What Naruto failed everytime was the Clone jutsu, not the Shadow Clone jutsu. That was either a translation error or just an oversight. Like you rightly said, Shadow Clone jutsu is forbidden and is a Jonin Level jutsu. They don't teach those to academy students. The clone jutsu produces clones that are more like illusions.

The various forms of clones are poorly explained in the dubbed version. The test specifically required the execution of normal clones. Normal clones are imitations and lack considerable strength; additionally, observers can easily discern them due to their lower/weaker chakra, approximately 5% per normal clone. For instance, if someone creates two normal clones, there would be two clones with diminished chakra and one with the remaining amount. Contrarily, what Naruto employs are shadow clones-literal replicas of himself, each endowed with an equal share of chakra. When Naruto produces a shadow clone, the chakra is evenly distributed among them, making it more challenging to identify the authentic Naruto. The prohibition of this technique is attributed to the equal distribution of chakra; individuals with limited chakra can rapidly deplete their reserves, risking potential harm or death. However, Naruto, possessing an extraordinary amount of chakra, is immune to such dangers. In the dubbed version, there is a misconception as almost all clones are referred to as shadow clones, which is inaccurate. (I apologize for the extensive text, but I hope this clarifies the distinction.) :)

I've never understood why reaction videos are so popular despite watching a good amount of them, but your videos make it crystal clear. I've seen this show probably 3 times already, but these videos really make it feel like I'm sharing something with a friend and seeing them enjoy it the way I did the first time. It really recaptures the magic. You're doing really well dude. Keep it up. Can't wait for the next arc. The Konoha Crush Arc is one of my favorites, and one of the most criminally underrated arcs in all of Naruto.

For the clone jutsu stuff, to put it into Dragonball terms: The clone jutsu is the more basic, creating only images. It's more like the afterimage technique. The shadow clone jutsu is way more advanced, it creates actual physical copies. It's more similar to the multiform techniqie

To add to this the multi shadow clone technique is a Jonin level AND a forbidden technique. Something I think they just forget about by this point in the series but he literally stole the technique from a scroll of forbidden knowledge. My assumption to why the technique itself is forbidden is because since these are physical temporary bodies they disperse the users chakra so thin that it’s dangerous for an ordinary ninja to use.

"How are we gonna get through the whole tournament?" That's the neat part...we don't.😉

Something which most people don’t think about when talking about the Hyuuga incident is the fact that Cloud is definitely stronger than Leaf right now. Konoha lost a lot of Ninja from the Nine Tails attack. Not to mention losing the fourth Hokage also just makes them look weak. Most of the other nations are also not at peak strength as we’ll come to learn later cuz of the events that’ll be explained later. Cloud hasn’t suffered any major losses recently and Leaf couldn’t afford to piss them off and go to war right now. So the Hyuuga thing makes more sense when you look at it from the context that Leaf is weaker than Cloud right now.

True, and the Leaf also lost the Unchiha clan - its most powerful clan. The Leaf is in one of its weakest states ever. The Leaf is also so weak that even the weakest military out of the 5 great nations - the Sand Village's military is trying to take on the Leaf, well with the help of the Sound Village (which is even weaker).

FUN FACT: The "Caged Bird" symbol that Neji has on his forehead like a curse is different in the manga. In the manga, the Manji Symbol is shown, which in Asian nations is a symbol of prosperity, health and good luck. The controversy related to that Manji symbol in the manga broke out when the manga appeared in the West, which is why the symbol had to be changed in the anime, because what the Japanese see as Manji, we in the West see as the Nazi Swastika. Neji literally wears a Swastika on his forehead in the manga.

That's just weird. It's like there's a concentrated effort to _keep_ the symbol associated with Nazis. It wasn't even theirs to begin with. They just yoinked it, rotated it 45 degrees, and slapped it on all of their iconography.

Shikamaru was actually one of Naruto’s first friends. He didn’t give a shit about what everyone told him or why people thought they should hate him. They would just chill at the playground.

That's correct. Clone Jutsu is a beginner level jutsu taught to all ninja in formation (Bunshin). Shadow Clone (Kage Bunshin) is a high level technique that means creating a solid, independant double out of "Shadow", its a difficult technique, and the only other ninja we see do it up to this point are Kakashi and Sarutobi. Other tribes and ninja have different clones, water, sand, mud, etc.

Honestly, I never understood how Gaara was still allowed to just roam free and participate in the Exams after he outright tried to murder Lee not only in front of 2 Genin, but also one Jonin.

You must understand that the cloud ninja was on an espionage mission. Capturing a Byakugan so they can study it would give the Lightning country a huge advantage over Konoha. The result of not caving in would have been all-out war between the two countries.

More importantly is that the Leaf would not have been able to prove that they killed him because he tried to kidnap Hinata. All any third party knows for certain is that the Leaf killed a high ranking Cloud official, not the reason for it.

The biggest thing to know about the Hokage not wanting to enter into was with the lightning village, is that the Hokage had lived through multiple shinobi world wars. In addition to that, he was an old man who had already retired once. Then take into account the attack by the 9-Tails, and Konoha really wasn’t ready for a war, either mentally or tactically.

Kakashi actually did cut lightning in half before it hit the ground. At this point in the series he is a lightning-timer in terms of speed.

Neji is pretty damn cool. And he has some of the best character development out of Naruto’s class

In shinto lore, a man named Dōsetsu used a sword called Chidori to cut a lightning bolt in half, killing the lightning god inside. Afterwards, he renamed the sword Raikiri (lightning blade in english). That's why Kakashi's Chidori was renamed after cutting lightning in half.

You forget, even if you lose the Chunin exams you can still pass based on your performance

Idk if they explained it in the show or not at this point, but I think one of the reasons the Leaf Village folded to the Land of Lightning so fast was because they just got out of a war previously, then had the Nine Tails attack them shortly after, so even at that time when Neji was an even younger kid, the village was still recovering, so they couldn't afford another war and figured one life or the entire village.

Pretty sure Naruto saying he failed the Shadow Clone test was an error. It was the normal Clone jutsu the test was on. Shadow Clone Jutsu is a Forbidden jutsu, but to my understanding, it's forbidden for anyone under Jonin level to learn it, that or it was banned very recently in history, so its possible others know of it. It is definitely more of Narutos' move now (seeing as he can make hundreds of them). That part was a little confusing to me as well

Btw shadow clone Jujutsu isn’t forbidden multi shadow clone jujitsu is forbidden because for most people it take to much chakra and will kill them

Regarding the Hyuuga-incident with the Land of Lightning: keep in mind, the reason the Head Cloud Ninja was in the Leaf in the first place, was to sign a Peace Treaty. In other words, they had just finished fighting a war. Also this was just three years after the Nine-Tails attack, in which the Leaf lost a large number of their ninjas, including the Fourth Hokage. The Leaf plain and simply didn't have the manpower to continue fighting a war. That said, you're right. One of the main overarching themes of the series, is that peace bought at the cost of bloodshed, lies and manipulation is not real peace.

I discovered your channel with your Naruto reactions, and as a huge Naruto fan (grew up with the series), seeing you discovering the anime and reacting to it is priceless. Love to see that you are enjoying it, and hope you will continue to enjoy it until the end. For me, the anime is really flawless, every arc is better than the previous one and it really has moments that hits you right in the guts and can get you emotional. Shipuden is also great, but only if you remove all the fillers, and there are a ton of them compared to Naruto, where you have one filler arc in the middle of the anime and then all the other fillers are added after the main story, so you can watch it as a bonus or not.

Sakura was always good at distinguishing genjutsu from reality. At least after the first training lesson. In og Naruto her main strong points are her defense against genjutsu, her amazing chakra control, and she is very smart. These characteristics carry into Shippuden obviously as well. She is actually my fav female character in Shippuden.

about nejis dads sacrifice, if the village was to go to war with the land of lightning then the end result would be terrible for the village because they would have less soldiers due to casualties and in doing so other villages can invade a weakened konoha.

So afew things to note: 1, why gaara wasnt thrown in jail: You gotta keep in mind that gaara is the kazekages son. In the sand village the kage line is more bloodline based unlike the leaf so gaara is in a way royalty hence why they couldnt just detain him. In other words, political reasons. 2, the cloud village situation: Keep in mind at the time that happened konoha had just gotten out of a war, lost the fourth hokage, lost MANY shinobi to the nine tailed fox attack, and just the fact that the cloud village is/was stronger then konoha. They would've no doubt lost as they didnt have the means to start or finish a war. Also the fact that the third hokage had lived through, fought, and led in THREE major wars before this... he was tired. Going to war with the cloud would've been unbelievably stupid and it was better to sacrifice one life vs the life of everyone in the village. One more thing, gaara is one of the most beloved, well written/developed characters in the show. You will learn his backstory in this upcoming ark (konaha crush ark) and even if you feel no sympathy for him now, trust me, you will. I find it funny that you keep calling gaara a serial killer cause, they're ninjas, they kill. Kakashi and gai probably have a even higher body count then him and it was the forest of death and they did sign a concent form for that reason so... Not saying gaara wasnt psycho, but if you're gonna call him a serial killer then you should also call all the chunin, jonin, kages, anbu, etc serial killers too. Just found that amusing.

You are similar to me I was a Dragon Ball fan since 5 y.o until I founded Naruto and my life changed. This is the best anime that I have ever seen fighting scenes, drama, sadness, every emotion all in this anime.

Honestly, the best xmas gift, watching naruto with a buddy. I've been looking forward to you watching the naruto v neji fight. Honestly i had similar reactions when i watched it for the first time. I hope you plan to watch the full series, and shipuden as well. There are so many good fights in shipuden, like gara v kimimaru, lee v kimimaru, like 3 different naruto v saskue. Not to mention some bigger fights like guy v kisame, and saskue v itachi. Honestly every fight with itachi is amazing. I've been really enjoying following along with your reaction series to naruto and one piece. They're two of my favorite shows that none of my other friends watch so it's really nice to feel like i have somebody to share my favorite shows with. Keep up the amazing work! 26:51 Yes, this is another dub mistake. In the academy (and beginning of the show) students are meant to show capacity for regular Clone Jutsu (E-rank jutsu), which creates immaterial illusory clones that are only really good for confusing the enemy. In the original, Naruto says that he failed to do Clone Jutsu, not Shadow Clones, which are high level (B-rank jutsu) material duplicates that can fight for you (by splitting the chakra between the clones). That's why you can often see characters being surprised by Naruto being able to pull it off, especially in such a high number. Also originally, the phrase before calling upon Nine-Tails chakra was: "It's because you... called me a failure!" And then the one before the clash was: Naruto: "I don't know what 'Hyuga destiny of hatred' is... but if you’re going to say it’s futile, you don’t have to do anything! When i become Hokage..." Neji: "I need to use Rotation" **clash** Naruto: "...i will change Hyuga!" 32:47 I think, the idea there was more like "I learned what people who believe that they can change their destiny could do, so i will try to do the same and become stronger". 40:35 It's the same in the original and i'm pretty sure in the manga too. But i will just blatantly call this out, IQ is a scale that doesn't go beyond 200 (and IQ in general is bullshit measure for intelligence, but that's besides the point). 1:02:49 Do that. Ultimate Ninja Storm series is one of the best fighting games. Period. In my opinion. Playing Storm 2 right now actually.

Also I think people can only do one normal clone and normal clones can't attack even if they are a substitute that isn't a person. I could be wrong though. *Very Minor Vague Spoiler Alert* Shadow Clones have a special link with the user that other clones don't have.

And in the beginning, Iruka mentioned that other students were able to produce at least two clones, while Naruto could barely do a bad one. > "Shadow Clones have a special link with the user that other clones don't have." I think many other Clones can do that, just not basic sort. I feel like Water Clones are about the same as Shadow Clones in terms of abilities, though i might've forgotten something.

Clone technique explanation: Clone technique -Illusion images, Basic Shadow clone - physical copies, more advanced Multi-shadow clone - A f ton of shadow clones. Forbidden technique, because it would drain so much chakra it could kill you. Naruto just has so much chakra naturally (even without the fox) that he can use it without issue.

They didin't change the line "because people called me a failure, i'll prove them wrong", Naruto punched Neji so hard, he's probably remembering the alternative version with probably lots of alternative conversation's he had throughout that day XD
