Great video! Thank you for showing multiple modes and what they actually do rather then just saying, 'This is the threshold, this is the ratio, you see.'
Thanks for all your reviews! I use them for ham radio. Your work means a lot to me to learn them. 73’s from Oregon! Larry de K7HN
Thanks very much fir this! Some bookmarks for me: Features 0:54 The Special 1:47 (Kick in negative mode): 6:10 Kick 4:37 Snare 7:09 Bass 9:24
I have a 160 XT. Keeping that unit forever!
Man, you have really come a long way in the last few years. I've watched your videos from the beginning, because you were one of the only channels that talked about analog routing. I bought a Tascam M3500 and didn't know where to start, but you really helped me out. Thanks for your videos, and I also dig the accent.

Thanks man! Glad my videos could help you! Have fun mixing with the Tascam!
very enjoyable video, thanks man
I have the waves plugin and this was pretty useful to watch. i'm a newb at using these compressors that don't have attack dials.
Cool video. Very informative. Thanks alot.
Marcus Miller gave a fantastic interview on the Sweetwater channel, and he talked about the DBX 160.
Kind of a cool band youve got playing there...
Great video!! Can u do a DBX vs RNC on drums? :) Maybe add other sources and make a long video 😊
Thanks. Been looking on eBay for it for some time, to add to my studio rack.

You‘re welcome. Got mine also used, for half the price of a new one :)
Good video. How do you compare with 165A the sound thx.
Great man..any use in records for art power plant? I have one too
i hate the sound of the alesis you have the top of your rack, but i heard that you can replace something or mod them in some way and make them awesome. curious if anyone here has done that.
I noticed Guitar Center has tons of DBX units fairly cheap, which one would be good for general recording especially for recording DJ mixes? Don't want to squash the mix just even out the peaks when overlapping multiple songs.

I'd look into an FMR RNLA or RNC
Which compressors would you recommend for guitars and keyboards?
Nice video (as always) Marty. Would you know the difference between the DBX 160A, 160X and 160XT. They all look similar. I am having a problem finding out. Thanks as always. Philip NYC area

Thank you! Not really, as far as I know they changed the internal signal paths and connectors slightly from version to version. XT for example has XLR inputs. The original version was the 160, then 165, 160X and 160XT. The 160 and the XT are probably the most famous ones, you pretty much see them in all bigger studios. The 160A was the newest rendition, but meanwhile also discontinued.

@@ZedMartyProduction Thanks for that info Marty. I'd like to get a least two of these units, I'll just have to decide which to buy. I do know that I am very happy with the two vintage DBX 166 compressors and I have since the early 1990s...(30 years basically)....Be well. Phil
Hi. How can i connect this to a Bluetooth transmitter/receiver and hook it up to a keyboard amplifier combo?
the negative ratio reminds me of the 'hotel california' bass drum
But sir you also turned on other elements, can I hear only compressor? Please and blessings!
what are you using to mount those reallly nice compressors on your rack??

where are the samples to download?
The only thing to watch out with the 160a or 560a etc is that you can very easily increase peak level with it despite getting a nice sound, which obviously isn't ideal for containing dynamics. It's because it has a reasonably slow attack time which explains the nice punch but will often increase peaks rather than decreasing them. Some saturation or clipping to follow it is often necessary.
bass had a nice tone!!

Hi nice video. Can please make comparison between warm audio 1176 vs dbx 160a. Thx .
Hello, is that a Alessis 3630 compressor in your rack? And if so how would you compare it to the DBX 160A Compressor/Limiter?
How do these units perform on percussion?
Do you like this dbx more than your fmr rnc ???
@ZedMartyProduction

Depends on the source. On Bass dbx, RNC on guitars or instrument Bus.

Zed Marty Production tnks for your answer , what about vocals ?
@ZedMartyProduction
6 жыл бұрын
On vocals I like to have a little more control (attack, release), so I favor the RNC there.

got it , tnks so mutch , and great reviews as always man , regards.
how does it compare to FMR comps?
@ZedMartyProduction
6 жыл бұрын
The FMR comps are more neutral sounding especially when doing more compression. The dbx has quite a signature sound and you can really hear the compression. Great for Bass or Vocals.

@@ZedMartyProduction I'm using pretty much the same thing. I have two dbx 160A's and two RNC's. I can't ever decide which one I want to use for what.

Is your DBX 160 a made in China, or Made in USA?
