Landing with no flaps I knew I'd be fast, but my smooth brain didn't figure I'd have no brakes either :) :)

Fantastic stuff! Way too little P-47 content out there, it's probably the highest quality module I've flown, you can practically smell that cockpit. Cheers, Odin

If you love the 56th I highly recommend a trip to Suffolk to the Halesworth airfield museum. The 56th were based there for a while and there are loads of artefacts in the museum. You could also tie it in with a trip to Thorpe abotts to see the bloody hundredth.

Lil tip, if you are both slow in a turn fight and its one on one, drop 10 or 20 in flaps kick in the water meth injection, or war emergency power, and you can really rate around quick. Has saved me a few times.

People like to talk about that later exploits of the 56th but forget the part where they were a new and desperate unit, lol. Failing early is WHY the 56th later became the "Zemkes Wolfpack," lol. Also, you dont seem to be using the K14 correctly. Youre basically using it more like a fancy fixed sight, lol. Use Range adjust constantly. Yes, ideally you want your range to be the the center bore distance but that rarely if ever happens. If you use range adjust (and of course wingspan adjust) correctly you will always hit the tgt when the piper is on him.

  • @TacticalPascale

I fly mainly flatscreen as I record everything, occasionally VR. For the jug, have your gyro sight set to the largest setting, when you find an enemy, adjust the sight so the wingspan fits in the reticle. Lead it a little and pull the trigger.

You know why everyone flies around at treetop height on public servers ? because it's the only way to spot another aircraft - seeing it silhouetted against the sky - thanks to the lousy spotting in DCS So why don't these servers use neutral colored dots as labels ? to put everyone on a level playing field and encourage real world tactics ? because a small group of people have figured out that reducing their resolution to the absolute minimum allows them to see other aircraft more easily. They shriek and scream and cry " but muh realism !! muh immershun !! " if anyone dares to suggest using labels. It's not about realism or immersion, it's really about their precious kill to death ratios. That's one reason why IL-2 is so much better than DCS....

@@TacticalPascale Well, I didn't expect to get a reply, let alone one a positive one. I don't know if you've had any experience of IL-2 Cliffs Of Dover ? I flew maybe 600 hours in that, just before the multiplayer scene died. Because the sim had a nicely implemented visual scaling routine ( probably a bit weighted for easy visibility really ) everyone - even on dogfight servers - were applying the tactics of 1940. Because they had to. You'd take off in your Spit and Hurri and immediately you would be clawing for height and trying to get above the 109's before they could bounce you. Pretty much all the lessons of those aerial battles were demonstrated to you. But DCS is missing all of that, and ironically the people who are crying about their realism are the ones who have turned it into a game, rather than a ( fun ) learning experience.

  • @TacticalPascale

I’ve flown MP on IL-2 on quite a few occasions and loved it. Ive spent much longer on DCS multiplayer servers and I agree that the spotting is crap. The scaling in IL2 is excellent and makes for better “fights”. I tried WW2 tactics the other day on the 4ya server, I sat at 28000ft in my jug, and no one came up.

The same thing happens in War Thunder servers in SIM battle. All of them are in lowest possibile alt, where planes like P-47, P-38 and other high alt fighters have more disadvantages then japanese, german fighters. That's why many players choosing Axis fighters cause its easier to get better kill/death ratio. So im planning to get IL-2 soon.

  • @colderwar

@@Turloghan IL-2 Great Battles is pretty good, I think you'll like it. It's definitely way better value than DCS just on the issue of pricing. IL-2 Cliffs Of Dover and the expansion though aren't something you'd probably want. The multiplayer scene has recovered slightly, but it is still only a literal handful of people - and it isn't great in single player because of various issues. So there isn't much value there for you. I keep it around for old times sake I suppose, I had a lot of fun with it.
