Day 60 The Cookie Lady's House in Afton, VA

There is still smoke haze in the air from the fires burning in Alberta, Canada. Such a long way for the smoke to travel!! I can feel the smoke in my throat and eyes. More traffic today on shoulderless roads. There were also lots of 10-14% climbs. The day's highlight was getting to the Cookie Lady's House in Afton, VA. This may be the most famous stop on the Trans Am Bike Route. June Curry, aka The Cookie Lady, died in 2012 but her house has been open to touring cyclists since the beginning of the route in 1976. She started out by handing out cookies and offering a hose for water. 27 miles with 2800 ft of climbing.

This channel is about all things trikes and travel. I have been riding a recumbent trike since 2005 and have been touring since 2007 all over the world. I have toured on 6 continents, in over 20 countries and cycled more than 100,000 miles. In 2020, I shifted from solo trike touring to solo RV travel. After completing a cross country solo trike ride am I now switching back to looking for primo spots and trails to ride my trike.
On this channel I have gear reviews, tips and tutorials but, mostly, I produce short travelogue type videos of my tours and rides as I go. I travel with a DJI Action 3, Insta360 One X2, Skydio 2 drone, DJI Mini Pro 3 and an iphone. Thanks for subscribing and following along!

Greetings. Your daily vids have not been offered to me on UTube for several weeks, so I was DELIGHTED to see you again, and from VIRGINIA. Welcome to our lovely state! I wish I could meet you, but that was May, and today is November. You have been an inspiration to us (super seniors-75-82) since our walking was greatly reduced 3 yrs ago and the future was depressing. We discovered trikes and haven't looked back. Visited Americana and experienced USofA as never imagined. Thank you.

The dogs are in Kentucky. Not sure about the pickup drivers further west I'm sure. I think people complain about the hills is because their doing forty or more miles a day. When I did this section on Adventure Cycling Association tour, we rode 51 miles from Charlottesville and climbed 5000 feet. I think numerous day like this take their toll. Also for the mast majority, they don't have elecric assist to help them up the road. I think my seventy year old riding partner would of appreciated the help on his two wheel recumbent.

I'm finding the beauty of Virginia to far out way the painful hills. It surprised me as the journals I read didn't really talk about the beauty.

I didn't realize you are just now into May. I was wondering why you were always bundled up for cold weather in the middle of the hottest summer on record.

Yes, I’ve been adding the date to the beginning of the video. Maybe it’s too subtle?
