I’m late to the party but it looks similar to the “tilt shift” effect which can be used to make objects appear smaller or toy-like.

You can mix in a translucency node to make it more realistic. I use translucency in a lot of things like cloth, injection molded plastic, paper, window blinds, etc. It really adds dimension and realism
