It happens man, it could have also been damaged during the shipping process that’s why some people have the issue so early on even if they were careful with their device. Hopefully they have something set up for this because I assume they knew this would be an issue and are able to renew or just ship new ones out to people who send it in. Hopefully they give ya priority for when the new ones start to ship. Great video though and glad you’re being honest about the flaws.

I'm gutted for you matey!! I hope it gets sorted for you with minimal pain!! Mine is fine so far after a week of very heavy use but I'm worried now after seeing a few folks having problems...

When this thing was first announced, one of my biggest concerns was about stick drift. If they had made them replaceable like the Edge controller, I would've been more in favor of getting it. Hopefully they make that and other new features available in a new and improved version in the future.

3 years with my PS5 Japan Launch version, no drift no damage at any joystick.

My issue with it is that they should’ve just done a true direct connection with the PS5. The Remote Play should just be a bonus but if you are around the house in a decent vicinity it should be directly connected, not through a router. I’m wondering if this would still be possible or would it have to be a different version of it with upgraded internals to achieve it. 🧐

That would need new ps5 version since ps5 don’t have a wireless transmitter. That’s why headsets need dongle to do 2.4ghz. Controllers use Bluetooth with would be bad lag for transmitting video. Even Google stadia controller used WiFi for lower latency

There would be no point in this at all. Your PS5 is most likely not in the best location for the best wireless signal. Nor would it be as capable at providing a powerful wireless signal as a WiFi router/AP. The PS5 has an Ethernet port so you can plug it directly to a router with 0.1ms latency to your WiFi access point. Anyone having connection issues just hasn't separated the 5 GHz AP from the 2.4 GHz AP. You need to choose a 5 GHz connection to get low latency, and that requires close proximity to the access point.

Both ps5 and portal have WiFi 5. They probably could of designed it where ps5 served as ad hok network for the portal to directly connect but most likely opted not to go this route due to due to performance or reliability of the ps5 handling both the hardware and the network tasks as a server at this time. Or maybe they already planning to push cloud handling on their end in the future and push in that direction.

Damn this is crazy, it hasn't even been a full week for you, yours came late! First thing I would do is factory reset the device if you haven't already. Sometimes, these things could be software related.

Sorry to hear about the joystick. That was literally my biggest issue with the system was the fact they didnt do better on the joysticks. Or at least make them easy to replace like the duelsense edge.

Had a similar issue, restarted the portal and it worked fine since. Hope you get a fix soon

Your video popped up on my feed 2 times for the PlayStation Portal. Likes your style of really pointing out everything I decided to subscribe. I’m looking forward to mine for Christmas. Also want to see how the thumbs sticks get fixed whether it’s a software or sending it back for repair/replacement.

The only issue I found on mine is my joystick accidentally clicks down when I'm not trying to press down r3. (I think it's because of how loose the new sticks are) everything else is working fine for me. People are expecting too much from a ACCESSORY this isn't meant to be played outdoors. I think the fact that its handheld people have Portable expectations. For $200 I'm extremely happy with my casual gaming around the house. Traveling with it is just a bonus.

As anyone who has owned a ps5 for at least a year and play regularly, I’m sure stick drift was our first concern about the portal when we noticed the thumbsticks weren’t replaceable.

I noticed that when I use the portal, I have to turn off HDR. HDR will lag the portal and make it harder to see. You may have to turn off HDR in the options for the game you are playing in order to get a better picture and no lag on the Portal. The lights stay on depending on what game you play. It's really cool, cause if you play Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries the blue light bar flashes red when you are hit. So, it's not just a blue color. I wonder how many colors it does have.

Mad props to the transparency! I am mildly interested in the device but it's great to see the problems and the enjoyment people are having.

Sounds like a potentiometer issue in the analog stick, but could be a number of things. When those wear down, that's what causes stick drift so if it stopped working, it's gotta be something like that but more serious.

Same thing happened to me. I’ve had to return mine and can only get back in line with the next launch. So unfortunate because I honestly love this system. It’s awesome! But they need to fix the issues. Good luck with your search for another portable!

I have 1TB wifi and my PS5 is hard wired in, haven’t had any issues, my portal works flawlessly.

One of my sticks went out then came back online. Weird. Also while researching reddit, someone had mentioned the sticks working fine when not connected to the network. Was wondering of other affected folks noticed this issue too. Or dumb question: is there a possibility it could be a software issue??

I love my portal but I had the left stick weirdly snap when you pull it down or go over the centre vertically, out of the box, which combined with the inevitable micro lag and the different resistance of the sticks, made precise inputs impossible for me.

The thing with remote play is it dosnt rely on download speeds the most important factor is upload speed for the ps5 and download speed for wtv device your choosing to stream from weather it's the portal or your phone. Bassicly the ps5 uploads the file while the portal downloads everything so if you want very smooth performance you need to make sure your upload speed is atleast 50mbs.

Local network upload speed, NOT internet upload, unless you use the portal outside your house/network.

@@positoxav that's exacly what I'm saying... For smooth remote play upload speed is importent outside of household but if your download is not good outside of household it would be jsut as bad. What I'm saying you an have the best download speed but with scrappy upload remote play sucks. It's just like when you live stream it's the upload that s important for that and not download.

I don’t have a portal yet, but internet speed shouldn’t really be an issue according to the recommended requirements which are actually pretty low and almost every home with internet should meet those requirements with no issue. However an issue which could vary would be signal strength which would depend mostly on your internet hardware(modem/router). Now if your signal strength is weak then that can go hand in hand with how much speed your getting too.

this is to be expected.... me and my boy got the vr2 when it dropped and his stopped powering on after 1 use. My portal is so far so good i'm sure playstation will make it right... definitely frustrating to have to wait in the middle of the hype. good luck to ya thanks for the content. I saw a guy brake one down already and the analog sticks seem to be pretty easy to replace... kinda silly they didn't add some kind of tech where it could be replaced or customized similar to the new edge. Buying launch stuff is like playing Russian Roulette... all the old heads know that.

Aye. I don’t know if this is right but i’ve been having the same issue with my Steam Deck using remote play. I wonder if remote play is broken and not the PS Portal.

Have you tried going into setting with he Dpad and reset the controller ? I feel most assume it's wireless and doesn't have its own setting but it does..

I really like the concept of this device however we’ve had connectivity issues since it’s arrival. My Wi-Fi surpasses the download and upload speeds but the lag is a serious issue. Some of the suggested solutions cost more money to implement. I like the device but it doesn’t seem to work well from my experience. It’s the exact same experience when using PlayStation remote play. I’m traveling for Thanksgiving and I’m curious to see how it works on a different wireless connection. I really enjoy watching your videos and the honest feedback that you give.

Try the following: On the PS5 turn off HDR, turn off 120hz (dont have it on auto), turn off VRR (one suggestion is to unplug the HDMI cable from teh PS5, but I think that works because it cannot figure out the 120hz mode as no TV is connected so turns that off, so turning it off in the PS5 settings may just be the same as doing that) Its better to use your PS5 wired to the router, however, if you must use Wifi make sure its using 5ghz Wifi Make sure Portal is using the 5ghz Wifi band also I'm really hoping at some point Sony will fix the above so that those settings are changed on/off depending on the device used.

You don’t need to upgrade your internet speed if your using it in your house. You may need to upgrade your router if it’s like old, but the only time you would really need the internet to be a factor is when your portal isn’t connected to your home network.

If you don't have at least a wifi 5 router you are behind the times. Wifi 6 is the standard an Wifi 7 will start rolling out full scale next year.

I've only used my Portal twice so far. I haven't had any problems yet, but I'll check today after work & also they should've had Adaptive Brightness from the jump

I have been playing mine and had no problems yet. I use it when my controller dies, or when I am using the TV for something else. I love it.

First @CKidM thanks for all of your videos! Let me be clear before I ask my question. I upgraded my PS5 by installing an SSD drive. Then, due to my library of games, I installed a Samsung 980 Pro SSD as an external drive. Now, exactly like my PS4, when in sleep mode and turning it on, i get the message "THE USB EXTENDED STORAGE DRIVE WASN'T REMOVED PROPERLY THE LAST TIME YOU USED IT". This message comes up on both my PS4 and PS5 with their extended drives. (ONLY WHEN IN REST MODE). The question... Is this likely to happen with the Playstation Portal when I connect it? Moreover, will it have an issue connecting? Don't still have yet answered this for me, nor was I given a workaround for this period on either of my systems.

With the Steam Deck, you can actually replace the joysticks with a hall sensor joysticks which I swapped on my Steam Deck.

Have you tried another remote play method to the same PS5 since your stick problem started?

Can you use the PlayStation portal on the PS five the one with the disc version , do you still have to have the disc in the console with all the games you play ?

Yes you still have to have the disc in the drive in order to play the game.

Maybe for the thumbsticks you could look for a bulky thumb grip to get that bigger feel

Few I’ll wait now till these get sorted lol got all the accessories for it but I was waiting till they in stock at work as I get discounts.

I have fiber 1000mbps in the home. Great video, but still undecided on if i am getting a portal or not.

For the most part my Portal has been running pretty smoothly. Only small thing I noticed was I sometimes get the “lost connection” ⚠️ symbol in the upper right corner even though my gameplay would remain very steady, no input lag or dip in framerate. It’ll pop in a few times and I’ll keep playing thinking “okay here’s when it’s going to start acting up..” but it never does 🤷🏻‍♂️. It’s a weird thing but I’m curious if anyone else has seen this

Stick drift on a product like this is a deal breaker! I've had multiple PS5 controllers develop stick drift over the last 2 years.

I’ve had a lot of problems with mine too but I am still playing it still having fun on it. There’s just a lot of issues. Hopefully they fix them all with updates but for a lot of people I would just wait until they do fix a lot of these issues because there is a lot of them.

The way I see it the light bars seem to be triggered from the games and have an adaptive feature from some kind of gane specific color code that doesn't necessarily coincide with the color shown on screen.

I'd love to get a lay of the land here. Ive been lucky ive been playing horizon zero dawn mostly since i got it (tested gran turismo and no more heroes 3 for like 5 minutes) and havent had any issues with sticks. To anyone with issues with the sticks what game(s) have have you been playing on it?

YES brother hope you are all good i've checked my portal and noticed some games light up the ambient lights street fighter lights up red and some other games light up green and others white also blue GT7 lights up blue then turns off

If u change your dns setting in ps5 to ur area or whatever so u get a better connection and i got covers screen protector skin and a case to carry and protect my portal if dropped

Hi Ckid. I watched your video and I have the same issue with my joystick too on my PlayStation portal. My left joystick doesn’t move up or down; it only moves left and right. I’m going to contact PlayStation. Hopefully, it’s something that is easily fixable. Please keep me posted with the outcome of this issue for you.

The internet speed doesn’t matter for local play. Bandwidth on your wireless router is what’s important for transmitting things on the same network.

Does the stick work in the Portal UI? Not the PS5 UI, but the Portal UI? That reddit thread you show is unrelated to your issue.

Damn sorry this happened to you. I remember when stick drift had the internet goin crazy. Ive had my switch since 2018 and my ps5 since 2021 no issues. But I hate that it’s still a thing for people in 2023.

There won't be much difference from a 500mbs to 1000mbps, if any due to the wifi technology in the Playstation Portal has limitations (wifi 5 i believe). It also all depends on your Wifi Signal and interference within your house and other Wifi devices/routers on difference channels. If packets are dropping on the Wireless you're going to experience more lag/framerate drop.... and my more factors. At the moment Wifi is so much better than 10 years ago and it's only going to get better, but for now it's like a 50/50 for people

@CKidM Don't feel bad. I preordered one through GameStop and they sold my preorder the same day I went in to pick it up. I'm still waiting for them to let me know when my new preorder comes in.

I love the system I just pray I don't have the drifting issue or any bug glitches but it's no different than all the handhelds I've ever had even the Nintendo DS handles were the joystick or the buttons working or where audio sound with sound like my speakers are blown out😅

Maybe hard to believe, but it's likely a software issue. Had that problem day 1 with psvr2 left joystick. One update later, and it was like it never happened.

@Gilber-lj7mv The March uodate. This was about 3 weeks after launch. This was a headset, dualsense, and sense controller update. I don't know which one did the trick, but after downloading all those updates, I gave it a shot again, and it was like it never happened.

I noticed the lights work fine when playing games too

Upgrade download speed for video. Upgrade upload speeds for to help with latency. People forget that upload matters too. Lots of residential ISPs can give you a butt load of download speed but barely any upload. Shop smart guys!

I had the same issue with the Rog Ally I got from Best buy. One week in I couldn't move the left stick up or down. I had to return it to Best buy.

I found something weird with streaming on my Portal or phone to my TV. If my TV is on any other HDMI than my PS5 then my Stream is dead slow. It works fine when it’s on the correct input. Why is this?

I have had mine from day one and haven't had any issues. That's the thing about electronic system you never know if you get a good one or bad. I enjoy mine all the time I play on my break and 35 min away from my system and work perfectly..

Other problem is, there is no official caring case. There is no official screen, protector, or anything for it. I don’t understand what PlayStation was thinking.

So, the reason I did not do a pre-order was due to my fear of stick drift. When I got the PS5, I, immediately, bought 4 other controllers (my household has 6 people who like to play). I had a black controller get stick drift within the first year of buying it. I replaced it with another black controller. Then, just about 3 weeks ago, all of the controllers except for one (including that newer black one) all started to get stick drift, at the same time!! I did attempt to fix all of the controller to no success. So, now, I have one PS controller. So, now, I am gonna slowly replace all of those controllers with a Hyper controller (which have Hall effect joysticks). All of that to say that I have been entertaining the idea of just getting the Lenovo Go device (which has Hall effect joysticks) and do a remote in to the PS5. Then, when I started to see all of the, original, positive reviews of the Portal, I started to reconsider …and had plans on getting the Portal. Now, however, that I see that joystick drift / failure is an issue with this Portal, I may go back to that Lenovo Go plan. I am still trying to keep an open mind but, consider how bad I have been burned with the joystick issues, I want to be smart.

Port Forwarding helped me with connectivity when away from my home network dramatically.

I haven’t had any issues so far also upgraded my Internet to fiber best love the portal does everything it does for me love the channel Ckid also can play all over my house no problem 💪

Mine are working just fine but I will say at times it feels like I just pressed L3 when I'm moving the stick. It's feels like a very small hang up in movement and there is an audible click/pop

In my situation I have the ps remote play on my phone I try it then it didn’t work because of the screen size then I also have it on my Samsung tablet but the connection was interrupted now I first wanted the portal should I get it of the problem I have on my phone and my tablet?
