing where I live (Plymouth). I hit some on a manhole cover with my rear wheel recently and almost became a statistic. You'd think with the cost of fuel, people may become a bit more aware of the leaks wherever they park their vehicles

I'm kind of curious Leanne re. @HepcatHarley's comment about bus routes being the worst. If a rider 'on test' avoided a bus lane that was 'available' to use because of diesel how that would be percieved? Similarly, if a rider took an outside lane when an inside lane was available but had diesel spillage?? (I'm assuming you can't communicate to the examiner while on your test your reasons for doing this)

Hello 👋, any rider avoiding a bad surface for whatever reason so long as it is age to do what they choose to will not be penalised by the examiner. They are human after all and would probably do the same as the sensible student avoiding the danger 😉🤣

less and less diesel vehicles on the road but it doesn't seem to reduce this.

@Chris-mn7yy There are some 'electric' vans starting to appear for shorter mileages, I think the main culprits are trucks, buses and vans, which are still predominantly diesel from what I see (at least in the UK) YMMV
