Dude. There's some factors you left out. Nicole Perlman was over shadowed by Gunn after she spent 2 years researching Guardians to get the script right. Guardians was successful cause it came out post 2012's Avengers. People wanted more MCU. Even 2013's Ironman 3 made over a billion. Gaudians featured Thanos (in his first speaking role). Every mcu movie made money after 2012's Avengers. The stars literally aligned for Gunn. To give him sole credit for Guardians when he came into an already successful franchise is insane.

I think its the opposite. DC is starting from the ground up. No one is expecting every movie/show to be a hit or even catch on, they're still testing the waters with general audiences. Marvel has had a ton of flops and have lost general audiences trust. They need years of consistency to gain that trust back so they cannot afford to have another flop like the Marvels or Quantumania because they'll permanently lose fans.

I think the separation of the mainline DCU and the “black label” properties like Reeves Batman and Phillips Joker is genius. Some people aren’t interested in cinematic universes and just want to see a self contained narrative. It also offers a lot of opportunity for elseworld stories and different takes that can vary wildly artistically from the mainline films. I like that they are kind of structuring this like the comics. I don’t think we’ll ever see something like WW Dead Earth in the mainline canon - but in an elseworld film it could definitely work.

In DC's fanzine, Amazing World of DC Comics, number 14 (March, 1977), Metropolis was clearly stated to be located in Delaware, while Gotham was placed in New Jersey, meaning they were roughly 114 miles apart (geographically speaking). Not what I'd call "very close". That aside, be careful how you use the word "fact" in relation to those 2 cities, as "facts" change all the time in comics.

DC first mistake was hiring Zack goddamn Snyder. Yes, his Snyder cut was decent, but when you hire a guy who goes "Yeah Batman kills" but have no literal explanation as to why he doesnt kill the Joker, you have hired an absolute clown, no pun intended. EDIT: The best Lex Luthor is Mr. Krabs, but he is getting older so I can see why they wouldnt cast him.

Ever since the infamous Yellowjacket slap (which exists because of an artist to the writer disconnect), Hank Pym has been permanently seen as a abuser and Janet van Dyne as a nothing burger of a character, and let's not talk about how they were treated in the original Ultimate universe too. Apparently, the writers of the Secret Invasion comic wanted to retcon that moment by saying Hank was replaced by a Skrull but Marvel vetoed that because it "was the most notable thing Hank had done in the comics beforehand. " ...what? They were part of the original Avengers line up in the comics alongside Iron Man, Thor and Hulk, Wasp even named the team for crying out loud. Now, in the MCU, they're just old mentor figures to Scott and Hope (Scott's well done, but Hope is a nothing burger of a character, in my opinion). The last time they were in anything mainstream was the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon back in the early 2010's where they were shown as original Avengers members, as intended and were given character arcs and flaws to overcome. I've heard that they're in the rebooted Ultimate universe with Hank and Janet as Ant-Man/Giant-Man and the Wasp, but it's still not enough after so many decades.

DCEU sucks because they tried too hard to mimic the MCU. Instead of trying to write great stories, they focus on being dark, edgy, and having big explosions and action scenes that are hard to follow. Wish they'd calm tf down and just adapt stories from the books.

I think Gunn’s DCU can work, but they need to keep the WB executives as far away as possible.

I trust James Gunn. He brought the GOTG whom none of the general public had known about, and made them household names, while still maintaining his own vision and infusing it with his style and so much heart. Unlike other or previous heads at DC or even Marvel, James cares a lot about the director's vision, which I respect a lot. I hope the new DCU is great, and doesn't fail

Hopefully we'll get a comic accurate ginger Wally rather than using Wallace but I'd love to see him start of as Kid Flash before becoming the Flash after Barry's death. Imma be real, we MUST let James Gunn cook. But personally I am carefully optimistic about him, he still has the "we are a broken family/team and we bond over the movie" trope in Superhero movies and the weird characters chosen to be given shows/movies makes me rise an eyebrown... BUT we must let him cook, because in the end of the day he seems to like comics and wants to tell a story worth telling... I have faith in it, but I also have to admit I have a high bar for his universe.

I just want a Superman who is an honest, kind man who wants to help people with a smile. If James Gunn is inviting over comic creators and experts of the Superman mythos, then THAT IS GREAT! That SHOULD be the standard! He has my vote and support. I may not like all of his projects but he’s shown to be good.

Personally I'd rather they be close in age as itll make sense narratively and in the comics they tend to be around the same age with Bruce depicted as just a little older. So Clark being between the ages of 28-31 and Bruce 30-34 is I'd personally go for but I respect your opinion

Batman was 31 during the new 52 and Superman was stated to be 23. They haven’t been close in age since pre crisis.

I have complete faith in the DCU. I believe James Gunn and Peter Safran will do wonders for DC. While I love Batman, there is more to DC than just him, and James Gunn can show that.

If it flops DC is done but if it’s successful I could see DC rivaling and eventually getting the same amount of hype as the MCU in its peak.

It really hit me how bad DC’s reputation with general audiences is lowkey cooked when I asked my friend if she had seen the Batman the other day and her response was simply “no bc I don’t like DC films” like it was such a blanket statement I was a little dumbfounded bc like how can you just write off a whole group of films like that but it’s bc the dceu killed her interest overall

After they put James Gunn in charge (his Suicide Squad is crap) and he shamefully fired Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot, but left John Cena, Viola Davis and Margot Robbie, I'm done with DC!

Nothing Gunn announced got me excited. Doesn't sound like he wants to do a definitive version of the DC cinematic universe. Sounds like he's just using the universe as a aandbox to play in, but you can't build a cinematic universe off of mostly side/support characters.

Exactly. The first casting announcements should've been core DC characters: Green Lantern. WW. The Flash. Batman. Superman. I've been reading comics a long time. I haven't ever given a damn about "Mr. Terrific" lol. He's a D-list character at best.

Superman being a flop won't stop the DCU, as long as its still good and gets good reviews it will continue and Gunn's movies always get good reviews so Superman will be fine. If the DCU as a whole flops, WB aren't going to make DC movies anymore except maybe Batman. The rest of DC's movie rights will be sold off to other studios and we'll never get a DC cinematic universe.

The main reason why I have faith in gunn's superman (apart from the fact that I love all his movies) is that he's great at giving his characters and his movies a heart. He made us feel genuine sadness for polkadot man with a three-seconds shot of ratcatcher crying while holding a piece of his clothes at the end of the battle. He made us cry for yondu. Who saw that one coming after the first movie? He made us love peacemaker, after making us hate peacemaker, after he killed rick flag, after he made us love rick flag, after not giving a shit about rick flag in the first movie. My point is, he makes us love the misfits, the broken and the outcasts, and think "if those guys can be better, I too could be better". And that's the whole deal of superman. Sure, it's hard to see superman as a misfit, an outcast or broken, but if you see him as gunn sees him, as the superman of kingdom come, a man that holds values that are seen as old-fashion, naive or even lame in a world with the authority, that douchebag of guy gardner and other heroes that wouldn't mind killing and would treat him and his values as a joke... you can totally see him as a perfect character for a james gunn movie.

So basically James Gunn’s Batman will be older than Pattinson’s, but younger than Affleck’s

To your point on Batman and Superman ages. I think that Bruce Wayne should be around 37-38 years old. My fancast say Oliver Jackson cohen. He Got the acting chops, the look, and he’s 37 so Batman will only be about 5 years older than Superman. Now as for Batman having the 4 robins in his age this is how u do it. Age 25: Batman year 1 sometime before year 1 age 25 Batman meets Talia in his early 20s and Damian is born. Age 28: Batman meets and trains a 15 year old dick Grayson. And starts crime fighting with him for like 2 years. Age 31: Bruce meeting a 14-15 year old jason todd shortly after dick Grayson now age 18 is now nightwing. Age 33: the killing joke and death in the family. Barbara paralyzed and jason dies. Age 35: Bruce meets Tim drake. Bruce refuses to make him robin after what happened to jason and Barbara. So instead he allows Tim to be the tech guy on the bat computer helping Bruce on missions basically the role that oracle has. Age 37: brave and the bold Batman meets Damian. The batfamily goes catwoman, nightwing, batgirl, and Tim( not as robin but an honorary robin, makes it easier for the general audience).Dick is now in his mid 20s, Jason will be early 20s when he eventually comes back, Barbara around mid 20s, Tim is like 18, Selina around Bruce age maybe a little younger, Damian is 10-13 years old

Remember that you have to take into account when the movie is going to come out, it's to early to be fancasting. It's also easier to take a younger guy and just say he's older in the movie than to take an old guy and say he's younger in the movie

Yea I agree Jenson and Alan are too old for the role Batman, Brandon Skenlar is a good cast Batman he’s 6’2 and 32 currently and all James Gunn needs to do is take elements from the New 52 bat family Timeline, and adaptations don’t always copy and paste you can make Bruce start being Batman at age 23 to 24, I say Bruce should be around 35 in the movie brave and the bold.

DC won't be dead. It will not be as popular as Marvel but it won't be dead. This has been said when Schumacher's Batman happened. This has been said when Ryan Reynold's Green Lantern happened. This was even said when everything after BvS happened. I know it's content to be extreme and exaggerated but I think it's important to be level headed to actual create an actual good discussion or commentary on why DC is failing. Not DYING, just FAILING in one part of media entertainment.

Absolutely excited for this. There's so much passion and planning ahead that just wasn't there for the DCEU. Even amongst whose been casted. I don't get the hesitation from "fans" to embrace this new future that has everything good going for it.

The reason the DCEU failed is because of WB meddling, rushing to catch up to marvel, forced comedy, and lack of a consistent tone/universe. Not only that, Snyder was originally signed on to make a Superman trilogy, not a whole flipping universe, BVS was forced onto him. I reckon if Nolan had directed MOS, BVS, and JL with the same amount of meddling by WB, we’d still be here today, but with a different attitude towards the company. Which is why I cannot trust WB with any film production apart from DC, because it’s always the same result in the end.

James should bring some of the writers from Bruce Timm DCAU like Alsn Burnett or Paul Dini.

I think people should for the film to release before criticizing, we've only seen glimpse of it of the film, and it looks like Gunn knows what he's doing. I've seen james lied a few times, but I'll trust him with superman. I don't see it failing because it's Superman, if the previous superman films can succeed, so can this one. I also hate the toxic fued between both fanbases of Gunn and Snyder when they are truly decent friends in real life. I don't care who's more of a problem, both fanbases should calm down.

Really not a fan of Gunn’s two past DC projects, so I’m skeptical. And I think it’s okay to be skeptical of the DCU instead of attacking anyone who doesn’t say it’s already a guaranteed success. Although I am excited for Superman based off everything Gunn has said about the character

I also hope there isn't a scene where, in any of the DCU movies, that someone makes fun of the names of the characters or go "look at how weird these costumes are". My number 1 gripe about modern super hero stuff these days.

Just to clarify. Peacemaker season 1 is not canon but the events that took place within it are canon. James Gunn said that you won’t need any previous knowledge because they will probably explain what happened in Season 1 anyway. Kind of like how in the Batman, Joker is already caught, we have no idea how or when but we just know that he has been caught. So in Creature Commandos Waller can’t use humans anyway, we don’t know how or when but we know that (although in this case it’s more like “we don’t need to know how or why she can’t use humans because they’ll probably explain how Task Force X got exposed).

They didn't want the writers to read secret invasion because they would have realized that story is leagues cooler than the shit they were being told to make.

Well, DC is dead then. James Gunn is about the worst guy that you can pick to run DC. He's going to clown-up DC. And James Gunn ruined Peacemaker.

Considering Batman canonically started out in his early 20s, it is reasonably plausible to say that he could be at the Damian age by 40. If Dick Grayson is involved, we can assume he had a couple solo years and then say 6-8 years before that, then assume he had his fling with talia about halfway through that, and Damian grows up to 10, that would mean the movie should take place 15 years into the crusade.

Tim does need more love and a project like Titans would be great for him but I think too many people associate the Titans with Dick due to the cartoons. Tim's greatest asset is his brilliant mind as a detective so there's gotta be a ton of other places he can be used. One that comes to mind is the Outsiders because they can be a more street level team and thay can lean into his investigation skills.

I'm optimistic for James Gunn's direction for a superhero universe. Even before he became a big director, he played around with superhero stories. He wrote a low-budget movie called The Specials which is a comedy about the sixth (or seventh) most popular superhero team in the world. He directed and wrote Super which is about a street crime level superhero. Both of them came before the big superhero wave, so I think the topic is a passion project for him. WB executives on the other hand....

The projects that he announced a while ago (both movies and series), at least, can't afford to fail. A LOT is riding on this, an ENTIRE BRAND! So if those projects can be a moderate to huge success will lead to good things and more projects being revealed and announced that people may love.

And I think our host is right, but I would add that the overall health of the franchise will get more help from a really huge Suicide Squad 2. I think that'll be the source of an expanded fanbase. I think DC should’ve waited a little longer before dropping a new DCU movie-verse on us, but whatever. Kinda skeptical about Gunn. He’s really at his best when writing for more obscure, comedic characters. This coupled with the fact that he’s bringing Tom King (probably best known for destroying Batman and Wally West’s Flash in comics) into the writing room and adapting his work, is an instant turn off (why King? Why not anyone else? Mark Waid or Tom Taylor maybe? Anyone but King.)

All I ask for in a Marvel/DC/Transformers movie etc is a Good and decent movie that can entertain me with great characters that feel authentic, compelling themes and even though I stopped read comics I'd like it to be accurate and use the source material. All we want is good films back to back to back to back

While thay crossover would be cool and would be an instant billion dollar movies, those three IPs are owned by three different studios and they have no incentive to work together.
