We were stationed in Augsburg for about 2 1/2 years when I was in the Army in the late 90s. It is a lovely town and we had so much fun living there. I really miss it. Later on, we got stationed in Wuerzburg for another 5 years. I often day dream of going back for a visit. Street food, riding trains, buses and street cars were always a lot of fun. They used to have what they called a schönes Wochenende ticket and you could travel on the trains as far as you could go from Friday night to Sunday. Great fun. In Augsburg, we'd get a Tages Karte or a Kinder und Mutter Karte and ride the buses and street cars all over town. Much better than trying to find somewhere to park. We liked the brezen and semmel brotchen, but they had the best donner kebabs down town. Thank you for doing this video. Very interesting. By the way, Wuerzburg with its river and fortress is interesting as is Rothenburg with it's medievil walled town.

It makes me so happy to see that you and Mr. German Man have visited my home town. It's weird but somehow nice to see the city from a stranger's point of view. I like to forget how beautiful and old Augsburg is. For me Füssen is definitely worth a daytrip, not only bc of Neuschwanstein, but also bc of the little towns around it with interesting places like the Zauberstuberl and also their architecture

I live in Dallas, TX and we're less than an hour away from the Oklahoma border where all the casino resorts are! I'm not much of a gambler myself so there's always Mineral Wells, a town about two hours west. There's a state landmark called Hell's Gate that hosts a Red Bull-sponsored event where people jump off the cliff into Possum Kingdom Lake. When I lived in Austin, Fredericksburg was a good city to visit on a day trip. It's got a ton of German heritage and was also the birthplace of Chester Nimitz, a Fleet Admiral from WWII.

Augsburg is a great place to study, to work - and to live. I suggest to make more daytrips to Augsburg. You just scratched the surface. You missed: Goldener Saal, Schätzlerpalais, Fuggerei, Mozarthaus, St. Moritz and hundred other churches, Synagoge, Plärrer (Volksfest), Kahnfahrt, Kuhsee, Siebentischwald, Botanischer Garten, Zoo, Wittelsbacher Park, Puppenkiste (+ Museum), Freilichtbühne, Hochablass und Eiskanal, Stadttheater, Parktheater, all the rich the beautiful surrounding and of course countles pubs, restaurants, a rich music/art scene...

A few months ago I spent some days in Augsburg with my Wife. It is a very histrorical city. The Fuggerei (a social project in Augsburg) and the catholic and protestant history are very interessting. After WW II Augsburg had two mayors (a catholic and a protestant) not to offend anyone. And there is also a Church half protestant half catholic. i also was facinated by the golden room in the city hall. I really enjoy that kind of day/ weekend trips. And you look like enjoying it the same :)

Wanted Adventure You can also visit Tegernsee. But it is near Spitzingsee. So maybe you can do both in one day. Or you can visit Ammersee and Starnbergersee. You see I love lakes. I think it is because of the weather. So hot in Munich. You also can go to Erdinger Therme. A wonderful swimming hall. And there are also great slips. Do you know Blombergbahn? You can have a little walk up to the "mountain" and on the top you have a area to climb al little bit. But look into Google. It knows everything. I don't know maybe you were there already. How long do you stay in Munich? Sorry for my very bad English. I hope you understood it.

Is called "Wesrterwald" with the "Siebengebirge", where u can find the "Dragon's Rock" where famous "Siegfried" of the "Niebelungen-Saga" had a fight with the dragon, and took a bath in his blood. Also to mention the "Loreley-Rock" part of the "Loreley-Saga" is very close.

The city's original name was "Augusta Vindelicorum". Dana, if you're a lover of city walls, make sure you see *Nördlingen* (140 km from MUC (cf. also Ines' recommendation below/I just saw it)), which has a medieval city wall. But not only that, you can literally surround the city on top of that wall - and if you're lucky you may even hear the "Turmrufer" at 10 p.m., if I'm not mistaken (anybody here from Nördlingen who knows more about it than I do?). Another place that has beautiful (needless to say, mostly medieval) architecture is *Dinkelsbühl* (170 km from MUC).

I'm going to put in a vote for Schweinfurt. It would make me so happy! My family lived there years...okay decades...ago when my dad was stationed there with the US Army. We lived off post so it felt like our cultural immersion was a bit more than if we'd lived on post with American neighbors. I was only 9 and 10 years old, but the experience made an impact that has stuck with me all these years...okay, a few decades. :)

Come to Ulm and go up the Ulmer Münster. The view from up there is pretty awesome. We do have a city wall to walk along too ;)

Maybe you could visit "Neuburg an der Donau". Every two years there is a "festival" called the "Schloßfest" and the next one is next year around the end of June. But in my opinion Neuburg is a beautiful small town even without the "Schloßfest". :)

Hi Dana, last year when I was in Germany (for a month) I took a day trip to regensburg which is like 1 and a half hours away from Munich by train. Regensburg is so pretty😍😍😍 especially the Dom St. Peter church (so pretty inside and outside) and the Steinerne Bruche (where there is amazing views of the Danube and the city). Also another place to do a day visit is the Chimsee. Oh my god Dana, this lake is amazing with many islands inside of the lake. There is even a castle on one of the lakes that resembles the palace of Versailles. I would strongly recommend going to the Chimsee. I hope you enjoy these places like I did!!!😍👌🏾😍👌🏾

Dana, you should visit Rothenburg ob der Tauber, not far away from Nuremberg. Was just there for a daytrip and it's such a lovely place. 😍

You have to visit Bayreuth. It's not as huge but it has some wonderful places like the Eremitage and nice old buildings. :)

You should really come to Ulm, it's such a beautiful city and just another 30 minutes from Augsburg. You can walk up the Ulmer Münster, enjoy the view, walk aside the Donau and head out for some other sights like the Metzgerturm. And if you get hungry ... the QMuh has the most delicious burgers I've ever had.

You should do a day trip (or an weekend trip, because it's a little distance to drive :D ) to the Nürburgring. Beautiful eifel mountains, an old castle, lots of storys and myths and of course: the worlds longest, exciting, most dangerous and most beautiful racetrack. Even my friends who are not interested in racing at all loved visiting the area :)

If you love city walls, you should check out my old home town TEMPLIN, it has a complete city wall and you can walk around the entire thing (from the inside), but the thing is, Templin is approx. 70 km northern of Berlin. So next time you're in Berlin for a couple of days, you should really think about going there for a day, it's a nice small town (there is also a train from Berlin to Templin)
