I would really love to see an entire series about AV-8B tutorial. Almost all the stuff on YT is out dated or rubbish, really few good things remain. Moreover, with recent updates lots of stuff has changed and would be cool to see a review of them.

Admittedly the Harrier is one of the modules I picked up a while ago and despite completing the start up and take procedure I got distracted and never went back to it. I've recently come back to DCS and I'm pretty much starting from a clean slate due to how much I've forgotten. This video has really got me considering learning the Harrier over any of the other options I currently have available.

I just bought the Harrier on Steam minutes ago, can't wait to begin learning it! And I'm excited for more of your superb teaching videos on it, as well. It was a toss up between purchasing the A-10C or the Harrier. The Hawg is awesome, too, but I'll stick with the lovely low-fidelity A-10A for now, and get the C or C II in the Steam Summer sale. As a side note I just bought the lovely Mirage, too...tried it out on the free ten day trial on the non-Steam DCS version and fell in love. Ya have a good day, TP! :-)

Nice vid Pascal, just a heads up (this is something a lot people have been misunderstanding from the manual) you move the throttle forward into idle as soon as you see RPM increase not at 9.2%, you also wanna bring your flaps up to Cruise while on the ground for shore operations, you set Auto or STOL when you are about to line up. Another thing to note is that the INS mode Selector Knob(giggity) should go to IFA not NAV as you have a working GPS on the Harrier so you couple both the INS to the GPS. Keep up the good work my guy o7

Aaron is completely correct, also taking chocks off before engine start is an ED bug under investigation, not because they will get sucked into the engine, irl chocks have to be used on start up as the brake system has no pressure in it, only once the engine is running does the brake system pressurise to hold the parking brakes on, engine idle thrust is enough to move the aircraft hence the chocks use.

Ifa takes as much time as a standard alignment, but allows you to line and take off while doing so, it's not longer. Once the aircraft is aligned, switch to ifa, not to nav, that way you about ins drift The wheel chocks is an ED bug, not standard procedure. Normally there's stay on until ready to taxi. Rather tan pull back on the stick, gently rotate your nozzles, even for conventional take offs, it'll put less stress on your wheels and will produce a smoother transition

When I was on Harriers as ground crew in the RAF it was us that input the INS on the walk around plus the APU would be started to get the engine started and you did not have anyone check the sidewinders and remove their noddy caps and finally the chocks would be the last thing removed before taxi but apart from those it was close.

I'm thinking of purchasing this air craft, but need to ask, can it be used like the other planes I have ie: keyboard as opposed to mouse to click on the controls in the cockpit? I've master the keyboard controls with the other jets I have and find it less of a distraction by not having to click on things with the mouse. That's the only thing putting me off the AV-8B at the moment. If you could advise, then it would be really appreciated.

No APU use here? I always thought when starting up a turbine you always had to start with an APU, then once RPM is satisfactory, fire the engine.

Harriers have a GTS (Gas turbine starter) basically like an APU but it hooks up to the accessory gearbox and spools up the main engine until it reaches idle.
