when my mom was 44 she had a stroke in the left side of her brain during her sleep. my aunts dog angel woke her up while it was happening and I honestly think that's what saved her life. she had all the signs: droopy face, double vision, slurred speech, trouble walking/paralysis on right side of body. but i was 10 years old and didn't know, she waited 48 hours to go to the ER but amazingly she was able to make a 100 percent recovery. it was an experience for sure but I learned so much so this vlog was really interesting to me!

Just a little side note if anyone is experiencing a stroke: It's always best to call an ambulance rather than driving yourself or have someone drive you because not all hospitals are stroke certified. This means there might not be a neurologist available or the hospital may not be equipped to handle stroke cases. Ambulances and paramedics are trained to know the nearest stroke certified hospitals so they can get you where you need to be so treatment isn't delayed! Depending on the type of stroke, the timing of treatment is essential as certain medications can only be given during a very specific window as in the cases of ischemic strokes and thrombolytics etc etc. Great content as always Siohban, keep up the hard work and thank you for being a wonderful doctor to your patients!!

I absolutely love your videos! I am a grade 12 student here in Hamilton and it's amazing to see the life of a resident here in my very own city (especially as I hope to be a doctor someday)! My question is: What did most of your colleagues do for their undergraduate degrees before medical school, and do you have any pre-med program recommendations? Thank you!

Another great video! I have a question. I had been in the hospital for two weeks due to pulmonary embolism, and I was diagnosed with hyper thyroid. I was also told that I have a 3.3 mm near my pituitary. What could cause me to get a pulmonary embolism? Now they tell me that I had three in the one big one was the one they were concerned about. I still have two left that’s why I’m on Xarelto. my tremors are crazy and I don’t know why I tremor. I feel very strange ever since the pulmonary embolism. Can’t stand a long time either.

I had a stroke this past July. It happened in a hospital. I had gone to the ER for severe shortness of breath, which turned out to be the result of congestive heart failure. I went into AFIB, and the fluctuations in BP caused a small hemorragic stroke. I don't really remember much, except my husband noticed I wasn't making sense when I talked. I'm okay now, except for some balance issues and a loss of dexterity in my left hand. My doctor tells me I should get more exercise :-(

I kind of have an idea, but what could a lumbar puncture show? I know that if the liquor is red it can mean bleeding and if it's not clear it could be an infection. Something else? And how would you do that procedure on me, my spinal cord is damaged from the Th12 level, spina bifida/myelomeningocele. You usually stick the needle under that level, right?

  • @felicityaeh

Stina Palm They test the spinal fluid, similar to how they test blood, and it shows certain things. Bacteria, inflammatory markers, and a load of other things can be found and that gives drs an idea of what’s going on!
