They'll probably do a sort of Kingdom Come meets Superman vs The Elite story, but using The Authority to play the role of edgy reckless juvenile heroes that the League/Superman has to counter. Which would be funny since The Authority was originally a pastiche of The Justice League, then The Elite was created as a pastiche of The Authority, and now all them coexist in the same fictional universe...

The Authority is to Good as is to alter drastically. I can see, superman not agreeing with their methods because the authority are good guys, but they just take no prisoners. He would be against the killing and the brutality. Yeah, I could see the JL being born, and the counter to them. That’s actually pretty good

@@patricktyler4712 No I didn't mean that The Authority as characters would be portrayed as juvenile delinquents, I think James Gunn has too much reverence for it since he mentioned that The Authority is a passionate project of his. I was referring to specifically the main conflict in the Kingdom Come storyline, specifically the juvenile reckless younger generation of heroes that Superman/The Justice League faced as an example... I could imagine The Authority being produced to appease the Snyderfans/people who for some reason still wants to see an "evil superman". But since James Gunn is using a lot of Grant Morrison's works as the template for the DCU, I'm just theorizing that The Justice League could form as the antithesis to The Authority, and maybe will lead into Grant Morrison's recent work Superman and The Authority, where we see Superman basically leading and grooming The Authority into his modernist/optimistic philosophy. But I'm just throwing speculations because its fun lol, nothing's been confirmed besides the original video and the article where Gunn and Peter Safran elaborated some bit of details...

The authority is nothing less than spectacular. They were made for a big budget te summer movie. I cannot believe they are doing a movie based off them. They are my favorite superhero team of all time and this is the best news. I’ve heard all week.

The only way execs and producers understand films in an elevator pitch context is to relate it to other products they understand and saw were successful. It’s a Hollywood language that even the most independently creative have to use to give shallow, commercially minded people some form of reassurance. This was as much for the industry as it was for the fans. It’s the only way they know how to communicate ideas quickly.

The projects I'm most excited for are probably Waller, Lanterns, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Authority and Paradise Lost. Especially Lanterns and Supergirl which are the ones I'm most familiar with but have never been done well in television or film. Kara Zor-El has always had a darker "origin" than her cousin Kal-El, and because she lived through and witnessed the demise of her planet, she was never able to adapt or become as attached to Earth and humans as Superman. We could also say that she has anger issues and she's all about justice, whatever form that takes. If this is the Supergirl they intend to make, I'm absolutely all for it.

I'll be real bro. I don't know how you could ever complain about DC making a seperate Batman for the DCU. I understand that people feel like Batman is a bit oversaturated. But Batman is ESSENTIAL to any form of official Justice League line up. And this will be a different side of Batman than we've ever seen on the big screen. Not only will he likely be much closer to the comics Batman (in that he can do things no regular human could ever do in real life), but he'll be tackling fatherhood. I'm excited for this whole slate. The only thing I wish we'd gotten was some sort of Ezra Miller recasting announcement.

Also with supergirl the best thing about this description is that it opens up the door for to potentially become a Red Lantern or even introduce the Legion of Superheroes.

I get Jei's frustration at Gunn talking about certain shows and name-dropping top-tier programming and raising expectations, but I think that is a calculated move from the other half of the duo, Peter Safran. Gunn made sure to get the branding synergy out front and center. DC is owned by WB and WB owns HBO. There's a reason why Gunn mentioned elite programming comparisons ALL under the HBO banner (True Detective, Game Of Thrones, etc) instead of mentioning stuff like Andor, The Boys, Loki, etc. It seems like Gunn and Safran want to make sure people associate DC with high-level content. For the elite nerds like us, we pick through that statement asap and think about the weight of those show associations lol. But for the general audience, casual comic movie/tv watchers, and shareholders listening, that statement meant more about people going "Oh sweet, Paradise Lost could be bloody?" "Oo a detective comic show. Cool!" and that's it. Love you guys! 200K is just around the corner!

You guys misunderstood when james said about game or thrones and true detective. Hes not comparing them to those shows. He said it's in the style of those shows.

I need a Martian Manhunter movie An origin story, seeing the destruction of his people on Mars, losing everyone he has ever known, him being stranded on Earth, trying assimilate with the people here, overcoming all that pain and heartache, trying be a help people here only to have them be scared of him due to his looks, then becoming a detective, and finally the hero we all know. Since he’s so OP he can be a pacifist, but when he goes all out I want to see him go all out! I’d much rather have that than them nerf him.

The bar is set, me personally he have to get that bar, if he don't game over

I think what you fail to see when Gunn specifically announced what the shows would be akin to “Game of thrones but Wonder Woman” “True Detective” is because of the WB executives, the suits. He has to make some sort of tangible sense to them verbally to them and the fans as there aren’t many things going on besides writing and announcing the slate itself. He has to still politic and play nice with WB.

I wish we could get a Clayface/Roland Dagget series, with Batman of course.

Overall W for DC based off this slate. Gotta see how its executed on screen though! Can't wait for a more Traditional hopeful but a still powerful Superman. Can't wait for a complete narrative in the universe, some order. 1 over arching story. No switching actors, cancelling movies, non-canon this, canon that, rushing stories (i.e. BvS story, death of superman, superman returning, darkseid, joker, manhunter) all of which lead nowhere tbh. Everything will start a new. Can't wait for Flash to reboot it all!

23:04 - 23:24 You have to be careful with starting with animated shows if they're going to be using the same actor, because then you have to find someone who actually looks like the character. Often in voice acting the person doesn't actually look like the character, especially way back when. With that being said though, there is now more of an effort to make the character look like the actual voice actor. Star Wars: Fallen Order is a classic example of this, Cal Kestis is modelling heavily on the voice actor Cameron Monaghan and they did a brilliant job. If this is the idea moving forward with movies/shows/games etc.. AND it can work properly... then I'm all for it.

If you have to products like True Detective, Game of Thrones, and Watchman then take inspiration from those products into your movies and tv series. The big thing I took away was is James Gunn’s focus on story telling. That Will separate them from Marvel. Marvel does a solid job of story telling but sometimes we excuse bad story telling to get to the bigger plot. That is the current main issue with the current DCEU is that the writing and story telling is bad. You can great action pieces but the audience isn’t invested in these characters then they will not come back to watch another film.

Honestly I'm not onboard with this slate at all but I really hope it does well... well it has to do well or else if it flops 😂 I rate the that gunn is bringing in unknown characters to the big screen but they are all unnecessary especially as part of the first phase

Problem nowadays with films and a big comic book company has to always deal multiverse

Why do we need a black lead? Do we need an Eskimo lead? What about a Maori lead? We haven't had a native American lead. What about an Australian lead? Boomerang for example. We need a dwarf lead, a ginger lead, a disabled lead, a transexual lead... do you see? Where does it end? We just need GOOD leads, true to the comics, regardless of skin colour, sexuality, gender etc.

*It’s well known* that when you pitch something in Hollywood - you kind of have to mention other properties as a point of reference.. Chris Stuckman even said it in an interview with another writer.. it’s not that deep tbh - plus James Gunn is a fan himself.
