    My Dad was a GP. He was a junior doctor in the 50s and a GP from around 1960 to 1990 (when he retired due to a heart problem). In the 60s he was in 2 man partnerships. He had to be on call 24*7 every other week as they weren't allowed to have others cover nights. He had to drive to work so he could do house calls in the afternoon.
