dB Drop for Sizing Crack Height
Ғылым және технология
Just say no to crack (sizing with dB drop)
I had a few folks out of the blue ask me about dB drop for height sizing. For manufactured, perfectly planar sidewall lack of fusion? Meh, you might get repeatable results, but repeatable doesn't mean accurate. For cracks? Wildly innacurate.
Once you get used to seeing messy crack signals on phased array, the futility of dB drop for height sizing becomes apparent. Speaking of a parent, my youngest chirped up on this one, and I got to show off my dorky fake band shirt and collection of signatures from the recent NDTMA 2023 show in Las Vegas.

@@hollowayndtengineeringinc.5201 sir but my seniors told me that the height and length of a detect can be found using manual UT but the width cannot be detected using manual UT. So can you explain if measuring the width is possible or not?
The corner method is the most accurate to measure the height of cracks, but it presents a problem with indications smaller than 1 mm.

I think if you look at that PAUT image, you can see how unreliable using the corner trap is.
