Day 8-10 Detour to Marcel Proust’s Childhood Memories in Illiers-Combray, off the GR 655 from Paris

Over Days 8-10 I did a detour off the main pilgrim trail to visit Illiers-Combray where Marcel Proust set the beginning of his famous novel 'Remembrance of Things Past’.
This video is part of a series (see the playlist) covering my post COVID project to walk the medieval pilgrim's trail from Paris to Bordeaux. I did it in the Spring of 2023.
The whole walk took 47 days and my route was the GR 655 which recreates the medieval Via Turonensis or Voie de Tours. Today not many pilgrims take this trail and one can walk stretches of it in perfect solitude.
The full route takes you to the Spanish border, crosses the Pyrenees and joins the famous el Camino to Santiago. Ambitious walkers go all the way, a journey of 1800 kms.
I am posting videos explaining, day by day with images what the walk meant to me and could mean to others who might give it a try.
Here's the link to the introductory video of the series.

One has to infer that the initial stages of the various strands of the Camino Francés don't attract crowds of pilgrims because of the diminishing intensity of religious belief generally, and Catholic belief and numbers specifically. However, there's also the question of the destruction or mutilation of landmarks along the French étapes. . The partial demolition of the great pilgrimage church in Tours dedicated to a saint considered one of France's national saints, Saint Martin, must depress or disappoint some pilgrims considering the via Turonensis. The via Lemovicencis might suffer similarly from the complete demolition of the grand pilgrimage church in Limoges dedicated to Saint Martial.

I think you have a point. On this walk I didn’t really meet fellow pilgrims until I got to Tours and began the second half of my journey to Bordeaux. The first half of the journey from Paris to Tours had many beautiful monuments which include some ofFrance’s most famous tourist sites (Chartres, Blois, Amboise, Chenonceau). The second half was more spiritual and contemplative. When I get to this part of the journey it is going to be a little harder to produce videos because there will be less to “see” but the journey itself was more stirring - at least for me.
