My husband’s grandparents were in Philippines. His grandfather was in Bataan March meanwhile his grandmother with her family as missionary were taken prisoner. She was pregnant. My mother in law was born in a Japanese prison camp. When they made it back to the USA grandfather 6’2” weighed less than 70 pounds. He suffered ptsd until his death in late 1970’s.

One thing that always drives me crazy is how people say "bataan". I live in the Philippines and have visited Mt. Samat learned it's pronounced Bata-on. Just a footnote.

I knew two men who were on the march. One ended up as slave labor in Japan and hated everything Japanese. I asked the other how he managed to survive the march. He said "I don't know, I was eighteen."

One of my Grandfather was included in the death March He was hispanic, his outlook was different when he noticed that the japanese guards are spread so thin. He slipped down the road to a nearby creek and thats how he escaped the death march. I dont know why some of his fellow soldiers chose to walk the death march. He managed to evade the Japanese by posing as a spanish until he united with the resistance in the mountains.

And the thing that pissed me off the most is MacArthur got the MOH for being a idiot

Yet filipinos are the most forgiving people. Truly, we do not even have any signs of grudge against these nations who made blood flow like streams of water in the Philippine soil.

You need to focus on the ACCURACY of the photos depicting these brave Soldiers. Most of these photo props are not correct.

Slight correction. When US paid Spaniards or so called US bought Philippines from Spaniards, not completely true. Spaniards were loosing the battle against the Filipinos without any support from US. But US took advantage the opportunity and made a deal with Spain in Spain. Of course Philippines were not aware and they could have had their Independence then if they had beaten the Spaniards. It was a win win for Spain because they get some money from US and save face from getting their you know what kicked so hard that they sailed back home.

His facts are off
