ON LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:
As I continue to work to be a better person, I want to make sure the work and creative projects I make are never at the expense of others. The places I visit and the experiences I have, ESPECIALLY in this video, take place on unceded territory of Indigenous peoples. In solidarity with their struggle for sovereignty, I have included land acknowledgements below and within my video. But land acknowledgements aren't enough! So please check out the resources below on the Indigenous communities who lands I visited!
Tovaangar (Los Angeles basin, So. Channel Islands; UCLA)
We acknowledge the Tongva peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar (Los Angeles basin, So. Channel Islands) and we are grateful to be visitors on this land. We pay our respects to Honuukvetam (Ancestors), 'Ahiihirom (Elders), and 'eyoohiinkem (our relatives/relations) past, present and emerging.

Good morning. Love your channel. I just thought I would share I earned my MFA in creative writing. Big smile. Finally got that master’s degree. Now I'm on pins and needles waiting to see if I got accepted into the UC Mercedes Ph.D. program. Have a wonderful day. - Derrick

I love your videos so much! Thank you for informing us about all things academia, it truly helps me so much! My professor asked me if I would like to TA for her class and I felt like so honored and thought about you, like omg I cant believe she thinks I can do this! I'm really scared it's for Art History course and it's community college but I'm so honored to be thought of! I want to get a master's in Art History but the process is slow and the hurdles are many! Thank you for your videos you help me see it's possible! ❤

Belated congrats on finishing your TAship! In your explanation of why, I could really feel the honest intention to help people, I’m sure you’ve already affirmed ppl’s lives in so many ways. 💜How are you feeling about the defence of the phd aspect, are you nervous at all? P.S that was an entire bowl of sour cream with a side of chipotle

HAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAH! (@ the sour cream comment) I am dying!! My department does an oral defense before we are able to start writing and nothing afterwards! So luckily I don't have one.... though honestly at this point I don't think I would feel nervous cuz ... they know what I am writing and they haven't told me it was bad yet hahah so I feel like if I did have one, it would be pretty chill lol Thank you for the affirmation and support! You are always sooo kind!

I really enjoy following your journey. I'm doing my PhD in Iceland and it is very interesting to see the difference between the US and Iceland/Nordic countries. Congratulations on finishing your TAing. Are you interested in staying in academia and to teach? I'm and adjunct as well as a PhD student and I'm loving the teaching.

Thank you so much for such a kind comment!! I am working towards postdocs now, so after that I'll decide what I think might be best. But I do love teaching so much!!! Thats amazing that you can adjunct and study! It happens sometimes in the US but I wasn't able to do it! What's your research focus?
