Hey Guys Spudknocker here! Today we are going to be taking a look at Electro-Optical Guided Weapons in the new DCS F-4E Phantom II.
Electro-Optically Guided Weapons were first pioneered during the Second World War by American and Nazi Scientists and came of age in the late 1950’s with the invention of the AGM-62 Walleye by US Navy Scientists and contractors at the China Lake Range Complex in Southern California.
The US Navy’s Electro-Optically Guided Weapons research was pursued in Parallel to the mostly USAF headed Paveway Laser Guided Bomb Program. While both LGB’s and EO guided weapons were used extensively over North Vietnam by both services. The Navy’s favoring of Walleye allowed US Navy pilots to hit targets in the always marginal weather conditions of North Vietnam, that precluded the use of the Paveways and BOLT-117’s favored by the USAF.
The Heatblur Rendition of the F-4E Phantom II is capable of employing both the US Navy’s AGM-62 Walleye I and II as well the USAF Developed GBU-8 HOBOS or Homing Bomb System.
Even though the Walleye my not be your first choice in the modern F/A-18C, while flying the F-4E an EO Guided Weapon’s All Weather and Fire-and-Forget capability compare very favorably to the Finicky and Crew Workload intensive Pavespike Targeting Pod and Paveway Series of LGB’s.

Hey guys! I hope this video helps you out with using EO Guided Weapons in the F-4E! While the Walleye may not be your first choice in the in the F/A-18C, EO Guided Weapons will a key part of your Phantom II's Arsenal!
Solid video as expected. Just a heads up, the Perry-class frigates weren't exactly "bristling" with AAA. They had a single-rail launcher up front, CIWS out back in between the helo hangar doors, and some deck mounted .50 cal guns (if they had those at all.) They were more intended as an ASW screen than as part of the air-defense umbrella for the big dumb floating airport. Source: my brain and numerous cruises on the Little Frigates That Couldn't But Still Tried Really Hard.

It was more of a generality about all shipping targets haha definitely can’t say the same about a Kirov haha! 🤣

@@Spudknocker No, the Kirov were / are a definite problem. I'd be more inclined to have someone chuck an AGM-84 (better yet call the pointy-nose guys and the new AGM-158) or seven at those and just sit somewhere safe. The engagement process for those (from a helo perspective) was find target, avoid being shot down, track target, avoid being shot down, close to missile envelope, avoid being shot down, shoot weirdly-finned Norwegian anti-ship missile missile at evil boat, avoid being shot down, then hastily flee while (I may have previously mentioned this) avoiding being shot down.
Nice to see shorter, more concise and concentrated video tutorials packed with helpful info such as controls, how to use and how to behave/employ.

Good discription of this system 👍 As a german i only use dumb bombs, cbu's and snakeeys and No aim7, but i Love this plane. It's the Luftwaffendiesel

Excellent my friend. Some of the greatest bomber and ground attack pilots the world has ever seen have come from Germany. As an American, every time I visit Germany I fall in love with the country. It’s such an amazing place and people. My Grandfather was a B-17G ball turret gunner and had the upmost respect for Germany and its people. I hope you channel the spirit of Hans Ulrich Rudel and dive bomb like a true Sturzkampfgeschwader pilot. 👍🏻

I love the walleye on the F-18. Big warhead, and a fire and forget weapon OR you can watch it on the TV and guide it while flying home. You can use the targeting pod to point it to the target long range also if you think the optics suck on the walleye.

Does the datalink mode in the walleye2 work yet?

Unfortunately we are going to have to wait for the F-4E DMAS, our DSCG F-4E at the moment cannot use Datalink

can't get the hobo to lock on anything. Haven't tried ships yet. But over the ground? It's frustrating.... From altitude I'll hold down the trigger all the way until I have to pullup to avoid hitting the ground. It simply wont lock.
