The Restaurant with the wood façade was a Lums, it closed in the early to mid 80s, briefly there was another restaurant there called The Golden Ram. The First closed restaurant on the left was a Pizza Inn. The Store with the cool windows (where the Art Association Gallery is towards the end of the video) was a Brooks Fashions.

Seeing that senior center in there is an awesome idea. They should turn these malls into senior villages where it's safe for them to live in apartments/condos, walk around, shop, go to the doctor, etc., all in one enclosed place. Seniors have money! Plus they're used to the mall environment.

That would be a wonderful idea but investors don't see "huge capital or profit" in Senior citizens....it would be great if we could put people 1st before capital, but it'll never happen...

Yes! Also add a daycare so the seniors could interact with children. Maybe a humane society too! Seniors could volunteer to help with both!

Whenever I'm struck by the nostalgia bug, I watch the Dead Mall series. Kind of my heralding into spring and summer. Abd speaking of ferling nostalgic, I'll never forget driving down the road and hearing the announcer on the radio saying Wards woukd officially be no more. When they mentioned that MW had been in business for over a century, it hit me like a ton of bricks. Surreal moment.

I've been to that mall many times. It's about an hour or so from me. The "new" mall on the other hill kind of killed it. Enjoying the remastered series. That automated people mover runs all of the WVU campus. It was going to be built in Pittsburgh and was called Skybus. But, that was shot down in the 70s. I think the restaurant was a Lums.

The people mover is called the PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) and operates like a horizontal elevator--small self operating cars; passengers board and push button to select their stop. CURRENTLY OUT OF SERVICE because of Covid restrictions.

The 1987 addition brought another anchor, Wheeling WV based Stone & Thomas department store! Elder-Beerman bought out privately owned Stone & Thomas, and for a time Morgantown had two E-B stores, one at each mall. Something to note that even today Mountaineer Mall is beautifully maintained, The floor and fixtures sparkle!

Morgantown doesnt have a subway but that isnt a subway its a PRT. Personal Rapid Transit. Morgantown was the test city for this tech in the 80 and they deemed it a failure. It still stands and is regulalry used by the large university here to get between the two campuses. Its esentially like a single car monorail but the cars have tires and drive along the narrow bridge structures using an algorythm. You select where you want to go like an elevator and it sends a car to you.

I have been wondering about those cool wood windows since you did the Frederick Towne Mall. My childhood Mall. Did you ever confirm if they were Brooks? Could it be Paul Harris? I believe Paul Harris was the first store in that location of the Frederick Towne Mall and only one of two at that location. I could not find a picture of a Paul Harris store that looks like that however I found an article that said Paul Harris was able to cut its $150,000 construction cost in half by trimming such elements as hardwood floors, paneled-wood treatments when opening new stores. Could this solve the mystery? Thanks for the great Videos!
