    This reminds me of when I worked with a plumber in a small college town in Washington State 48 years ago, I was 21. He had an old blue chevy pickup with a wooden cover with side cabinets in the bed. When you lifted the rear hatch the whole bed was a huge mound of plumbing parts, pieces, and tools, that looked like a junk pile. It had that smell. He knew where every item was and spent little time finding what was needed on service calls. The springs on the truck were shot so it sagged in the rear from the load. His name was Homer, he taught me many things that I have used thru my life ......I miss him.

    The sound of that Honda was actually one of the things that drew me in when I found this channel 2½ years ago. Especially the sound that it makes when it gets loaded down running the high pressure pump right after opening the water valve. It lived a hard life. We the viewers got to follow along for a part of it. I'm looking forward to seeing whatever comes after it :)

  • @gorak9000

    The hard life it lived was because of not enough oil changes. Oil looks pretty milky (has water in it) in the shots of the engine disassembled at the end. Water does not lubricate engine parts well. With better maintenance, it would've gone WAY longer

    @@daddysails8926 Part of what he shows at the end is definitely the gearbox from the pressure pump - in pressure pumps, the high pressure seals fail eventually and water from the water side makes it way into the pump crankcase and mixes with the oil. If you catch it early, you can just replace the high pressure seals, but if the bearings have been run with water in the oil for a while, it's probably not economical to repair - just better to replace the whole pump. But he definitely also shows the engine apart, and you can see the crankshaft and both rods - the oil in there looks better, but not great either.

    800 hours? Any commercial grade engine should go well over 2,000 hours and with good service might go 4,000 hours between overhauls. An oil change every 200 hours would have gone a long way toward that!

  • @JechtAruon

    @@rupe53 I was thinking the same thing that it should of lasted longer and seeing how jammed in there it was I doubt any servicing went in to the engine. My dad had a B&S engined push mower from the 70s that lasted well over 15 years and all he did was change the oil every year. What did the engine in was he mowing around a tree and hit a metal rod he didn’t see and shattered the crank. He should have a pullout sled so he can service it and get more life outta it.

  • @rupe53

    @@JechtAruon ... I just retired from servicing generators and for the vast majority of air-cooled engines you can use a pump to get the oil out (every 100-200 hours) and a small catch tray to grab those few ounces the filter spills. Other than that, a set of plugs and a valve adjustment every 300 - 400 hours should so it.

  • @DiustheZ

    @@rupe53 I know what you're saying but i use to sell various machines with Honda engines and heard this directly from the Honda reps themselves, They're not designed to break down after 800 hours but they're designed to last a minimum of 800 hours. Of course service etc. will prolong the life of a machine if you take good care of it then it will last a very long time. They're not designed to be run 24/7 you can of course get other engines that are designed for prolonged periods of time. Machines like jetters are very rough on engines because they stop and start all the time and the transition is almost instantaneous so the engine has to switch between idle and working 80-100% very quickly which is how you shatter the various gears like was shown in the pictures.

  • @rupe53

    @rupe53

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@DiustheZ ... yes, some people can be hard on the equipment... and keeping the oil full (with no changes) will probably make it last for 800 hours. (although very tired by then) It's amazing what a little maintenance will do, along with letting it warm up at idle for 15 seconds and cool down for a minute at idle after a hard run. In that case you can get thousands of hours out of an engine like this.

    @@lynch6642 Also at the end, it looks like it was the gearbox between the engine and the pump that failed, and that oil looks pretty milky, like it has a bunch of water mixed into it. And at 26:59 that looks like the engine crankshaft (large pistons) and the oil looks milky there too. Milkshake oil = bad. I just replaced the pump on my pressure washer in the spring of this year - one of the seals on the pump plungers went, and water was getting into the crankcase of the pump, and the oil was all milky (and leaking out). When I took it apart, the ceramic plunger was actually cracked, so not economical to repair - I just got a whole new pump. Of course mine is only a 2000psi 3gpm little toy compared to this behemoth, but the pump was only about $300. The old Honda 5.5HP engine still has TONS of life left in it.

    I think that's an air cooled motor that uses blades on the flywheel to blow air over the heads (You can see the angled fins on the old motor at the beginning).. By placing the face of it against something you are going to restrict it's cooling.
