I live on Lake Lanier and we have the same discussions about "cheaper" fuel at the land gas pump. Most folks who have used the ethanol lace fuel have had very expensive boat engine repairs. I use the $4.99/gal fuel on the lake with 94 octane and I have 2900 hours on my boat and neither engine or the generator (3800 hours) have had any issues. I check compression and do oil analysis every spring. That "expensive" fuel will pay future dividends.

I just drove my truck from California to Buford to get it Dealer proof. I towed my travel trailer there as well, I wanted to see what difference it would make getting the dealer proof done. It was night and day, the truck tow way better and smoother specially now with the new tuning modes. Before going up a small hills it would struggle and downshifted. Now it just cruises up hills no sweat. To bad I didn't get to meet Bill when I was there as he was out of town enjoying Mardi Gra in new Orleans. All I got to say is that I am really happy the way the truck runs now and the service. I will be taking a trip to Alaska in the summer and I am confident the truck will do great. Keep up the good work Bill and shout out to Scott. :-)

The Gooch Thanks, my friend. This is not just about Ford. It just seems like everything is upside down these days and people have their priorities all mixed up. And in that, this thing with Ford and the power/torque wars was just one example. The F-150 with an ecoboost engine is another ridiculous embodiment of this idea (throw numbers at people's faces and get them attracted, while distracting them from the actual concerns they should be having when making a selection).

+mardamek I owned an 83 6.9 F-250 that i absolutely loved as well as an 88 7.3 f-250 that was also a heart warmer. But then Ford introduced the diesels with computer injected engines and it went downhill from there. You take the simplicity of a diesel and put in computer controlled this and that, you have just taken away the reason of owning a diesel. You get worse mileage, you have to TUNE a diesel (HUH? I tune gas cars not diesels) If my older trucks were not running properly it could only be ONE thing and that is the fuel/injection system as there is nothing else. Not only that but here in Pennsylvania diesel could cost upwards of an extra dollar per gallon over gas prices. Just not worth all the extra hassle and unreliability.

  • @mardamek

    @mardamek

    8 жыл бұрын

mark hilken Unfortunately, my friend, I have to tell you that the price of diesel costs extra over gasoline price everywhere in the country, not just Pennsylvania. It is just an old artificial thing imposed by the oil companies for preventing people from buying diesel powered cars. It's all about preventing efficient technologies from gaining popularity to continue making a buck. Same thing can be seen with electric cars and their progress.

I've had slightly leaking stc fittings be baffled by the turbo during a air leak test, so I remove it, plus it makes it easier to remove Ipr and hp pump to replace stc fitting.on some trucks I recommend replacing dummy plugs and stand pipes to the latest updated versions if not equipped already because I have done stcs before and then had it come back a weak later cause a weak dummy plug let go but wasn't obvious during a leak test.so I recommend them too if they are older style

Bill, I appreciate all your videos. I think Ive watched almost all of them upon choosing an used 2005 stock 250. Primarily from your input I went all the way to Texas from SC to get the truck I felt comfortable with and was factory without the trouble signs allowing your preventive dealer proofing "as I can go". Where I may have missed the boat...I purchased a very popular company's aftermarker oil cooler block, minus shroud as I believe typical. As Im certain you dont care where I purchased it "CD", are you convinced enough even with proper flushing and eventual coolant filter, you would still junk it? I plan on doing an egr cooler and valve delete and was planning the oil cooler while I was in there. I havnt the know how nor capacity to run a check on the exsisting cooler unless I pull a Bill and cut it in half?? Your thoughs would be appreciated if you get to this. In addition, instead of the griffin tuner I got the SCT 1505p, which Ive been very impressed with a couple of the canned tunes I think may be too aggressive with stock head studs and gaskets but I purchased primarily for the outstanding diagnostic monotoring in real time. Do you have any experience with these modules? again, many thanks for the most valuable information.

Don't even get me started on coolant turning into mud. The idiot previous owner of my VW mixed two incompatible coolants in it. I ended up replacing the thermostat and thermostat housing, the radiator, the heater core, all of the hoses, and the oil cooler, along with flushing out the block. Keep up the good videos. When I get my first truck (gotta save up a bit more) I plan on taking a road trip and getting it dealer proofed, as a part of my personal policy to avoid the stealership like the plague.

That is more material to help hold all that cylinder pressure in that you guys make with all that tuning. The latest gaskets offered are almost identical, whereas before the older Black Onyx gaskets weighed a bit more than now and had one less layer.

Bill, ever thought about an EGR delete system that puts solid blocking plates between the EGR and the ports, but leave the EGR coolers in place? This way you retain the stock look (and any attachment points, if there are any tot he EGR) but get rid of functionality. It also seems cheaper than welding them shut and would allow you to revert to stock if need be. Maybe, machine the ends of the coolers so that the blocking plate fits and you dont need longer bolts??? Ever done this?

Did you manually check the mileage or rely on the trip-o-meter on the upper console? Tuning will throw the meter way off.

I love videos, such as this one, that are educational. You get to advertise your business and the people that are just here educational purposes get a little bit more information to add to their catalogue of knowledge. I'm sticking with catalogue and not catalog.

Hey Bill, I just picked up a very lightly used 08 6.4 around 1500-2000 rpm in higher gear range, I get a very slight barely noticeable vibration through the break pedal and too a lesser extent the accelerater. Any ideas?

I just thought I wanted a 6.4 lol I'll keep the trusty 7.3 210k miles and never had any major issues, most expensive thing replaced was a water pump. But as with any diesel maintaince is key to making an engine last.

My 6.4 with full delete and egr delete has been awesome. Its the shitty wire quality, bad tcm, abs components that burst, bad factory programming that get you. Having a cold air intake is also a bad idea below 40 degrees, truck hates it

Bill, for those of us who wrench on our own vehicle and don't live near you. Could you do a video centering on how the fluid bypass is done. Is there a specific point on the heads you are tapping in to the water jacket at? What size lines are you running. I understand you are a business so you may not want to share the specifics, but I would like to do this on my truck if you are able to share. thanks again for all the great info you provide.

That's what my thought was also a little preventative maintenance goes a long way. one more question if you have the time, regarding timeing again. For the most part the only time the truck ever advances is when the TC is locked up....the other time is at Idol, its 10.5 degrees advanced. Is this normal or something i should be aware of and take caution of how much its at idol, Thank you again for everything bill. Im going to Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and we are learning these things

It means that you are pushing excessive fuel. Put some NOS to it and turn that smoke into forward motion. It will be fun until something gets hurt.

Hey bill? My question is if I shut off the Egr Valve with my tuner , can i still have my stock egr cooler on it, even tho the ends aint cap off and welded? I have a Bulletproofdiesel egr cooler on it as we speak. Or is required to have ends shut close in order to shut off the egr valve with the tuner? Thanks bill!

I live in Pittsburgh so i would imagine a little more hilly than Georgia but I get 15/16 around town and 18-20 on the highway. Went on an atv trip in july, ran the 300 tune and got 27mpg with my quad and equipment in the bed! She's a strong girl.

To do this procedure correctly you really need the heads off the truck. We have a special jig to do it with so there is no room for error.

I have several customers who are dealers that send me beautiful 150-200k mile 03-07 trucks that they bought at local auctions for $3000-8000. They spend $6000 with me and now they have a good used truck they can sell with a TWO YEAR WARRANTY and make $2000-$3000. WIN-WIN for every body except the guy who traded it for pennies.

Clifton.im not sure what ur concern is but it sounds like from your list of parts that's it sounds like they might be shot gunning your issue (flat rate tech) it's strange that they want to do dummy plugs stand pipes ipr and if I'm correct the fitting kit is the stc fitting.might as well recommend the hp pump too.sounds to me like he's guessing, and not doing an air leak test to properly diagnose.but still charging you for the diag. I personally like to remove turbo during an air leak test .
