The "musicianship" and traditional phrasing beyond his years. Some of the legends like Jack Dejohnette, Rufus "Speedy" Jones and even Buddy Rich would have been smiling broadly! Dana hawkins has always been a quiet beast kit and has a great touch. He doesnt have to beat the drums into submission amd he has control and is very smooth and tasteful

There go Dana! Man I remember the first time I heard him play I was blown away. Now I'm reminiscing back when Cafe 290 in ATL was the place to be on Sunday night. Jam Session was all that. THIS GUY IS AMAZING.

It's because he's always working. He's toured with Esperanza Spalding and some jazz people. He's a fire bassist as well, he's by no means one dimensional. He's pretty well known among drum heads.
