de Havilland Beaver Plane Crash at Lake Hood (HD)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This is a video of the deHavilland beaver plane crash at Lake Hood in Anchorage AK, on June 7, 2009. My father and I were videotaping planes at Lake Hood taking off and landing when the wind kicked up and sent the Beaver taking off right at us.
The wing was less than 5 feet over our heads, and the radial engine was less than 8 feet to my left. No exaggeration!! The Slow motion at the end gives a little better look at how close it was. Everyone onboard was in pristine condition, 2 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs
For those wondering what camcorder I use it is a Canon VIXIA HF20

I've seen a lot of bad things happen in aviation, and you, sir, deserve an award for that video! Somehow, after nearly being killed, you still managed to get the majority of the crash on film!

Cameraman never dies. Seriously though, most videos end with the person pointing it at the ground and he finished it well!
UNBELEIVABLE. Your one brave soul to stay in there that long. Great video, and notice that the plane didnt even touch that fence lol.

Now that we are getting recommended these random aviation videos, I am constantly seeing AFP in the comments of almost all of them. Edit: the plane did touch the fence, GroundPound69

It did hit the fence, watch it again, you can see the fence falling just as he gets it back in view ....
Aircraft appeared overloaded for takeoff distance. Float planes have to come up on "step" (like a boat comes up on plane) before you can safely lift. This pilot showed poor judgement in his takeoff attempt.

They don't call those things de Haviltake-offs, they call them de Havillands for a reason.
GREAT job filming this! Finally a youtube cameraman that knows HOW to film! Who doesnt stop filming the SECOND something happens. You were in grave personal danger, on your back, and you still turned the camera to catch the crash!! You deserve an award from youtube for this video. Best Stunt Cameraman
Thanks for getting up so fast so we could see the crash!
He had NO airspeed...................ridiculously pilot error.

What's more, he had plenty of lake left to get it up to a decent speed.

Ridiculous Pilot ,error. Big time!
Wow ! Great video ! You stood your ground to get the video longer than I would have and I run into fires for a living !
It's amazing how clear of people the grass by the parking lot was that day. Usually, there are 20 or 30 people there filming takeoffs on the East-West Water Runway, right where the Beaver came down. Nice duck and roll of the cameraman too! You caught everything! Great job!
Great filming under the circumstances !!
Cameraman couldn't get out of the way fast enough due to giant balls dragging on the ground.

Cameraman never dies!
Dude! That is awesome footage! You and the passengers are very fortunate...thankfully.
Glad you and everyone else are okay. Really fantastic footage! Nice work.
The fact that the plane is heading straight for the camera, rather than the channel, it look to me like the pilot thought he would have some fun buzzing the camera, but didn't count on the winds changing. Doh!
What the hell was that?! Talk about bad airmanship, judgement etc. etc... Pull his ticket!!!
Thank you for turning to get the actual crash. Excellent filming.
Wow! thank god that nobody was injured. I think that is the best quality of a plane crash video ever!!! :D
he pulled it into the air and stalled
That's a lousy way to get a nice old bird on land.
amazing camera work there, hats off to you my man
awesome dude you caught almost the whole thing good job! :) wish all of the people were as quick and as firm as you when recording!!!
So, ah........why? And a slight right turn, looks like a mile of water available? Disclaimer: I've NEVER flown a Beaver.
Doctors and airplanes: matches and gasoline ----\--.X.--/---- my insurance rates just went up
this has to be one of the most amazing videos on youtube.
props to the cameraman to keep filming the crash !!!!! one of the only videos ive seen that shows the whole crash basicly
Wow. First video of an accident I've seen is 1080p. Props man. Also you've got balls dude.
I'm late to the party..but was this the original camera man never dies!!!? What a crazy video.
Holy Crap. That's some damn good filming! Glad everyone was safe!
Camera guy always lives. Good that you kept recording.
This video is 15 years old!!!!!! What a quality
Your the man for hanging in there as long as you did! Excellent work! 5 STARS!
Amazing! best vid ive seen up to yet! How lucky it didnt end up any worse! Great vid, thanks for sharing. Greeting's from Cyprus!!!
massive props for getting camera back up to film the plane come to rest..especially after almost getting killed by it.
*whew* That was close. Great job on the camera work.
Great vid man!
Wow....amazing video, your lucky he did not chop you up with the prop! A real shame though, that was a really nice plane. Thanks for posting and glad you did not get hurt. You are a KOOL camera man!
wow you were able to turn the camera around just in time to see the crash wow nice footage!
man is that extremely close, you are lucky twice.1st.the plane didn't hit you and 2nd ,you caught it on camera...awesome job to pan towards the actual crash. thumbs up to you my friend.
the video quality is amazing
Wow! Very impressing camera work!
wow was that close!! I also saw your video on World's Most Amazing Vacation Videos.
for once a friggin damn good video and not 'jiggy cam' like most on KZread. Good work!
@TheChrischi1981 So easy to fly? So Chris, what airplanes do you fly?
BEST CAMERA WORK ON KZread! Seriously dude, how did you stay with it? Even getting the ground impact after you dived! awesome!
engine wasn't full power..... was prop fined out? mixture right? over max weight?
Amazing Video! Great Job:)
VERRRRRRRRY NICE YOU ARE LUCKY THAT YOU HAVE SUCH FOOTAGE ON HD ! Omg , the most video's like this are crappy quality
Awesome High Def footage!
what model camcorder did you use to record the video???
I really cant tell...But looks like a little too much flap? Doesnt look like a tail wind from the wind sock? What did NTSB say?
I agree... its the best picture quality video ive ever senn in youtube! what camera u used?
that was some sick dodging there pal. props, like LEGIT
I saw you on TV today!!!
if I'm correct, there is two lakes connected by a small canal. since he was departing from the eastern lake to the west, why didn't he turn into the canal for more takeoff room.
Excellent video and I'm happy everyone made it out alive and ok!
Is there a post crash follow up video at all? MAN! that was crazy. Nice footage by the way. Love the quality of this camera. Any special settings with it to get this quality or is it just the stock default point and shoot settings?
What pristene means? Do it means they were unhurt?
Do enlighten me as to what "rule of thumb" is used by bush pilots to see if they have enough room left to get airborne when taking off? What's the answer on this one?
What was the stated cause as in the accident report ? Anybody read it?
That video was awesome!
why did u stop filming at the end
Whatever happened to taking off into the wind? 0:41 Did it change direction?
OMG! You have brass balls! Personally I'd have run for it when it looked like it had your name on it. It never looked good, I'm glad everyone survived.
now that's what i call 'actioncam', splendid stuff!
Awesome footage.
what about the flaps? do they look like they were too low? i think they were
Whoa, Hope the pilot & everyone is OK. Unbelievable you were right there to see it happen.
Big Balls , great camera work !!!!!
The recorder was incredible close to injury, luckily those on board survived the crash.
Wow, amazing! Great video, too. Way-to-go for panning back to the crash after almost having your head knocked-off. Most people just point the camera down after something like that!
As we say in the fire service, "Never lose your head over a piece of tail" Glad no one got hurt!
What camera did you use for this? It's VERY clear.
Very awesome camera work, diving for cover, still managed to get camera around to catch the crashing plane..... Wow, that's as close as it gets.
Wow, amazing video.
What was this filmed with?
I just have to tip my hat to the guy filming. I'm a pilot and photographer. It takes a lot of composure to avoid being hit then get the camera right back on subject. Nice work!! Glad everyone is ok. The best mistakes are the ones you walk away from and learn from.
amazing video
holy cow. that is amazing footage. i was like 'um that plane is coming right at you'. i don't know what the rotation speed is for a sea plane but it looked pretty slow...but it is coming straight at the camera so you can't tell. there was a crosswind though (per wind sock) but not terrible. Very happy no one was hurt... made me cringe when i read there were 2 kids onboard.
Yes I agree, he is head stright toward the bank with the wind from his right side. there was no correction made for the wind untill he left the water
hmm shall i use the whole 3 mile lake or just this strip?
wow epic camera work your nearly get killed but you sill managed to swivel the camera for all to see the crash good work.
Wow, awesome vid Your camcorder quality is amazing! Would you recommend it? I need a new camcorder for my bday and I've had my eye on this one since I saw this video
Why didn't he keep it going on the water on the ravine that you can see at the end alongside where it made contact.
Thank goodness everyone was safe. how windy was it that day?
why did he continue trying to take off
The DHC-2 is such a great plane...it almost hurts to see (and hear) that thing crunch. Glad to hear noone was injured/killed.
Fair play to the camera man, and it looks like nobody was seriously hurt, i hope not. In my videos there is a vid of my father and I in an crash..at croft farm, England its now rebuilt and flying again..thankfully!
Wow, excellent filming! What was this pilot doing??
Thank God about you are alive to tell this history!!
LOL! Thanks alot dude, just spit soda all over my laptop laughing at your post!
why did you stop filming -,-
If you notice at the end of the vid he forgot to put the water rudders down. And when the cross wind hit him along with the left float dipping back in, he couldn't compensate.
I've heard a Pratt and Whitney in a Beaver at take off thousands of times and he didn't have it throttled up.I noticed right away.
was the cam ok
looks like it was overloaded?
i like how you stuck with the crash on camera. most times you miss the best part
I cant find the NTSB report for this :/
Why didn't you continue filming and show us a close up of the rescue/aftermath?
Holy shit, how many of us can ever say they've almost been hit by a plane? That was legit.
Some reports in the news claim it was a wind gust changing its direction. I think instead the pilot was unable to put the floats on its steps. You can clearly see that he is ploughing through the water and therefore cannot gain speed.
this is good quality
