Lived in Bordeaux for three years and this videos brings back such fond memories!!! Food-wise don't miss out on the duck gizzard, duck confit, crème brûlée, macarons, chocolatine, canelés...getting hungry. Gotta go back some day 🤤

Nice overview ! I was born in Bordeaux and still live and work here. I'd add one Don't for your : don't forget the ocean or Bassin d'Arcachon. This is where Oysters (and other seafood like muscles and fish) are produced and you can eat them for half the price if you go to Ares harbour, or Andernos, La Teste, etc... You can rent a car for the day, it's 1h road trip .... or you can reach Arcachon by train if you want :) Cheers ! I've watched your "don'ts" from sweden and I agreee with ou as well. I've spent threee weekds there this summer :) Bonne continuation

When food is coming slowly, you know you're in a good place. Because it is being prepared fresh for you, not de-frosted in a microwave.

Yes, yes, yes! I went to Bordeaux for the first time a couple of weeks ago, but I was only there for a few hours. It looks fantastic. So clean and well cared for. Hardly any traffic in the city centre, but frequent trams. I'm definitely going to go back and spend more time there. While you're in western France you should come down and see Biarritz and Bayonne too.

@@user-od8qw7ti8k Bordeaux est une ville fortement agréable, on doit pas vivre dans la même ville, c'est vrai qu'il y a des bouchons et alors ? C'est la rocade au heures de pointes, wouah il y a beaucoup de voiture donc il y a des bouchons, quel nouvelle... Les transport en communs j'en prend 2 à 4 fois par jours, tramway et bus et il y a assez peu de problème même si c'est améliorable, la perfectibilité n'existe pas chez les êtres humains, nous ne sommes pas des machines. Et puis ville sale il faut pas abuser, que les poubelles débordes c'est une chose, de là à dire sale je ne suis pas d'accord.

Don't forget to visit the Base sous-marine. I think a lot of the digital art exhibitions are kind of a waste of time, but it was very cool to experience one in the dramatic setting of a former World War-II submarine base.

So nice to see my city featured in one of your videos ! 🤩 For reference, a public transportation ticket (TBM, "Transport Bordeaux Metropole") is roughly 2 bucks. Valid for one hour. During that hour you can switch transportation modes with the same ticket (start with a bus, switch to a tram, then bus again if it's within the hour same ticket).

Well now you've been to Bordeaux, why not try Toulouse ? I used to live there, you'll love the wine, the food, the stunning architecture, the museums (including the Cité de l'Espace), the rugby and all the great places you can get to from there (Andorra, Albi, Carcassonne, the Val d'Aran in Catalonia ...).

I was watching this and thinking the same thing Bordeaux and Toulouse are my two favourite places. Such beautiful cities. Im from bordeaux but I have to say people in Toulouse are incredibly nice and the rugby community is out of this world.

I just got back from Bordeaux after a 3 week trip through Europe. I didn't know what to expect, but I was impressed by how beautiful and clean Bordeaux is! Funny that you post this video after I was there. I can't wait to go back someday!

So do I, and I've lived in other cities before : Toulouse, Lyon, Marseille, Paris. Bordeaux is hands down the cleaner one @@xavierdebordeaux

I live in Bordeaux and all you are saying is top notch! I will just add that for the river you can take the "BatCub" is the city boat and it cost like a bus or tram ticket if you already have one. Don't take the ticket on the boat, it will cost you more. And don't skip Saint Michel district It has the highest tour in town "La Fleche Saint Michel" (Its now under renovation but it's big) and has a big open market : "Les Capucins"

I lived in Bordeaux for a few months. Such a cute city

Thank you for this vidéo ! Don't forget to taste our famous Cannelés ( the kids will be fond of these cakes!) And just a tip for you : travelling from Paris is cheaper with Ouigo , a Tgv train less modern than Inoui but as fast and good enough for a 2hours trip ❤

Take a day trip to Arcachon too, the best oysters

In two weeks I'm going to spend 3 days in Bordeaux and this video has some great to-do ideas. I've booked two 1/2 day wine tours so I'll have to squeeze 😆 all the other activities in between.

The Tram now goes right into the Airport but needs a simple change (close to Place de la Bourse) to get to the Train Station. Also Bordeaux is 2hours-20mins from Paris on the Train (TGV) and is quite cheap. It's quite something to be travelling around 200mph on a train as you fly past the cars on the Autoroutes.

I loved Bordeaux! Beautiful city and people. But Wolter, you forgot to tell them not to forget eating the canneles de Bordeaux pastry. They are delicious, and regional to Bordeaux. I can’t wait to go back ❤

I'm from bordeaux and if you liked it you should visit le bassin d'Arcachon, its just one or two hours south to bordeaux and its great too

Great video, thanks! Just spent 4 days in Bordeaux last week, my third visit. Love the city and agree with your recommendations.

I'm from Bordeaux and we are not all winegrowers and we drink water, beer, stuff like everyone else everywhere in the world :) I'm not a tourist guide but I think it's really worth having a good guide to know the secrets of Bordeaux like knowing where Victor Hugo lived, Montesquieu, Montaigne, places that have a particular history. And regarding the length of service in the restaurant, it's just a European way of life and not specifically linked to Bordeaux (except Paris but that's normal, it's the capital) Finally, Bordeaux is a modern European city like so many others: moreover, going to Rome, the historic city center reminded me of Bordeaux

Ever thought of going to the Czech Republic? Skip Prague, go to Brno and Morovia. Great wine, beer, food! Environment is beautiful! Amazing castles and not to touristy! But last but not least, very affordable!

The service isn’t slow, we’re just too much in hurry 😅

The best part of France to visit are departments Dordogne and Lot. Bordeaux and Toulouse are beautiful cities in the vicinity.

I spent a week in Bordeaux in 2018, and it was fantastic. Much more chill than Paris!

Love Bordeaux wine, especially the red, especially St Emillion.

Wolter, can you confirm the names of the meat dishes covered with that delicious gravy? I love my meat and chicken. Can you some dishes ? I plan on visitng this town next month and will make my way by train from Paris.

A quick glance at my European Rail Timetable shows that a TGV (on average) takes only only two-and-a half hours from Paris to Bourdeaux. I would disagree on the Citypass point. When visiting a city in Continental Europe always buy some kind of Citypass. It saves the huge bother of having to buy a ticket every time you want to a tram/bus/metro.

Worth noting that French trains go on strike quite a lot. Just something to be aware of.

Sod the wine, Get a pint of London Pride !! British beer at the Charles Dickins Pub near Place de la Bourse the French love it 😂 ❤

I think that's a great idea for you and Jocelyn to take a "couples trip" with another couple. You've been so great in taking the boys all over the world but occasionally it would be nice for you as a couple to go somewhere nice. I would love to spend 3 or 4 days in Bordeaux.

Does Mark have a particular accent? I understand almost everything without having to read the transcript and that's quite rare.

​@@grouloulle he travels a lot, so probably is just used to speaking more clearly. Regardless, as an Englishman I can hear his accent and tell very roughly where he is from in America by it. It's quite a subtle accent, so it's not surprising if a non-native English speaker struggles to pick up on it.

Walter would love to know the further south you go how much French do you need to know. I know once I got in France not knowing any French I felt really limited. I love their country so just asking

The younger generation in particular will have some English. Not so much the post-60 age group but then again ... Mark will tell you that a few simple phrases of French from a phrase book will open not a few doors.

It was very challenging in Bordeaux. You will need to know some French, or use an app to help translate. Bordeaux is beautiful, well worth a visit! The people are friendly too.

We do have an English speaking population, indirectly due to historical reasons (Aquitaine was part of the kingdom of England during most of the Middle Ages) and because the British have a love for the place. But otherwise, it won't be any different from other French cities, except perhaps for Paris

Not sure if the city toned down the water mist. I was in Bordeaux 3 days ago and it was so disappointing compared to the shots in this video. Maybe people complained about losing sight of their kids. The place is fun, but you can see from one side to the other no problem, unlike what appears in the shots here, where people appear through the mist.

They also may have toned it down due to water restrictions. The weather hasn't been kind to France these past few years and natural water reserves are in critical condition. I'm sure you've also heard about the wildfires near Bordeaux last year for which our neighbours in Europe sent firefighters and equipment for, and have drained a lot of the area's freshwater.

Dont go to the cite du vin, go to the bar au vin, its large glasses of tasters for between 2 and 6 Euros, way way better.

How do you get a cheap chateau? how do you go on a wine tour?

1) There's no such thing as a "cheap" chateau. Unless, of course, you're a millionaire, in which case the word "cheap" is not in your vocabulary. 😁 2) In a bus with other people? 😂🤣

Bordeaux is also the name of my favorite chocolate. Those of us from Northeast Ohio and enjoy Malley’s will know what I’m talking about.

Bordos and Bordon'ts

I do hope that everyone realizes that, when you mention the "don'ts", you also kind of point out the "Doe's"!!!

The French, Italians and Japanese as well as many other nationalities take food very seriously. Not all but the typical American does not. The French may appear to be snobs since they do not want to deal with the typical Americans bad behavior.

I was just thinking about going there. Not interested in their food or wine, but heading to see sand dunes.

This land belongs to the English

This was interesting but totally mislabelled. But maybe that means you found few real "cons", although I was actually looking for a realistic review of the city, including any true negatives.

Yeah, many train controllers are assholes, to be fair, they have to deal with a lot of stupid people, but still. You should really take your tickets on the app, never in the station as you might end up in the situation you were in. They can give you ticket in the train, but you have to pay a fee for that.
