Day In My Life As a Painter & Decorator

In this video, you'll get a glimpse into my life as a painter and decorator as I show you the process of sanding, painting, and taping a room.
First things first, I moved all the furniture from the room, to give me space to work. To get the windowsills and skirting boards ready for painting, I used sandpaper to sand down any bumps and rough patches. This step is crucial to ensure the new paint adheres smoothly to the walls. Usually we would use a dustless sander.
Next, I applied ames tape to the edges of the walls, ensuring that I got straight and clean lines. Once the tape was in place, it was time to start painting. I chose a white trade contract matt paint and used a roller to apply the paint to the walls. I allowed the first coat to dry before applying a second
coat for a more even finish.
Some door frames required some filing you will see this process and a wee trade secret!
Overall, it was a satisfying day of work as a painter and decorator. I hope you enjoyed following along and learning about the process. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them below!

Nice vid mate , i will say pure bristle works far better than synthetics in oil based paint though, Corona do superb pure bristle brushes . Had Arroworthys before and they are decent but i prefer Monarch nowadays for my synthetics. Staalmeesters are brilliant brushes for water based paints on trim as well. Best to use a tack cloth on the cills as well to get remaining dust particles off . Keep up the good work 👍

What i don’t understand with the next gen painters, is why are you lot using an undercoat with oil eggshell/satin? If you’re looking for a decent acrylic woodwork finish, invest in some decent materials. I’ve used them all, but i always find myself going back to Helmi In conjunction with haftprimer

Great watch! I’d like some tips if you have any, I’m looking to get in to this trade but being 30 I can’t afford to take an apprenticeship and seemingly there is a lack of viable part time courses for painting and decorating, considering the work force shortage it’s crazy. What’s your advice on getting started?

It might have been a good brush but you don’t know how to look after it. If I had let my brushes get into that state when I was an apprentice, back in the 60’s I would have had my butt kicked by my boss. We never used masking tape on the bottom of skirting boards…we had to cut in properly.

As a professional decorator with 20 years experience, this tutorial contains so many faults. No sheets especially over the sink. your creating dust that is not being removed, your finish is terrible. And sort that brush out! you will get bits off that brush that will drag through the paint. Little tip for you- don’t use the same brush on your window boards and frames that you have used on the skirting boards. Terrible mate 😂
