I used to go here as a kid. I now avoid it at all costs because it makes me just feel horrible and empty. Last time i was there, probably early 2019, there was even less than shown in this video. There was no music playing and little lights on despite it still being open to the public.

No thanks. I've worked jobs in both extremes... dealing with nobody, and dealing with crowds. I'm generally pretty introverted so I thought I'd enjoy emptiness... but it gets SUPER boring and mentally draining after a while. When I left that job that dealt with nobody I CRAVED interaction with strangers like crazy.

Within an hour from my place theres a mall thats packed with thousands of shoppers daily and one that's lucky to get 50 in a day (that one had to renovate into a strip mall as a cost-effective measure that still hasn't payed off). Update: December 12, 2022 - As of December of 2022, the Coventry Mall is pretty much closed and by the end of the year, the only remaining food court establishments (Corrado's and Penn Steaks) - ironically, the original two to open in the mall in the mid/late 80's - will be forced to relocate and move out. The interior of the mall is set to house storage units and the rest of the mall will be transformed into the newly-branded "Shoppes at Coventry", aiming to make the Coventry Mall a new strip-mall of sorts. Pearle Vision, a salon/nail spa, and an Asian spa center are the only indoor tenants that still remain (that I know of) which aren't anchor stores. Boscov's mall entrance has been completely walled off with glass, as well as the former Sears' (which is just a large white wall). The TGI Friday's has closed and was replaced by a new restaurant called Big Phil's, which apparently has really impressed the locals so far. My friend and I walked the mall the week before Thanksgiving back in November and seeing the mall completely devoid of life was really saddening, as both of us had grown up with the mall, even in its rougher years. 2018 and 2019 looked like they would offer the mall an very real opportunity to make a stunning rebound but unfortunately the COVID pandemic pretty much doomed the Coventry Mall for good. I'm honestly surprised the mall lasted this long, even with the tough competition of the Philadelphia Premium Outlets opening around 10 years ago now just a few miles down 422. The Coventry Mall, as we know it, is done. Let's see what the new Shoppes at Coventry have to offer.

Where I'm from I like to have different styles vs wearing the same stuff other ppl went and got from the mall. Which is why i dont wear Jordan's that are released to malls or retail stores, I like rocking the retros that are hard to get #stockx; also if u guys read the description it'll tell u how the product fits and suggest you go a size up. Not against going inside a mall or retail store I just can't deal long lines and sold out items on the first day, thus I like to have a better variety soooooooo.

This video got me emotional, so emotional. I live about 10 minutes away from this place and I used to go here all the time with my family. I remember this place having so many people here, it was the most crowded place at the time. I remember begging my mother for a quarter just to go on of those mini interactive car things as a young child. I remember coming to this mall on a weekend with my grandmother and she always bought me books. I remember there was a photo shoot at that place, it went out of business a few years ago but man, so many memories I have just from getting family pictures there. I remember begging my mom to get me chocolate from the chocolate store and luckily, to this day they are still open and I always ask my mom to get me the chocolate covered pretzels that they have there. They are the most delicious foods that I have ever tasted. Now, I mean look for yourselves, there aren’t even any places to sit down and eat any more that’s how dead this mall is. Man I miss it

When a mall is shut down then at least there's not that atmosphere of uncertainty and maybe even fear. In a truly dead mall whatever was going to happen has happened.

+Andrew Brendan - This mall reflects America's bank accounts & job prospects. It is a dead zone. Baby Boomers are trying to save for retirement. Their children cannot find a living wage job and go without Health Insurance. It is crunch time for American families and the majority are single parents trying to live on one wage. Debt has finally caught up to the average household in more ways than one. It took about 15 years for ecommerce to finally put the nail in the mall's coffin. Building up local small cities seems like the next wave, but if you have no funds you cannot participate and add to the economy.

@Dania Ruvalcaba The malls are dying here because we have Amazon.com you can buy anything there or at other online services like walmart is offering too and costco sometimes free delivery, as the technology growths in the U.S.A people spends time going to school doing research developing new things and working up to 80 hours a week on projects or you simply want to hang out with friends more and you don't want to get into the routing of going groceries shopping or buying things at stores. People in the U.S.A use mostly card so is very convenient for everyone, also if you buy something online and it wasn't what you were thinking services tend to be more efficient than Mexico and they simply return your money and take the item back or some times they even give you gift card to repair the damage of bad customer services. I will say one thing if the population doesn't step the level to the changes the companies are making you are going to be left behind and won't survive if you want to live in a first world country.

Update 2019: It's not this dead anymore. The furniture store left a few years ago and has been closed off and converted to a Gabe's. The candy stand was a part of Gertrude hawk, and there used to be a KB Toys across the way where the nail salon is now. They are under new management now and its still slow, but not nearly this bad. They have added an escape room, community center, skate shop, and more. The Deb is gone and has been for a while, it was replaced with a comic book shop. The radioshack (ofcourse) is gone, and they added a planet fitness where the F.Y.E. used to be. The pink shop next to the food court is now a vape shop, and the pretzel twister is now a Salad Society. Wayback burgers moved into where the McDonalds was, and those tables in the food court are actually a welcome upgrade from what they used to look like. The part that is ACTUALLY dead is the strip mall outside. I can't remember when that started dying out but except for a Rita's waterice, a government office, and a flooring store that took over the old superfresh, that strip mall is DEAD. The Coventry mall, however, is not anymore. Around black friday you can't find a single parking spot in the lot. What initially crippled them is when gamestop left around 2008. A lot of young people used to come to the mall for the gamestop and there used to be an arcade next to the food court too. When they left durring the recession, everything started falling apart from there. I would HIGHLY recommend going to the Penn Steak and Fries in the food court though. They have been there (and so has corrado's and the chinese place) since before I was born. The staff are incredibly friendly and they make a better cheesesteak than Pat's or Gino's

It's no question that retail was hurt and demographics shifted, so I think making changes like that sound like clever ways to keep a mall hip and viable for competition when some malls aren't able to keep up. Like with adding an escape room, it's a fresh attraction that people will definitely come to see (that there aren't many of in one area, might I add), and have to experience in person. Happy to hear it's doing better

Arif my local mall (Bellis Fair Mall in Bellingham) is just as wide, and is doing fine, though again it has a Target, Kohl’s, Old Navy and various food outlets around the mall, you could just see the list on the website, though in my opinion it could be better.

***** It's ok. Sometimes we can be really busy or slow. Our managers are laid back and don't push metrics so much. However I don't like how understaffed we are. I work in home improvement and there only 3 other people working there. They dont schedule enough people, like yesterday it was only me and 2 other HI employees. One left at 5 and the other left at 5:30, leaving me by myself for 4 hours (I worked 2pm to close yesterday, which is 9:00) I had to answer the phone, help someone buy a resin shed and another buy a lawn mower by myself, and help others buy tools. On top of that I had to close all 3 drawers and didn't actually clock out until 9:30. So yeah it's ok for the money I guess.

Wow. I grew up with this mall and even worked there before freshman year of college. I can helps little with what things use to be (in the early aughts anyway). 2:00 was dicks sporting goods, corner across from BAM was a painting and print store and next to them with the gold and marble was a shoe warehouse. 2:45 was GNC, where I worked. 3:40 that pizza place has been there FOREVER with the same staff for as long as I can remember. The highlight of my childhood was going to A&W for corn dog nuggets and sitting on these awesome raised platforms. The DEB...I did a teen model show for them once and spent 30 minutes suddenly very aware of how funny I walk. 5:40 yes it was candy, can't think of the name but they had those jawbreakers that were roughly the size of my head. Across the was was a toy store. 8:05 generic women's wear that was later used for Halloween stuff. 8:25 random house decor. 9:15 aforementioned toy store. Also when leaving what use to be Sears, on your right was Gap. And diagonally across was a jewelry store and Auntie Anne's pretzel. 9:42 behind the cast of Wall•E was Aeropostale. 9:52 Claire's I believe. 10:00 was a bank. 10:50 the facade to the right of Boscovs was a Friendlys, where the tables had a permanent layer of condensed sugar. 11:50 down the corridor to the right was an arcade in the 90s that was so disreputable, stories of it carried over into my generation. Drugs, fight, the usual suburban cliches. Well thanks for a blast from my past!

Speaking as someone who worked mall management in the 80s, I can tell you that the malls were SUPPOSED to look stark and generic. They wanted shoppers to be oblivious to the season, the weather, the time of day. It was supposed to be "controlled." The theory was, that if you didn't know the time of day or the weather outside, that you would be more inclined to just stay and continue shopping. There was no need to get home before dark, or rush home to beat the weather. Well, now, that didn't work out so well- did it?

  • @Zincink
