Day in the life of a Food Content Creator | Paris Vlog

Hey y'all, I decided to document a day in my life while in Paris. Recently, I've been feeling a little stressed. It's been difficult figuring out my production workflow in my day-to-day life, but I've also been having bigger thoughts on what I want to do with regard to the business, where I want to live, and what I want my content to look like. Documenting this day was actually pretty helpful in making me reflect on these things. I realize it's not my typical content, but hopefully, you can find some enjoyment in watching and if not, no worries, we'll be back to regular food/cooking content in the next video!

I was actually just thinking of this the other day because I have been undergoing some big time changes in my life: give yourself grace, Ethan. You may need to hear that now. You made to hear that later, maybe next week or next month. Doing difficult, challenging things brings stress, and it's good to pause and appreciate that you're doing it. It's not always easy or fun, but it's rewarding. You already know all of that. We just need to be reminded. Give yourself grace. And keep on doing what you're doing. We're all fans for a reason.

Hey Ethan, A tip for finding chicken thighs and fresh "exotic" produce like ginger for cheap is go to K-Mart Paris. It is a Korean/Japanese market that sells everything for those cuisines. So, they have a fresh produce section with usually hard to find vegetables and herbs that normal french supermarkets won't for even sometimes cheaper, and then they have a butcher section where they sell Asian style cuts of meat such as thinly sliced pork and beef. In that section, they sell both skin-on and skinless chicken thighs(Both boneless). Took me forever to find many ingredients in Paris (black beans are probably the hardest but they are there sometimes), but it just takes some digging. Good luck!

Hey Ethan, I lived in Paris for 3 years and it's totally okay to be stressed/overwhelmed by Paris! In fact, I moved out because it was too much for me. Just take your time to discover each district one by one, there are definitely some hidden gems and nice places to see. Also, you can find fresh ginger in most asian grocery stores of the 13th district (and maybe visit it, although a bit unusual for tourists). Great video, it brings back some memory :) thanks!

I experienced something similar when I lived in Singapore for a semester. For the first few weeks, it felt like a vacation; I wanted to see all the sites, and try everything. By the end of the first month, the excitement wore off and I started to find myself missing things from home, missing friends, and missing family. Add a different learning system and noticeably worse grades and I really started to feel like I made a huge mistake not only going there but with my degree choice. Looking back, it was definitely a bought of depression and a strong feeling of isolation. In the absence of a lot of things that were familiar, I started finding what was important to me. My family is very Italian-American, meaning we communicate heavily through food. There was not a like of great pasta in south-east Asia. What I found though, is lot of the foods I thought I would miss, I did not. Instead, I found that I missed dairy products and started eating a lot of yogurt or paneer in the Indian section of the city. Then found one of my favorite foods to this day, roti canai. It was the friends who I made there early on who would always ask me to come out who really helped me get past my issues to find something both new and familiar. I share this not to offer explicit advice to anyone but in the hopes that someone relates and it helps someone else. It meant a lot to me to have friends reach out to me when even when I turned them down repeatedly. It really changed my life both at the time and how I treat others. Much love and support from Texas, Ethan.

You know, Ethan: moving to a different city, any city or place, much more so in foreign city, is stressful in and of itself. This is one reason why so many vacationers experience fatigue after visiting a place and running around like crazy people trying to see and experience "everything". One simply needs time to be in a place and let the stress run its course into an ease and comfort. I have been amazed at your output since you arrived in Paris, but thinking to myself "He is going to burn out if he does not let up". As a viewer and lover of your content, I have to say that I was a little surprised that you kept your regular angle in Paris. That is not a criticism but merely an observation. The thing is: Paris is a whole other Universe when it comes to food and so I hope you can really take the time to soak that up and not feel pressured to crank out content for the sake of cranking out content. Be patient and kind to yourself. Your loyal viewers will understand.

From someone that's moved about and lived in a few different countries I find it can be really difficult cooking when new there since you don't have all the equipment and full pantry you might be used to and then it takes time to become accustomed to the supermarkets. Different brands, names of items, layout and prices makes shopping more interesting but also takes way longer and sometimes frustrating. Once you've been there a short time though it's surprising how quickly you get used to it all. I'm from the UK and found this a challenge in New Zealand, the US and Canada. It can make you think "how on earth do people shop and cook in this country" to begin with, but you soon realise there are both pros and cons in the differences between countries and you soon start to appreciate the pros and forgot about the cons.

Echoing some of the earlier comments, I'm personally here for your personality alongside the food, so its super interesting hearing about the thought process behind the content! Keep up the great work.

Love this video. Moving to a new location and getting acquainted with the space is such a unique experience - I appreciate being able to come along with you on the journey. This is the closest thing to traveling that I'll experience for a while 😌

I love these types of videos Ethan, so homey and relaxing, I feel like I'm there with you guys just chilling with you and your bro. haha. I imagine they'd be super tricky and exhausting to self-film though.

Would love to see more vlogs from you about your time in France. If travelling to a particular region for food purposes, I'd love to see a vlog of that and then a seperate recipe video

Paris is amazing in the summer. You'll have a great time! Living abroad is never easy, especially the first time. But it'll the best experience you've ever had. From a Frenchman living in Jersey City, take it easy 🤙🏻

The analytics part is so true, man. It's about the craft, not about the numbers. But it's so easy to get caught up the numbers, as we're only human. Much love!

I love your videos! It’s was especially fun to see the area in the Bois de Boulogne where I walk my dog daily - he loves to jump in the water of that little creek. I’m looking forward to the new videos.

I normally don’t comment on videos but I can’t get over how much I loved this video. It was so easy to watch yet so very elegant. It was also really interesting to see the productivity side your channel, whilst also making me feel a little guilty about how unproductive my day ways. Also that little window shot reminded me of the movie Ratatouille which is very fitting. Much love bro!

Hey Ethan! One thing you should consider if you're going to have a more robust website is that recipe websites are really make or break based on the Search Engine Optimization (trying to appear on google). This is why recipe sites have huge stories before the recipe, to try to show up in google searches. You can read more about how this works online. Just want to make sure you're aware of this. You'd have to write a huge amount of text for your recipes or accept that they won't be suggested on google. Not the best system, but it's what we live with.
