Hello John and Richard, my son and I enjoyed this episode because you were speaking about estate planning. It’s very funny because my eight-year-old is already asking me. Can i have your comic books when I’m no longer here. I might expect that from my older children, but I never expected him to have such foresight. He especially wants my entire run of the original marvel transformers. It will be interesting to see how long I can keep him interested in comics with all the electronics that are out there. I am sure that my other children see the dollar signs when thinking about my books, but I think my young guy will win out being that he’s a collector. Very interesting what you triggered with this episode I guess I have to rethink my will.

That issue of Teen-Age Romance is dated Nov 61, the very same month Stan & Jack introduced the Fantastic Four. The final issue was the Mar 62 issue, and the book was cancelled to make room on the schedule for The Incredible Hulk 1.

I happen to be a big fan of facsimile copies of books. They’re awesome placeholders in the collection box for books that I either have slabbed and up on the wall (or the slab box), or have yet to purchase. I’m sure that I’m not alone in my mildly irritated state when I sift through a full run of something, only for the key books to be missing because they’re in a slab. Facsimile copies perfectly placate my restlessness surrounding a broken sequence.

Dropping in to say thanks as always for a great show, this has been mandatory weekly viewing for me for I guess years now, over the past month I moved across country and got way behind on any routines of watching things, today is the first day to catch up and this episode is where I started, great to have a sense of normalcy after one of the strangest months of my life, congrats on the new books and keep up the excellent work!

I too love Dave Stevens' work, everything about his composition, facial expression, character stance, it just all works so well. Pop Kills, One-Fisted Tales, is there a common theme here Richard? DC's Bronze Age horror anthologies regularly boast beautiful covers by the likes of Bernie Wrightson and Neal Adams, have at least one very good story per issue and they are often where the first published writing or art by a future great can be found. I bought House Of Mystery 290-319 specifically for "I, Vampire" (and The Brave And The Bold 195 because I'm a completist). Guess the weight of our combined purchases wasn't enough to maintain the title, John. Web comics? Maybe a five minute segment per episode Richard highlighting an especially interesting or different one but no more than that. Paper comics have such a long and interesting history that despite the number of episodes of BMG, you've barely scratched the surface. And it's paper comics that I collect and enjoy.

That Teen-Age Romance #84 came out in the same month as.... FANTASTIC FOUR #1!!! It would have shared the same paper on the presses.

Greg Capullo has had his own style well separated from Todd for over a decade (when he started drawing Batman). It is a mix of his original work with Spawn style.

Richard...with my head hung in shame...I have One-Fisted Tales #s 1, 2, and 7 (for some reason). Although I do have some Cherry Poptarts as well, no One-Fisted #3, but now I'll have to look for it.

@@RichardBrown Any idea how CGC deals with the One-Fisted Tales covers (the "child safe" brown cover)? Do you know if they treat it as a double cover, i.e. the inside cover would be used to determine the grade?

Hey guys, another great show as usual. Nice plug for the Dave Steven doc, which I've known about for a while but haven't gotten around to myself yet (and I watch a LOT of movies). I don't know how much impact it's having on the comics though - from what I can tell not that many people have watched it. But it's hard to track that. I do know, though, that his covers do seem to be as hot as or hotter than ever now. Richard points out that Vanguard Illustrated 2 - I picked up three copies (probably 9-9.4 conservatively) for $36 including tax and shipping a couple of years ago and bought a couple of other things on eBay at the same time including the expensive Planet Comics. I'm really glad I did because they all seem to have gone up considerably. Really only the girl covers though - things like his Mr. Monster don't seem to be flying unless they're very high grade and slabbed, or signed. I really wish I'd gotten the Space Vixens and Elvira though, those are the two that elude me and keep getting more and more out of the range I want to pay for them. And good call on the bronze age horror. That's an area I've gotten interested in within the last 3 years and I've bid on a few auctions of lots but again the prices are rising past the point that I want to pay in most cases. I think I should probably just concentrate on one title, like maybe HOS from 81 to about 130 or so, which I think had the best covers overall, rather than getting obsessed with all the DC stuff.

Capullo hasn't been a part of the McFarlane/Spawn universe in a loooooong time. He went to DC for about a decade and was the main artist on Batman with Scott Snyder and the Dark Metal events. His McFarlane art style has more to do with Todd being his inker, then Danny Miki being his main inker and continuing that same style. I'm a big fan, and I hate to be the "ACTULY" guy, so just take this as a friendly update on Greg Capullo's career! 😅😅

on cerebus - It's sad that a creator who created over 300 issues of a comic has a property that doesn't garner respectable prices for collectibles within the industry.

Evidently being a one man show means the show stops when you do… not creating or partnering with a larger org to help renew the character and keep the concept relevant was a strategic decision on Dave’s part, one he made early on and stuck to… and one that brought the curtain down hard.
