My favorite instance of the chat filter being hot garbage, is when Otzdarva once said in endgame chat "Hey dude, they're on Skype", with Skype getting censored. He then says "drugs" instead which goes through just fine. Classic.

I could swear the chat filter censors words randomly. A friend of mine wrote "Hey man, that was a good game." or something, and it censored EVERYTHING except for one word (I believe it was "was"). Yet people can write the most unhinged ass insults and slurs without getting censored.

Here's a sleeper controversy - There was a period in ye olden days (2016-2018) where in-game bugs were rampant. One bug was known as the 'hag jump', where if you dropped onto a hag trap from an elevated spot, it sent your character flying. A popular youtuber at the time named Noob3 decided to make a demonstration video in a private match with his friends and post it online. Apparently one of the DBD devs was a fan of his (there were barely any DBD content streamers at the time) and saw the video. They were apparently not happy with this video and Noob3 was immediately banned from the game and made an example of for people who "use exploits to gain a competitive advantage". Noob3 lost all of this legacy skins, DLC etc.. The fanbase was in an uproar, not just because their favorite streamer was banned, but because it was so obviously targeted, as there were videos from other popular streamers at the time doing the exact same glitch on public servers. There were even channels who straight up had tutorials on hacking the game with 100k+ views, but the simple in-game bug was the only glitch that made the devs do something.

The only bit of hope is that the Hellraiser rights went back to the original creator a bit after the contract was struck with the old right holders. When the Hellraiser license for DBD runs out, I assume they'll have to make that agreement with the original creator. If he's not a fan of the NFT stuff, then there’s a chance he can just take that out of the contract. 🤞

I'm pretty sure they meant: because we don't keep logs of your skins because they're save based we can't re-apply them. We can keep track of other collectibles because they're server based. Essentially they were so worried about people gaming the system they chose to just screw over those that lost their progress

I’ll never understand why bhvr dropped the ball so hard on haddie’s release. Like you said, it’s a cycle. Popular characters get more cosmetics, which attracts more players, but Haddie was a mess from the start. from her polarizing visual design and lack of decent cosmetics all the way down to her being a different and much lamer version of the Haddie we’d been reading about in the tomes (for literally no reason, too). I can’t help but wonder if there was some serious miscommunication between design teams, or something. Or maybe the team who started her quit and she got transferred to a new one. Idk. Either way, makes me sad.

How do you drop the ball on your own original chapter so hard that it’s borderline abandoned by the time of its release? Haddie’s cosmetic appearance, lore, and perks were all garbage, which makes no sense considering the amount of time they spent building her character in the tomes. Then they basically retconned all the tome lore by making it so the Haddie added to the game was from a different universe, one where she didn’t do any of the cool shit the tomes said she did. Everything about her implementation was a massive blunder. They could’ve made her look cool, stuck to her tome lore, and given her lore accurate perks that actually added something to the game.

@@BeekeeperSlay it is objectively a terrible map for dbd. If you're talking about a faithful recreation then yes, it's great at that. But it's not a good DBD map.

You're missing quite a few key controversies from the distant past. First there was the streamer de-ranking controversy. This is where Jendenise, one of the largest dbd streamers at the time that even has a cosmetic in the game, was caught down ranking off stream so she'd have even easier games on stream. It sparked debate amongst the community and ohtofu and several other large content creators hosted a podcast where they discussed the topic with the offender herself. Then there was old legion. He was so broken that people would just dc when they figured out it was him. There's also the various streamer feuds over the years, notably scottjund and tru3ta1ent. That one ended in several people being removed from the fog whisperers program.

If you the devs said it like this, "Hey we're currently working on this and we get your frustration, but until the fix is here try playing some other games. We want our players to have fun even if it means them temporarily moving onto something else. We hope to see you soon." Instead the way he phrased it, and yes he did realize his mistake and yes the community did flame him too hard for this, was this, "hmm try playing another game?" Which comes across as saying, "You're the issue just play a different game and stop annoying us." Again not at ALL what he meant but was how it came across.

The pyramidhead one reminded me of the guy who played him in the movie. His apron had no back to it so a lot of the time his butt was just out and free. As it should be

Ill be honest, I'm definitely okay with limited time skins as long as they come back every year, it makes event skins feel more special and valuable, which they definitely should.

my biggest issue is that there were event skins that had been in the game for years just randomly becoming event only skins. like Fengs orange new year dress was in the store 24/7 for like 3 whole years or so, and now its just limited time for no reason. I think they should have just released new skins as limited time, and only for like a year and then its permanent and then the next set is limited for a year. I think that'd be more fair

I'm a killer main and I really dislike how killer skins are for the survivors more than the killer. Like yes I do wanna look cool to other people BUT when I get a skin it's for me first other people second. I know there isn't a real good way to fix this but maybe like killers can emote once or twice in a match and the emote lets you see your killer skin or smth. Again anything to try and "solve" this "issue" would be abused by sweat lord but it would still be nice to actually see my skin while playing without having to bring a mori.

10:58 There was lots of confusion about BHVR’s exact role in the Pinhead NFT. After denying the rumors, BHVR later admitted that they had designed an NFT that a third party was selling. They were able to get away with this because the NFTs were never a part of the game. Very soon afterwards, streamers were being SWATed bc DBD was leaking IP addresses.

My theory for stranger things licensing is that they may possibly add vecna at some given point, they may just want to finish ST story before doing but idk its just a guess

On the events skin, I feel like if they want to make it like limited to events so it feels special make it seasonal, where it will be unvaulted to the store during those events, and for the cosmetics that can be obtain via events, goes to the store costing Iri Shards. That way it retains limited to event, but since it's seasonal everyone can get it, and for those who don't have Iri Shards and can't wait for another whole year for it needs to spend money for it. BHVR gets money still, players gets the beautiful skin available only during that time.

I remember the Legion trailer that was very misleading and the killer itself very obnoxious to play against. There were also the early states of the MMR system who was all over the place. The Nemesis dlc who completely broke the framerate on console. The comparaison with a hockey game.

I was one of those unfortunate one's who got their save file completely wiped due to the glitch. This was about 1500 hours of progress, I had legacy skins as well and they of course never returned them, they however gave me 69 million bloodpoints for compensation since I had also P3-50'd every single character in the game. I still continued to play the game after that and reached 7500 hours in 2022 but have since then kind of stopped playing the game except when I hop in every once in a while when there is an event happening. Would have been nice to get those legacy skins back since you had to grind a lot for them back in the day

The Skull Merchant just didn't work for me. It didn't fit into the DBD aesthetic. The Dredge is a literal embodiment of evil and looks like it. The blight is a half-melted mutant, Pyramid Head is otherworldly. The Skull Merchant looks like a rich CEO that bought a tacky mask at a flea market. Not intimidating. And to me, it made no sense.

Hawkin's Lab was my favorite level, Bubba's face masks I actually spent time unlocking, and Pyramid Head just has an amazing butt.

Tbh they say alot of things they wouldn’t do but the devs do them anyways. This game relies on skins or licensing to stay relevant and people always complain about something about a game. For example people complained about knight now look at him they dc and realize he’s not fun to go against. Like no matter what you do for this game there’s really no way of balancing it out especially with it’s mechanics. I’m really glad though I quit it though because genuinely it brought a very toxic side out of me and I didn’t like that. I just don’t like games that can’t balance or listen to the player base well especially when they take forever to balance out stuff. Edit: really people complained about a killers ass being flat lol

I remmeber the save file thing from back in the day. I logged in on day and lost literally all my progress and was confused. I was kinda pissed but I decided to email the support team, and they gave me significantly more bp than what I lost. Luckly I didn't have perstige items so it was a pretty positive experience.

It's sad that I can't have a normal game agaisnt Skull Merchant. It always devolves into a 3 gen where inevitably we all just troll until we die

Devs said yesterday on reddit that she's getting a change AND there's gonna be a new system to help against 3 gen games against anyone so hopefully it works out

I mean to be fair a normal game of Merchant IS 3 genning. But the reason why is simple, she's terrible in chase. her power is entirely designed around locking down an area of the map and protecting it. If she takes chase she most likely will lose the game because survivors with rush the gens as fast as possible. All her power does in chase is make people more inclined to leave the tile and move to the next one and repeat.

Oh yeah Her and Knight's powers are designed in a way that encourages 3 genning unfortunately

Hawkings being my first map that i ever played back in 21 sure brings back memories... its gone now and i know i wont have the same experience again

i honestly just want to mix and match cheryl outfits. i doubt it's too hard for them to program it 🙄

This was a great vid. Ive been playing since the Nemesis release and stopped just before the healing nerf was made live. This was like a walk down bad memory lane. But in a good way somehow.

With regard to Patch 4.5.0 - the HUD wasn't the only issue. The new movement felt clunky and janky, and there was also a desync issue between client and server, meaning people were literally getting bluetooth lag hits that looked fine on the killers screen. Between the movement changes, the desync hits, and the horrible HUD design was what caused the controversy and got the #RevertDBDMovement hashtag trending on Twitter at the time

What annoys me the most and it might be controversial is the fact that DBD became 4 survivors looping and distracting the killer type of game instead of working together to escape. The past few years BHVR have put so much focus on looping the killers when it comes to the survivor side that it feels stale now. Even with new content. I feel like with the emphasis on looping and distracting it feels like it was a trade of with the horror aspect. DBD is still fun to some degree but I miss the fact that killers are no longer scary. It really takes just one good survivor to loop the killer for 5 gems.

Can't forget about how killers used to be able to mori after first hook or when the hatch will spawn in

Absolutely great video! I only started after Artist was out so seeing early years DBD stuff is always wild to me... LOCAL SAVES?!!! is a new low tho.

Or they couldve just punished the literal culprits for it. There was literally less than a handful of people doing it and instead of punishing those guys to make an example out of them they punished everyone else and take away the only liscenced cosmetics that were unlockable through a special prerequisite. Classic bhvr being lazy and not just getting off their ass to punish some bad apples.

There's always those bad apples that ruin the game for everyone else when they took advantage of the skins. There's always going to be those assholes people who are going to take advantage of something and turn it into a controversy and eventually that thing gets banned. Banning never works and only makes things worse and banning something racist never works and they let it get under their skin. Need to learn to ignore it otherwise they will be continued to be chained by the shackles of racism.

I still have some of my old save files from backing up. Had a few friends who lost their legacy skins because of save file corruption. Still have my Legacy 3 Billy though.

11:32 Removes Bubba's cosmetics, Bubba players still facecamp everyone. I thought the devs said facecamping is just a strategy and they wouldn't address it.

Funny how for the last 8 years, whenever they get an opportunity to fix the game they just release 25 dollar cosmetics

God that PTB hud was just objectively bad. You want your players to spend more time looking at the game instead of the hud, splitting everything up is easily the worst thing you can do when designing a hud. You want to group relevant information together, like the state of the match, you want the gens remaining and survivor health close together to be able to quickly determine how well you're doing

i remember having custom perk icons and character portraits when save files were stored locally

I really want the cat hoodie skin for legion but when I had the money to buy it they removed it. X(

Stranger things is finally back

Definitely have to mention RPD’s infamous library/boil over issue. I’d also argue all the maps they’ve added since Midwich were controversial (Hawkins as well but it was removed so I guess it doesn’t count).

The Boil Over thing is less of a controversy and more of a design oversight

About the mori ptb, bhvr said before the ptb that they are testing it ahead of time and that it wont come to live after the ptb.

The most controversial thing they have done is not give us ALL the killers in the dating sim

I guess bhvr wants the survivors to feel a sense of “pride and accomplishment”.

4:10 The funny thing was the youtuber who owned the clips, Dat360NoScope as shown in the bottom left watermark, was a friend I used to play with at the time, it was pretty funny

I love Skull Merchant because, if you play her aggressively, she's a trap-based killer who doesn't give free headway when she plants a drone. That's something I've wanted ever since I started (Freddy doesn't really count because his stretchy arms are stronger than his old trapping ability). It's a damn shame that so many only use her to defend 3-gens instead of playing more aggressively. It's so much less fun to walk in a circle around three gens.

hot take but i miss the camera going downwards when you got downed during 4.5.0, but ik it gave some people motion sickness so it makes sense to remove it. i wish there was an option to re-add it though

You didn't experience Hawkins? My god, you have incredible luck. My life isn't the same since Stranger Things PTB when i played on this map for first time.

When mettle of man first came out, which basically gave players a free hit, I had to take a long break as killer lol. Decisive strike was also a huge issue which took years to address.

It's actually really funny seeing this after almost a year later (10 months at the time of me writing this) and some of these issues are still present. Haddie still has little to no cosmetics, and other niche survivors still don't have anything like gabriel soma, whos been out for almost a year and has less cosmetics then sable, a brand new character, the devs still make everything super fomo despite it being constantly shit on, and now they butchered the twins rework, made an ass out of themselves, and had to admit defeat and only buffed her after 2 years of "reworking" her.

13:30 i'm actually shocked an ill-received change in the PBE didn't make it to live. that doesn't always happen in other games, especially while i was playing overwatch

Opinion on the Bubba masks: I'd say bring them back and actively PUNISH the bad apples... ya know, if the license was still there. I think small easter eggs like that are amazing, but everyone shouldn't be punished because a few people are trash.

Dude im just lucky enough to have the dbd disc that has the stanger things stuff. Never got to get any cosmetics or go to the map

I stopped playing this game years ago the community is so toxic it just wasn't fun

...I didn't realize anyone was clamoring for Haddie cosmetics.

I remember the 5th year anniversary and launch of Resident Evil, PS4 and Xbox One players could barely run the game without it crashing, and even middle of the road PCs were choppy as hell. It got so bad that, IIRC, a big portion of the community tried boycotting DBD to protest the abysmal performance.

You didn't mention the Bubba controversy. It happened around last Christmas and it was speculated that Bubba will be removed from DBD just like stranger things were. People thought it would be linked to the upcoming chainsaw massacre game.

The game has been getting legitimately worse over the 8 to 10 months now. But up till then yeah it was up and down. I remember playing Hawkins a few times it was so cool. Rip stranger things this game lost some much life after this.
