You and Skateboarder Rick McCrank should get together to do abandoned places things. He had a unique take on things and would be good to pair you both with what you know too. He's stopped some time ago but would be great if you two could put a show together like he had on TV.

I've been a resident of citrus county for 17 years. Thats the county that Crystal River is in. They decorate for Halloween because they do trick or treating in there. Also the food court seems so big because they used to have a carousel and other entertainment in the center where the tables are. The seafoam green chairs and pink tables were from a beach theme they used to have. And the tent top is because when they first built it they were going to build a second floor, which is also another reason the food court is so big, so that they could put escalators there. It's so sad to see a once flourishing mall turn into this. Really sucks for us locals. Nicky B's in the food court has the best hot dogs and fried ice cream in town if anyone visits. 😊

Thanks for posting this. The Warren Mall is the mall that I grew up with (it opened just after I started kindergarten). My family shopped there, my friends and I met there for movies and the arcade (Aladdin's Castle), my mom worked in the Kmart, and I even worked in the EB Games for a bit (which was never cool and hip). It was the shiniest, newest, and most futuristic building in town throughout the 80s, and going there during Warren's harsh winters was always a delight. During the 80s, New York state (about 10 miles away) had sales tax on food and clothing, while Pennsylvania did not, making this one of the busiest places in the area (it was nearly impossible to find parking there regularly, if you can believe it). The closed "pizza place" you went in was originally the Orange Julius, which was later converted into a small restaurant, which also went out of business (they had really good, affordable mushroom swiss burgers there). The large restaurant with the bars was a Ponderosa Steak House with a "Grand Buffet" (you really don't want to go into that space -- it's really greasy and full of broken glass), and I was there a few years ago helping a friend film a video. The store that you went in with the broken ceiling tiles was originally a Fashion Bug, which was expanded and then became a Goodwill when FB went out of business. The office next to the Bon Ton was originally a Northwest Savings Bank, which eventually moved down the hall near the entrance before being closed. Incidentally, the pizza you smelled was from the Napoli Pizza restaurant, which opened with the mall and has remained a staple there even to this day (it's considered by many in the town to be the best pizza place), although it has since relocated. I'm a little bit bummed out that you missed the steel and copper sculpted wall mural of the oil wells at the entrance. Oh, by the way, those plants in all the planters in the mall were all real, alive, and original, which I was always a little bit taken aback by. It sickens me that it became a tax shelter for some pretty seedy individuals before falling into the state of disrepair that it was in while you were filming. They have since started transitioning the mall into a shopping plaza and most of the store units that you visited have since been gutted, torn down, or converted to accommodate larger stores (although it does have a few more stores now, but it is no longer a "mall"). I'm a little sad that I couldn't get my hands on some of the EB Games fixtures before it closed. Sad ghosts of retail past.

That place with the buffet table and prison like bars really reminded me of a Sizzler. Idk if you guys have that in America but the salad bar looks identical. Kinda unsettling since a lot of Sizzler restaurants have been closing due to losses. It's my favourite restaurant though so I really hope.it doesn't die out one day.

Ah, memories. I grew up in nearby Lakewood, NY and my family frequented the Warren Mall in the 1980's. Yes, of course, my dad was all about the tax free shopping. I loved our little day trips to Warren. We also used to shop downtown back when there were still some descent stores down there. And we always had lunch at the Plaza restaurant, which I believe is still there.

@@ARCWuLF Thanks for sharing. My wife and son and I tried stopping at the Plaza about two years ago after a day at Kinzua. It was closed that day but looked operational, so thanks for confirming it is still open I will have to get down there again. I hadn't been in Warren in probably 20 years, but we had a nice time driving around seeing how much things changed, and what was still the same. We even stopped at one of the city parks for my son to play on the playground and I was impressed at how well kept up it was. Everything around Jamestown is mostly in shambles now, and we rarely even go back there anymore except for a quick trip to see my wife's dad. It's rare for me to get down that way much anymore, but it was a fun trip down memory lane.

@@whatshisname3304 I suspect it is a commentary on the trend in youtube channels where the content creators get further and further away from the original content that drew viewers ti begin with. As it gets harder and harder to make a nickel the creators try to expand their subject matter in an effort to expand their viewer base, and of course, the original viewers who liked the channel how it was just get left behind, abd it's like the content creators are oblivious of it all, in their desperate search for more viewers, higher numbers. I may be misinterpreting this comment, but I think I'm pretty close. Over 200 people have liked the comment, so while I do think it was said as a joke, there was a legitimate message there that resonates with a lot of people.

Kimberly I was in that mall back in October of 1990 when it opened. I turned 18 that month. I’m 46 now. I can’t believe the decline of the Crystal River Mall. I haven’t been in that Mall in over 25 years. Last time I was in that mall was in 1993. At the time I lived in Homosassa Springs just 7 miles away.

2022 update for the crystal river mall - it has been recently purchased and is being demolished sometime around march 2023, it will now serve for low income housing/apartments and a rv park will rest across from where the mall is, there was talk about stores going in as well and rural king is staying (they’re building a wall around rural king to separate). It is still up in the air what will actually go where the mall stood.

Just some food for thought......When you all go exploring dead malls and the gates are open like in this video just carry a clipboard with some paper on it and a tape measure. People passing by will just think your going to do something in that space and 9 times outta 10 leave you alone......cause everyone knows that carrying a clip board makes you an official smart person who automatically knows what their doing :-P

My first job was at Gamestop (got hired in 2010, for reference) and the store was the busiest in our district and yet it still had EB carpet and the gaudy yellow cash wrap. Corporate refused us a remodel until the year after I left. There was a Babbage's downstairs in the same mall so close we could lean over the railing of the atrium and ask if they had a game in stock. Across the street from the mall was another Gamestop on a strip mall. 15 minutes away, they built a fourth gamestop that was the size of the first three combined. It was ridiculous. But only my store had the damn yellow cash wrap and nasty 30 year old carpet.

The Warren Mall is actually about twenty minutes away from where I live. The mall has been nearly dead for as long as I can remember. I remember when there used to be a Radio Shack, Goodwill, Ponderosa, Kmart, and a Big Lots. They actually lost Kmart and Big Lots around the same time. The current owners of the mall seem to be taking steps in bringing in new businesses. A sport store and an Ollies Bargain Outlet are going into the mall. Last year, a Dunham’s Sports went into Big Lots’ vacant space.

Would be fascinating to dig deeper as to why they are doing so well and not “dead”. What makes those malls different than so many of these dead malls? Etc. Would be an interesting side series perhaps.
