Little Bear doesn’t just hike, she experiences, she notices everything, she getting so much more than just exercise. What she is learning on the trail is just as relevant as what she would be learning in school. She’s learning about responsibility, self reliance, and is becoming so confident that she will be far better able to deal with the challenges of growing up into a mature adult. This is a life lesson that is priceless.

Hey you two!! You’re both beautiful yo-na’ s… “Bear” in Cherokee..my Grandfather used this a lot. Thank you for capturing the Triple Crown( this was the loop my brother and I were going to do when I got Guillain Barre last October) Your videos are such a blessing for me. Rock formations are fascinating. Others may say they weren’t scared at all out there.. if this is true.. they shouldn’t be out there. Thank you for your “truth” always! Be safe.. forgive my jabber.. my love!!✌️🙂❤️❤️

Quadzilla is currently challenging himself with a $1000 budget for a nobo thru-hike of the AT. He's sharing town food and lodging costs with 2 friends and picking up what he can from hiker boxes. He's also received some trail magic, so that has saved him some. He's doing well with it so far, but he's only been out there a couple or 3 weeks. This is also his 3rd thru of the AT, and he just did the Te Arorora in NZ, so his pace is quicker than most people, he didn't have to build up to 20 mile days. He bought all budget gear, and even made some of it himself! Lodging and food is a big chunk of the budget *after* you've bought all your gear. If you don't have any dietary restrictions, you can keep some of that cost down, I'm planning to hike in 2028 when I've retired, and I have celiac disease, so food is always a much bigger cost and concern for me. I'll be looking at a much higher food budget for sure! I really hope that you can stop in NYC to see Swan Lake. Maybe if you start a "buy me a coffee " page, we could contribute? Tickets aren't cheap, and a hotel in NYC is crazy expensive! But it's a great experience 😊❤

So many wonderful views in today’s video ☺️ ☀️ Loved the Q&A❤ LB is such a wonderfully bright Ray of Sunshine ☀️ Her constant enthusiasm, even during the hard days, is so inspiring! I just turned 50 and seeing how positive LB is every day reminds me to take even the hard days as good day ❤ So sorry to hear that the General hurt his back 😢 Hopefully he will be able to return to the trail once his back is feeling better? I know this was at least a week ago (every day I hear you say what day number it is, and despite watching since day 0, my jaw drops that it’s already day “75”!😮) but I hope you both enjoyed your zero at the hotel In Town! 8 days without a zero is a long trek! Looking forward to more of your adventures! ❤ 🥾 🥾 ❤

Funny how off the trail, food and housing are significant expenses too. I loved your answer to "Is there anything that made you question being out there?" MB, LB: "No." What do bears do? They do hard things, and continue north. 😀 I got sap in my hair more than once as a child...and my Mama was not impressed. 😂 LB is becoming more of a thru hiker every day. She mentioned at the hotel that she kinda hoped the weather wouldn't be so good on your zero so it made more sense. 😊 I'm glad you got to talk to your family MB. 😮 Cat's out of the bag, what's up Ellie?! Hiker Hunger....Went into a Bojangles at about 1/3 way thru my hike and the only thing on the menu that looked fully satisfying was the dinner for four. Though I did have a little bit left over for breakfast the next day. Just realized you're not wearing any sort of gaiters. How are you keeping trail detritus out of your shoes? Just emptying them out at every break?

I appreciate your question answering videos and they make me think of my own questions. I'm curious about rides to town from your hostel. Are those rides covered as part of your cost of room? Or extra? If so, what kind of money are we talking? I'm also wondering about trail angels who provide rides. Do they charge? If so, what is a typical cost? Also, slack packing. I used to think that was a provided service as part of the room cost. Silly me. Not sure whose video I was watching, but I got the impression that slack packing isn't free. So what kinds of charges are typical. One more thing: can you imagine how much extremely hard work goes into building those electrical facilities? Starting with clearing the trees? Boggles my brain thinking about it.
@wildflowersadventures
16 күн бұрын
Sometimes a hostel will provide a ride into town as part of their fee. So, often, for $60, you will get a bunk, opportunity to do laundry, and a ride into town for resupply. Slackpacking is sometimes offered by the hostel, but there’s always a fee to and from the trailhead. The last one we did was $65 each way. If you have people to split the cost with, then it’s much more affordable.

Sometimes finances may have to dictate, because everyones budget is different and for some people the only way to do the trail is on a shoestring budget, because maybe when the time to hike is available to them, the budget is low, and if they wait until the money is there, the time may not be…there are many reasons why some may not be able to spend much time in a hotel or hostel or spend much on food off the trail.
@wildflowersadventures

The cost: I sort of find it sad how much of an up charge small places charge. I understand that they are trying to make a living, but sometimes it is triple the cost. Resupply can sometimes be tough. You were smart to have boxes sent.

I literally LOLed when you said you hadn't planned on LB eating like a grown man 😂 Inflation is horrible. Cost of eating out has risen so much in the last 2 years. Cost of all package foods as well. Hotels everywhere are up a lot as well. We travel a lot and have really seen the increases the last 3 years. Yes, we can hear the electricity. A "nero" when you start out is usually less than 4 or 5 miles which is close to or possibly just more than half your daily average so yes, as your daily average goes up so does a "nero." You're doing great.

At one time people figure the cost to hike the AT at $5000 a person but with everything costing more it could be $7000 to $8000 a person. If I had to cut out it would be a soft bed and a warm bath. But you need the food with all your bodies are burning up. When I used to tent camp I would have wipes to clean myself up each night.

You were definitely wise in saving up because it gets more expensive as you travel north. Glad you are taking advantage of town food because it really helps offset the calories lost on trail. You've got this. Keep shining bright.

Highlight: LB’s fidelity to the true steps of the trail ! Happy Zero!
I appreciate the cost of your hike info. LB unapologetically eating like a full grown man 😂That is a good thing! And I completely understand being on full alert while you sleep, because that is what momma bears do! Enjoy your rest.
MB you do such an efficient job of articulating your thoughts, especially explaining the answers during the Q and A sessions, that I think you should seriously consider writing a book when your hike is finished. And LB would be a tremendous help. I'm serious. Thank you. Kanati.

Thank you for the Q&A. I’ve often thought of how much more you are doing than the avg hiker. Mom’s rock and in this adventure you, Mama Bear, are beyond stellar! 🎉🙏. “I’m called Mama Bear for a reason”. Love it!

Smart Mama, I wouldn’t wear both earplugs either… not when I’m watching over my child. It’s smart to be aware of your surroundings
MB and LB thank you for taking the time to provide us with such wonderful videos, with loads of really interesting information. Like so many of your followers I love watching your progress and I think about you often. Love and hugs. R ❤❤

That was a great Q&A. Sometimes people surprise me with the depth of their questions and sometimes the questions are too personal, IMO. Little Bear is impressive.

Yes - when in NJ, I can drive you to resupply - FREE 🎉 I think the recaps of character builders and highlights are great for others hiking the trail as well - meaning that it's a great way to keep pace and keep things in perspective. Love that lb jogged herself to the trail magic... 🧺 And topped off with great food that you love, General time, and showers ...🎉
Lots of highlights today. And no character builders. What a great day. FaceTime with family. Getting to see the real furry Ellie. Wow. Beautiful forest today. Views were outstanding. Hope you enjoyed your zero. Take care. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.
So glad you are enjoying your zero day! That food looked amazing!! 😋😋. Rest and relax and then Hike On!! 🧗♀️🥾🏕️🎈❤️. You’re both doing GREAT. ❤️❤️😊
Beautiful boulder sections are definitely one of my favorites on the vlogs! Great hiking!😊
What a nice day for a hike. Glad you had lots of highlights… beautiful weather and beautiful views, surprise trail magic, face timing with family, dinner with the General, Japanese food, spacious hotel room. I hope you had a blessed night of sleep and enjoyed your zero the next day. G'nite Elle! Praying for a safe journey north.♥️
I love your videos so much; you show so many parts of the trail I have not seen in other hiker’s videos! I enjoy how investigative and experiential both of you are… it becomes contagious. Living the good life! Godspeed!😊
Rest and eat well Bears. ✌️🌲🐻🐻🐻🌲

Wow that was a huge mushroom… There is a movie called The Linemen I think but it is about the men and women who work those power lines and the dangers of that job. Wow it is crazy how dangerous a job it is … I always enjoy watching your journey. Have a restful couple days off
Wow making note of the motel for our SOBO. For Harper’s ferry we just stayed at the Quality Inn. Literally .2 from the trail and has everything you need. Great day. Happy trails.🤟🏻🥾🏔

Your videos are a pleasure to watch, so thank you for a pleasurable part of my wife and my day. Good luck and safety prayers for the remainder of your hike. Be sure you have big nets available to wear for New York and north . Most hikers in that area have had serious issues with gnats and mosquitoes.
Have a wonderful rest time on your zero day. I was watching an it look like little bear with sprinting to the trail magic, it was so cute. Have a wonderful day and a blessed beautiful night 😊😊😊
I would love to know how you managed the schooling thing with little bear? My son is turning 11 this year and were talking about coming through in 2026, but im unsure about how it works with him missing school? You guys are doing great!! You guys are absolute inspirations. I would have never even thought I could take my son with me, but watching you guys warms my heart! What an amazing experience!

I remember Mama Bear addressed this earlier. Little Bear has homeschooled and she worked ahead, so she won’t be behind. Plus she can do some of her schooling on trail. PLUS, like said above, she’s getting way more schooling on trail than she could possibly get in “regular life”.

Hi! I love following your progress and pray for you every day!❤❤ When you were talking about costs, you said twice: "it cost more that (you) thought", but you never said what the amount it was what you "thought". What was the amount you "thought"? 😊

Hello! I was referring to the individual costs of things (which of course reflects on the grand total). Just in general…food at grocery stores, restaurants, hostels, etc…how much we NEED to eat. It adds up quickly.

Such a great day again heading into town. Rest up and enjoy🌲👍
A clear day with some wonderful views.
I love watching yall! I am planning to thru next summer and you are making me beyond eager to get on trail!
What a nice trail magic surprise for you and your fiend in Daleville. Yeah it’s so nice to enjoy a zero in a nice hotel and get to eat great food. So relaxing and refreshing and very needed. I’m sure you’ve heard food and lodging gets even more expensive in the northeast mainly from New Jersey area thru Mass. Have fun just prepare for it in your mind. You guys are doing great 😊
Hiker Hunger....Went into a Bojangles at about 1/3 way thru my hike and the only thing on the menu that looked fully satisfying was the dinner for four. Though I did have a little bit left over for breakfast the next day. Just realized you're not wearing any sort of gaiters. How are you keeping trail detritus out of your shoes? Just emptying them out at every break?
..Good Morning Bears.. Another great day ,,beautiful weather and amazing views .. My gosh, where is LB putting all that food ?? Stay Safe and God Bless ...
What a great day!!! It seems like hikers eat alot of food! Gotta fill up to do all that walking. So food cost planning definitely should be doubled. Thanks for answering questions.
@wildflowersadventures
You're doing great! Keep it up! ❤and🔦
Sometimes finances may have to dictate, because everyones budget is different and for some people the only way to do the trail is on a shoestring budget, because maybe when the time to hike is available to them, the budget is low, and if they wait until the money is there, the time may not be…there are many reasons why some may not be able to spend much time in a hotel or hostel or spend much on food off the trail.
@wildflowersadventures
16 күн бұрын
I agree. Finances will always dictate what one can afford while on trail. I’m hoping to shed light on how finances will affect your experience. As long as one manages expectations, it will be just fine. 😊
Daleville rocks!
The cost: I sort of find it sad how much of an up charge small places charge. I understand that they are trying to make a living, but sometimes it is triple the cost. Resupply can sometimes be tough. You were smart to have boxes sent.
👑🥾
Who sets the pace? MB calling out slow down and LB stoping and giving MB the Look.:(

Hand sanitizer for tree sap🥰🥾🥾⛺️
I literally LOLed when you said you hadn't planned on LB eating like a grown man 😂 Inflation is horrible. Cost of eating out has risen so much in the last 2 years. Cost of all package foods as well. Hotels everywhere are up a lot as well. We travel a lot and have really seen the increases the last 3 years. Yes, we can hear the electricity. A "nero" when you start out is usually less than 4 or 5 miles which is close to or possibly just more than half your daily average so yes, as your daily average goes up so does a "nero." You're doing great.
I love following you both! You are such an inspiration ❤️ Question (if you have time)….how do you think the Big Agnes Tiger Wall is performing? I’m thinking I’d like to buy that tent!

Thank you. We’re so glad you’re here! I love our tent!! 100% recommend. It has felt solid in the many storms we’ve experienced. No leaks or issues whatsoever.
How are Little Bear’s shoes holding up? Are you still happy with the Hoka brand shoes?
Just a quick question….halfway through the video and is KZread revenue offsetting some of the cost? Will you be able to make back all of the money spent from the revenue?
Watching many people hike the AT in 2024 and rattlesnakes are plentiful this year. Keep little bear close especially as you move into PA and on. You will hear it before you see it (so they say).
The riggers who climb those utility towers are a different breed. Yes we can hear the electriity crackling. There are some high tension lines near my house and I've noticed that if we're under them and touching something metal like a car or bike we can feel a tingle. Did you feel anything like that?
@tresannrn8454
17 күн бұрын
On trail… we called them “fry Daddies”. lol.. definitely gives you a strange feeling
I noticed that a lot of hikers use the older hotels/motels . Most been service since smoking was allowed. My thing is most still smell like old smoke and of course I am so allergic to that. How have you found these older places?🦋❤️

Just imagine if all the weeds that hitchhiked on peoples clothes were pulled and replaced with herbs, leafy greens and other garden plants that provided nutrition along the way and all towns had trails of mulch for safe pedestrian traffic even along cities and towns where we reside, creation nationwide trails interconntected by others that desire what we as a hiking community create everywhere we go!?
