Great quick breakdown of the Gem series! You definitely opened my eyes a bit to a couple that I was unsure if I wanted or not (the 6 and 7). I'll for sure be looking to add both of those to my collection.

Thanks Mike, it's a pleasure to share my enjoyment of puzzles to anyone who would tune in ;)

The Gem X is basically the Gem II without the one colored pieces reminiscent of the Master Skewb. The Gem I is a shapemod of the QiYi Clover Cube which is the Curvy Copter without corners. The Gem IV is a shapemod of the true Dino Skewb (not the mass produced DaYan version, also known as F Skewb). The Gem VIII is not a truncated Master Pyraminx since the little triangles of the Gem VIII are independent and also not stationary. And there is one thing that I need to point out (it's a pet peeve of mine): Twisty Puzzles are not complex. They are complicated.

You might have the world's most complete collection of cube puzzles. You could open a museum some day!

It cannot be transformed into the cube without curved cuts.It will also need 8 additional corner pieces.In a cube form it is a 3x3x3 curvy copter(unproportional). It is a hybrid of a gem 1(edge turning octahedron) and a jewel(truncated corner turning octahedron).It is a gem 2 without central centers and T-centers.

@Superantoniovivaldi El Cubitero has a 4-layer octahedral puzzle called “Octatero,” which has deep-cut ‘face’ turns but is otherwise a corner-turning octahedron. The Puzzle Artists also have a puzzle - the Hybrid Octahedron - that is a 4-layer octahedron that is corner-turning and face-turning, this time on the outer layers.

I’ve always enjoyed geometry but never studied the names of the shapes that you quoted. Do you have any sources for me to read up on this sort of geometry? How did you make your geometry pictures?

I believe The Puzzle Artists have a face and corner turning octahedron. I have it at home but can't check as I am on vacation

@@jacobcubing606 Dayan Gem 10 is sold everywhere as Gem 10. pCubes for instance has Gem 9 where it is a Truncated Master Little chop, very hard puzzle to make.

Day Gem six also goes with Pyraminx crystal.

It certainly has a similar look on some of the sides. However the Pyraminx crystal has more of a kilominx (dodecahedral) base while the Dayan Gem six has a cubic base.

At 1:33, you forgot the Truncated Dodecahedron.

Isn't the Gem X just a much easier version of the Gem II? It's missing the whole cross formation of pieces from each square face of the Gem II, but everything else is solved exactly the same way as it, except for maybe a parity issue at the end. What a ripoff from Dayan, lol.
