I guess that Ground zero title is a huge foreshadowing to the ending, I really like the resident evil vibes with alpha team going in first than losing contact only for bravo team to go in, if that ending was ever translated into a movie or show I guess "Where is my mind by the pixies" would start playing. I wonder if we'll get a story about Alpha team & how they were able to chain up the doors.

This one actually came out years after the series started, so there were already mentions of the fate of Austin. While I'm not going to be doing a story about alpha team, I have started a series focused on soldiers during the opening days of the apocalypse, so there will be stories like this.

Ok, story, but I have 3 issues with this story. 1. They saw the doors were chained trying to keep the building sealed, and you break the window? 2. Swat guys freezing? 3. All hell breaks loose, and you don't risk life and limb to get to your family?

So with issue 1, they needed to investigate, and at that point were still pretty sure they were being pranked by the other team. 2. Swat guys are human, so freezing is entirely possible. 3. It took every ounce of fighting just to get as far as they got, so getting to the family really wasn't an option.

I'm not a fan of filler. plenty of stories out there with characters sitting around having deep conversations. not here, just chaos and mayhem!

Hey guys. Am I the only one who hits the thumbs up first thing?? Such a good series. Thanks for sharing this with us.

This was a good story, but it was sad and heart breaking. A dedicated cop risks everything trying to help, but in the end is killed anyway. The bombing of the cities would most likely be the kind of thing the government would do. Likely they would be left with no other choice, but what a betrayal for the few who had managed to survive until then, to just become "collateral damage".

yeah I'm a huge shambler fan, started writing after watching the original Dawn of the Dead way back in the day. I decided to have both because I wanted a way to sort of freeze everything in place (stuff on store shelves for example), and having runners would do that. Plus the threat of runners from freshly turned people is a huge threat. And the channel is starting to pick up steam. maybe one of these day's I'll hit 10k!

@@jamesortega8681 This was a standalone prequel to the main series that came along well after the series began. During Book 4 they reference the bombing of Austin, and I wanted to tell that story. The people in this particular story did not survive the bombing.

20 Minutes in and this is clearly a poorly written story. it is obvious that the writer has no clue how a swat (or any ) team operates or doesn't care. The opening scene has a Swat team rushing into a building full of zombies. This would have worked if they were thrown in right there and then, but that is not the case. Instead, they arrive after some traveling at a building that is barricaded from the inside, and there is no apparent emergency because the writer clearly spells out how everyone around them is going on with their daily business. Swat teams aren't the first to arrive on a scene. Usually, there will be local police, and there will be a situational officer and a lot of other emergency personnel. Given that the team takes at least twenty minutes to travel to the scene(probably much longer), this would have allowed plenty of time for other law enforcement officers to be there, too, but nobody is there. When Swat arrives their task isn't to rush into a building without any knowledge, and given that the building was barricaded, the foremost task would have been to establish control and wait for backup or someone in charge. Given that no zombies were pouring onto the streets, there was no reason for Swat to go in without any kind of situational knowledge. Then there is the odd story of the girl. She appears right at the moment a swat member wants to smash the window to open the doors. She has the keys to the door. But why? The next moment, she scoffs at the officer for thinking that the medical center is closed. It is always open! So why does she have to keys to a building that is always open? Then next, when the Swat team goes in, they girl follows them. This was the straw that broke the camel's back. If she had sneaked in, it would be understandable, but none of the team took care to check what she was doing. This would be a vital action as there is always the possibility that an outside agent is cooperating with an inside threat. So this girl could have been a danger for all they know. And what person in their right mind would go inside a building with the floor littered with blood splatters? Clearly, the writer wants to write a situation without doing any of the heavy lifting, like setting things up or doing some research, thinking on how to get people into danger without making them stupid.

GREAT BOOK BUT FIRST THEY APPEAR TO GET DEAD 💀 TOO FAST 😅
