On Day 300, I can’t express how much this study has taught and retaught me! The Bible alone is wonderful, but what Tara Leigh shares helps me truly understand and is so relatable to our current life. My goal this year is not to keep this plan to myself but share it with others.

The verse where the prodigal son is seen by his father a great distance away indicates to me that the father was looking for him daily and scanning the horizon for any signs of his son. Just like our Heavenly Father seeks us daily.

I am so grateful for Bible Recap and Tara. Love how she puts or explains everything in terminology that we today can relate to or understand. Praying for all the prodigal children to return, come to know Jesus, and restore the families 🙏♥️

I love the parables in Luke 15, especially about the prodigal son. I praise Yahweh, the Lord, for never giving up on me when I was lost and in sin. He found me and brought me back to Himself! What is standing out to me in today's reading is ‭Luke‬ ‭14:26. In the‬ ‭ESV, it says, ‬“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple." I am thinking about my earthly father. He is 83, a believer, and he is not well. In fact, he keeps telling the family to pray that the Lord gets him out of here. He is so ready to be with Jesus. Although we know where he will go (with the Lord in eternity), it's still hard to hear. Please pray for my mom and our family. Thank you.

May the Father give your mother peace and assurance of the eternal joy that she’ll always have with your father, and that your father will be able to comfort your whole family with God’s grace as he looks ahead to being with the Father.

With the lost sheep, coin, and son, I see God's pursuit of sinners and the rejoicing that comes when they are found (Luke 15). I love the picture of Him joyfully putting the lost sheep on His shoulders and going home (Luke 15:5) ❤️

In the parable of the prodigal son, I see the love of the father for both of his sons. He did not have any resentment for the son who left, and instead welcomed with open arms. This is encouraging to know that our Heavenly Father is like this towards us, His children.

I am so the older brother. I would have been jealous and saying the exact same things. And then, for TLC to say that these were the Pharisees (I just related to them in a post on a previous day), it definitely stepped on my toes.

Good morning! I definitely know what you mean about seeing myself in the Pharisees. I’ve loved Jesus as long as I can remember and have lived a life that has been very “clean” (by the way I am 53). Because of this, I can see that I have struggled with feeling morally superior to people and maybe like God has loved me a little bit more than others. Oh, boy, do I have it wrong! During this month of October, I have seen just how like the Pharisees I have been, and I have deep remorse over my attitude! I thank and praise God for his mercy and forgiveness. The sin of pride is so deep and secret. Have a blessed day my brother or sister.!

@@Susi.312 I totally understand and agree. I'm about the same age as you and grew up in a Christian home, saved when I was 16. I definitely haven't lived like I'm a Christian for a large chunk of that time but felt that I was being "better" than most (my sins weren't as bad as others, right) and the fact that I was saved made me feel morally superior, especially during the times I thought I was living "right". Oh yeah, October has been eye-opening. I feel like it's going to be hard for me to change so many years of legalistic thought. As you said, thank God for his mercy and forgiveness. Prayers for us both.

I’m learning that the foundation of holiness is humility (see John Bevere’s “The Awe of God”), and that Jesus is first teaching the teachers that in humility, they should count others as better than themselves (Phil 2:3-4). Our holiness is evident by the intimacy we have with the Father, and the older son held himself above his brother and looked at his father for what he was owed, not for the relationship he could have with his father. Jesus is saying, “Draw close to the Father, for all I have is yours.”

I found it interesting that the pharisees are the lost. I felt the truth of that in this reading today. If that's the case, we should remain hopeful for the "pharisees" today. Would you all consider certain church leaders or people in your own lives pharisaical? Then God will rejoice and we should too if and when they repent. Not just us lowly sinners, but the high-minded as well? Are we to search them out, chase after them? I think we avoid them - the hypocrites, the legalistic.

The Pharisees sets Jesus up in a trap. Healing a man on the sabbath. He is teaching them humility is the path to blessing. In the kingdom of God the discarded and poor know they need God’s provisions. The wealthy and important have other priorities and things that take their time. Blessings aren’t bad. The problem comes when they sideline the one who blesses. Following Jesus means self denial. I renounce the right to everything. Nothing is mine but my savior. Parables- The sheep, the coin and the son. The coin shows us that God rejoices at recovering the lost. Prodigal means wasteful The sons entitlement has been starved out of him. Jesus may have been portraying the tax collectors and sinners as the younger son and the Pharisees as the older son given to legalism and moral superiority. Don’t be too busy missing out on the Father’s heart bc you’re too busy hating sinners. God celebrates our nearness to Him. He sees our future as a present reality. He sees us as Holy because Jesus has taken our debt and given us His righteousness 💗 .

‭‭Luke‬ ‭15:18‭-‬24‬ ‭NIV‬‬ [18] I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. [19] I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ [20] So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. [21] “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ [22] “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. [23] Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. [24] For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. [31] “ ‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. [32] But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ ” luke.bible/luke-15-18
