Okay I understand Herb is usually a good ref but this time I agree that it was a late stoppage. Dude gets clonked in the head sits there for half a second then falls over with his hands outstretched instead of covering his head from ground and pound. Herbert was obviously too hurt to defend himself in the moment and tbh this whole situation could have been avoided had Trinaldo not waited a second and just smashed Herbert with like 2 good shots right after he fell over and Herb would have stopped it imo. The Askren/Lawler situation isn't even comparable to this stoppage.

see the issue with bringing up this is that Herb's stoppage of the Askren/Lawler fight is super controversial especially with how Robbie sprung right up afterwards so seemingly he wasn't asleep, for me I'm just surprised Herd didn't stop the Trinaldo/Herbert fight earlier because he stopped Ferguson/Gaethje and Nunes/Rousey while both of those fights were on the feet and neither Ferguson nor Rousey were out cold but they were out of the fight, and I'd say at least from how he fell and got laid out on the ground Herbert was far more out of it than Ronda or Tony

This was the most important discussion of the year of this podcast - because it was the most important incident and issue of the year (and continuing). Hary was holding refereeing accountable. He identified a phenomenon, and educated us about it. And re: Herb Dean, Hardy, and this incident showed how 'experience' is over rated, can lead to complacency, and in contexts be dangerous even.

There's a difference between a flash knockdown and getting knocked out stiff. When a fighter gets dropped and puts his hands "up" screaming 'please don't hit me' in a state of near oblivion, that calls for a stoppage. Watch the Jacare vs Weidman fight for reference.

@@proven7103 the sound proof box would be next to the octagon, located exactly where they are situated now. There would be microphones on the outside picking up the noises and speakers on the inside. This way the commentators would hear what is happening.

I almost ALWAYS agree with DC's viewpoint on things, another great take here. I'm on Dan's side absolutely, but I can also appreciate he didn't act in the most professional way, and so can he, it's just for him that's an automatic response because of his empathy for the fighters, so he would most likely do that exactly the same if it happened again.

I don’t disagree with what both are saying but I feel that sometimes we forget to take in consideration what a difficult job refereeing is. On top of that they’re often being critiqued and most of the time for stopping a fight to early.

Since fights have been back. I couldn't understand how after the first fighters said they were listening to the commentary to aid them during the fight they didn't tell them to keep quiet, put up a sound barrier or move them. DC was actually one of the loudest commentators since fights have been back. Maybe now the commissions will do something about this now. Regardless of if you think he was done or not Herb has a huge point.

Easy to say it was late and he was clearly out, however you have an advantage of seeing multiple camera angles over and over, where as the ref has a split second decision and who knows where he may be positioned.. The guys arms were up then moved to cover appearing to be ready to block a shot, his head was still up off of the floor, so I can see how it can be seen the fighter is still intelligently defending himself, His corner didn't throw a towel or yell Stop it....... I can imagine a whole other group of fans screaming Herb stopped it to early if he had of jumped in sooner.... I like the call personally.......... There has been WAY WAY worse...
