Day of the Dead in San Miguel de Allende

How is Day of the Dead celebrated in one of Mexico's most popular cities among expats? Does it still feel authentic? I went to celebrate the sacred holiday of Día de Muertos in one of the most beautiful towns in Mexico, San Miguel de Allende.
You may know that San Miguel de Allende is just an hour or so from my city of Querétaro. I knew that there was going to be a big celebration for Day of the Dead so I decided to come and enjoy the day and show you guys what it's really like.
San Miguel de Allende is one of the most popular destinations among people who want to move to Mexico or retire in Mexico. As a result, it has a significant expat population. I wanted to see how this special day is celebrated in this unique city.
Find out about how the large expat population in San Miguel de Allende has affected the city:

This is such a family-oriented video about the interconnectedness and making people think about how everyone has connections to people who died. Thanks for the video and the great explanation about the history of La Catrina.

Im from San Miguel, the traditional practices are actually declining given how the majority of the people who made San Miguel for what it is today and their traditions are being kicked out of San Miguel to make room for rich people. Theres still a few who continue the traditional practices but its not really the same anymore.😓 Love your video by the way and your narration! Awesome! ❤😊

Best regards, Robin: I would like to say something about the origin of the icon of the Mexican Day of the Dead: "La Catrina" by the famous Mexican printmaker, cartoon illustrator and lithographer José Guadalupe Posada. The image of a female skeleton is dressed in European outfit from his upper class time. She is offered as a satirical portrait of those Mexican natives who, Posada felt, were aspiring to adopt European aristocratic traditions in the Mexican pre-revolutionary era. So "La Catrina" has become an icon of this Mexican Day of the Dead. I invite you to know more about this author. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pox_rrpsgbSdqc4.html

I was in Oaxaca last weekend for the Day of the Dead ceremonies. It was similar to what you show in this video but the streets were much more crowded with people. Also there was a huge number of police on the streets. Even the Mexican National Guard could be seen all over the central part of the city. Maybe that's why I didn't see any trouble on the part of the people celebrating. I didn't see any drunk people stumbling around either. But I was in my hotel before midnight every night.

Great video!! I'm not sure why people complain some places in Mexico are no longer authentic. I've been to a few places in Mexico - all I will say is that the more authentic a place is the less there is to do, the worse the infrastructure, there little economic opportunity, but plenty of poverty.

You even mentioned a parade of Catrinas. Do you have a list or a schedule of all the events that are happening? I would really appreciate knowing because I want to attend. Thank you very much, Valentina
