    Hello Ahmad, I bought this unit a couple weeks a go and tested it at 20 amps on resistive load. It is warming up around same area than yours. I was questioning it the heat was generated by the relay or copper traces underneath. Your tests are confirming I should not rely on it for the sawmill I'm working on unless a fan makes all the difference. BTW, mine shows about 3 sec ramp up time (soft start) when I turn it on with the pot. I would not recommend to change motor direction without first turning the pot to 0 or off on a bigger motor. Tks for the video

    60A is a no go without active cooling. Some of these do come with an enclosure. For trolling motors that does a full draw at 30A I guess it's fine.

    Hey Ahmad, I'm using one of these controllers for a kid's power wheels toy vehicle. The problem I'm having is that the throttle pedal is just an on/off switch and I'm using the knob for speed control. In this case once the throttle pedal is released the car brakes violently because the controller shorts the motor windings at rest. I believe I could use a power resistor between the 2 pins normally shorted at rest on the relay to soften this? With there being 2 relays on this controller due to the forward/reverse selector do you know how/where to put the resistor so that it would brake softly in both directions? Thanks!

    I haven't tried this particular model yet but I have used a bunch of similar PWM controllers. I keep ordering bigger ones as I blow them up pushing too much current in my wild quest for speed. I have made an electric wheelbarrow, bike and canoe motor so far. Biggest problem is that the ground trace heats up so much on the bottom that the smaller traces on the top delaminate, killing the circuit. Ones without fuses can be taken out by stall current and back EMF. I really wish there was a properly robust and well designed option available. The combination of high current and heat in close proximity to tiny SMD parts is bad design that is perpetuated through all of these devices, IMHO. Modern manufacturing styles. The higher current versions simply add parallel mosfets and then a fan, which is a "cludge" attempt to keep the PCB from melting down. That being said, when I used them more conservatively I had more luck. Just a normal electronics tech making motorized things for my own enjoyment, waffling on to nobody!

  • @robojax

    @robojax

    Жыл бұрын

    thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree with you. this is just putting multiple mosfets in parallel. The proper design probably would need only 1 or 2 of these mosfets with proper heatsink. Good luck with your projects.

I'm thinking about potting one of these "60A" units in an anodized aluminum enclosure and clamping it to the motor shaft for liquid cooling. A fan is not an option for wet saltwater environment..
