Nyjah getting snubbed for Skater of the Year is a testament that the skating populace resents a talented, self-made, successful skater. They prefer a gritty try-hard that takes 50 tries to land a bank or pool trick.

You can never really appreciate how good these guys are until they demo your local. There's a rail at mine, round flat kink then down a ten stair bank. Sketch as it gets. If a local 50-50's it he'll always get props. Anyway, dc demo about a year ago. Nyjah was injured. Rolled up to the rail almost as stand still speed. Without moving his limbs at all, popped onto 50-50 and landed it bolts, again not moving any limb. It was literally as if he was just standing still. The flat part at the top is maybe half a boards length so when he landed he was landing on a kink. No movement. Insane shit. The rail is just below hip height too

Seems like it has everything to do with nyjahs personality or what that people dislike him? His skating speaks for itself. Huston, oliveira, and joslin have now set the bar for pro street skating so high, cant wait to see what the next generation of amateurs and pros bring. Skateboarding has been and always will be the most technical, and difficult sport for anyone to aspire to. Better chance of going pro in football, basketball, hockey and baseball combined than you do of becoming a pro skater. Love this sport, always and forever

SayboP Are you trying to justify the fact that cutting off a rail, public property or not, is something nobody should care about? That destroying public goods is something that should be taken lightly? That kind of attitude, "They RIP us off, fuck the government, fuck everything" will lead the world to a better place that's for sure. Oh and by the way that public stuff that gets destroyed most likely will have to be replaced, and guess who is gonna pay? Tax payers, you and me. Unless you're living on another planet.

Damn, this brings back some memories... I would have loved to still be skating, but hey, I had to make a decision. Continue skateboarding and focus solely on that, or quit and save my body for surfing and other sports. I like surfing more and I know I'd be able to do it for many more years... But damn, when you approach this level of skateboarding, your body just gets wrecked. It's been 2 years since I've quit and a tendon in my right wrist just refuses to heal. Luckily the tendon isn't recruited with any kind of weight training from what I've noticed, even the odd angles from kettlebell juggling... I'm just glad my ankles recovered completely. A lot of people don't realize the sacrifice these guys are making for skating. Doing all these drops, by the time you hit 30, your body is a wreck. Rodney Mullen is still going strong because he never does stairs and rails like these, and the vert guys wear pads and don't get such blunt force either, because they fall on a curved surface. Heck, I skated vert quite a bit, and even the worst falls on vert, wearing no pads, where less hectic than even some basic falls on street.

19, can confirm. Always trying to tre 10 stairs and hardflip ridiculous gaps, (I was successful half the time!), I've broken, fractured, and rolled both of my ankles so many times that they just don't heal correctly anymore. One small ankle tweak to either one of my ankles while just messing around on a skateboard and I'm on the ground for like 5 minutes in agony. I'm pretty sure my physician told me my ankles are going to require physical therapy to "try" and strengthen them back to when they once were. Still in good shape though! Doing exercises every day and avoiding bigger sets.

Ever since I picked up yoga, I haven't been able to get myself to go to the weightroom or run on the treadmill. I still play sports, snowboard and skate. My main workout is yoga though, and it makes you more aware of your body, and even your thoughts. I found it more beneficial for my day-to-day life, as well as my skating. And trust me, it never hurts to be one of a few guys in a room full of females ;)

My era of skateboarding was the 90's and have seen some pretty dope skaters through the years (Bay Area) but I must say that watching Nyjah reminds me of the rebirth of Eric Koston and how he pulls off countless tech tricks with ease!!! My favorite 3 skaters.....Steve Berra, Brandon Turner, and Peter Smoleck!!!

How would this have changed? It wouldn't have changed anything. Most of it is the same clips from the original part. He doesn't deserve it based off of 1 part he released the whole year. Ishod earned it and deserved it, he's been killing it all year.

BGskater209 Ishod other parts basically throw away besides Nike. His nike part was was only thing comparable to Nyjah. I am sure Nyjah had mass amount of footage that he could have put out in a throw away parts. Ishod maybe last minute of his Nike part is equal to Nyjah, if that. Oh ya AND what about SL.

szymborski11 Street League isn't really street skating. What people like to see is true street skating out in the streets and getting kicked out of spots and doing different variations of tricks down rails, stairs, gaps, etc.

lol there's so many video parts that show people taking skatestoppers off ledges and rails..sawing rails ...etc. but when the best skater in the world does it everybody hates...other skaters also have a flawless robotic style but ..for some reason everybody hates on nyjah for it.....lots of skaters try to win contests ...idk.. when I see people hate on nyjah for shit other skaters do it becomes obvious that you're really hating for the one obvious difference that he has from other skaters which is simply being the best ......"but no one skater can be the best!!!!!!"....yes that's what everybody says and its true to a degree ..there are many factors to take into consideration..style, creativity, trick selection ..if we are judging off that it would be a tough question ..but typically the debate is about trick difficulty ...please tell me what other tricks have been done that match the difficulty of a switch bigspin heel down a 16 or a back lip down a steep ass 22 or a fucking perfect backside 270 kf lipslide on a handrail ....I rest my case

aiGeis well shit, I aint seen footage of him since his round 3 part, and dont you think it's weird comparing street skating to freestyle? I mean it's kinda like hatin on nyjah because he cant do a 900 or skate tranny as good as grant taylor. Nyjah's a hammer stomper and he's currently the best at it. Plus, you gotta watch his fullcab flip late shuv at tampa pro, that's the shit that put him apart from the others
