Every time I hear him sing this song I get goosebumps and in the middle of the song the tears just flow. As a child whose parents are Italian, I heard opera songs along with the Italian folk songs. As an adult not only do I enjoy these special performances but also on an emotional level it brings me back to my beautiful childhood. Pavarotti was an amazing and exceptional singer, a gift from heaven.

Anche i cibi italiani come gnocchi ai quattro formaggi, rondelli ai quattro formaggi, ravioli ai quattro formaggi, cannellonni, ed anche i cannoli ed il tiramisù. Abiti in Brasile? Sono vicino a San Paolo, in una città con grande influenza italiana. Studii italiano per due anni nel quartiere italiano di San Paolo. I love Luciano. However I really love watching Maestro Zubin Mehta. Having been in an orchestra myself, I realized how wonderful it is to have a great maestro. They can express things with their faces & bodies that the audience can’t see. Bravo Maestro Zubin Mehta!
I was brought here after listening to Elvis Presley's Surrender. Then somebody pointed out that the tune of Elvis' Surrender is similar to this song. Torna a Surriento is the tune I have been looking for as my mom used to hum this to me as a lullaby. Then my high school teacher sang Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's A Psalm of Life to the tune of Torna a Surriento. This is surreal to me now.

Dear Tommy, You’re right. It doesn’t have to be a competition. I know the work of Mario Lanza (his many films included). Still I prefer Pavarotti. In the end it’s a personal preference. Like in footbal. Some (the majority) prefer Messi, others Ronaldo. Bottom line: they’re both very good players. As Pavarotti and Lanza were good tenors.

I feel like I might have missed a lot in my life by not being of Italian heritage. I am glad however, that at least at age 69, I finally found out how much I love classical music; thanks to Mr. Pavarotti, my soulmate from another life.
