Day 40-42 Walking to Blaye through the First Vineyards of Bordeaux along the GR655 from Paris

On Day 40-42 I walked 74 km from Pons to Blaye through the first vineyards of Bordeaux. Blaye is where the GR655 meets the Gironde Estuary. Pilgrims in a hurry cross the Gironde here by ferry and continue on through Margaux and Haut Medoc to Bordeaux. I had a bit of time so I chose the longer route to Bordeaux along the north shore.
This video is part of a series covering my post COVID project to walk the medieval pilgrim's trail from Paris to Bordeaux. I did it in the Spring of 2023. I have a playlist (introductory video below) which gives the full sequential list of videos for my walk. There are also other, shorter, playlists covering different aspects of the walk such as the best chateaux, the best churches and the best gardens.
The whole walk took 47 days and my route was the GR 655 which recreates the medieval Via Turonensis or Voie de Tours. Today not many pilgrims take this trail and one can walk stretches of it in perfect solitude. However, you do meet other pilgrims, especially in the portion of the walk from Tours to Bordeaux and can experience wonderful fellowship too.
The full route takes you to the Spanish border, crosses the Pyrenees and joins the famous el Camino to Santiago. Ambitious walkers go all the way, a journey of 1800 kms.
I am posting videos explaining, day by day with images, what the walk meant to me and could mean to others who might give it a try.
Here's the link to the introductory video of the series.

Thanks again for your descriptions of the sights along the way. At Blaye, the citadel must be 17th century for the most part as Vauban died in 1707, but he had many followers until the 19th century. The Côtes de Blaye wines are among the "abordable" Bordeaux's.

I should have checked because you are right. It was completed by Vauban in 1689. On the wine, I have always associated Bordeaux with reds so it was very nice to enjoy this white, which my great walking companion, Gilles, picked out. Sadly it can’t be found in the semi-rural Eastern Ontario.

@@highbanks.pilgrim by the way, I am familiar with a little bit of Ontario as many years ago I did some canoeing in a natural reserve on the lake called Pointe Pelée. Fascinating nature for an European !
