My father tore apart my room. He stole my diary (never gave it back and read it in front of me), broke many things of mine, and took everything out of place. Every peice of clothing was scattered on the floor too. EVERY SINGLE TANGIBLE OBJECT WAS SCATTERED ACROSS THE FLOOR. My room and belongings were destroyed for nothing. I wasn't doing drugs. I was depressed. I havent spoken to him for years so maybe try talking to your teen before searching their room. Once you cross that line, you might find you cant go back.

my mom did this similar ripping everything up destorying everything nonsense. She found the anti-depressants a literal doctor gave to me. (the whole story was that my mom acted sooo supportive of everything when my doctor was putting me on medication, but the moment we got home she took everything and hid it from me saying “I’m not letting my 13 year old daughter become a drug addict from a fake little disorder you caused in your mind.” but I ended up finding them and taking them back- was not fun to watch her scream at me and throw all my things around when a literal professional gave them to me

They arent evil and need loving help! A change in mood or grades does NOT mean drugs! You need to support them emotionally not feel like a criminal for even doing drugs

Growing up my parents knee I did "drugs" but even tho they had proof they never ever went through my personal belongings. I respected them for that and that's why I have a much closer relationship with them than I did before.

I’m on the other side of that coin where I never did drugs but my mother searched my room constantly anyways and would never let me breathe. I didn’t talk to her for years. Now she’s passed away and I wonder what’s it’s like to be sad about losing your mother, because I am not. I salute your parents.

All I know is that Ive never had to lie to my mom about anything I ever did. The first time I got high from marijuana I was 12, right away I told my mother & father about my experience and they weren’t upset with me at all. They just didn’t want me to repeat my actions but who knew I would be a major pothead today lmao I’m glad my parents were not like this.

yep, besides, if their kid is doing drugs or they seem off, they need to realise they failed at parenting by letting their kid get to that point.

Two problems with this segment: 1. It snitches on teenagers hiding so much as marijuana in such places, which can lead to problems with certain types of parents, and 2. They think they’re really fixing something that they think is a major problem or one that would be the case 100% of the goddamn time, but it actually makes it worse because it gives these kids ideas of where to hide it

So, I'm 21 now, and when I was a teen, I would just hide money, my diary, and gifts for people. I still hide my diary because my mom is a narcissist that'll probably crucify me if she found it cuz I still live in her house. She doesn't want me storing alcohol in my room, but I actually have a bottle of wine hidden behind some stuff on a shelf in my closet, and that's how it's gonna be when it comes to my liquor. Hidden in my closet and in places that she'll never think to look. Having a narcissistic parent makes one better at lying, hiding things, keeping secrets, and sneaking around. I've even decided that I'll drink when she's either not around or has already gone to bed and is asleep.

This is how you lose your child's trust, and this is coming from a parent, talk to your child and never judge what they like and you'll build trust

Yeah that’s facts. My mom did something similar with me and that lack of privacy destroyed our relationship. I’m doing my best now as an adult to fix it, but it’s still difficult to put aside all the lost years I had in depression, it destroyed my high school experience
