Bryan, I discovered your series on autistic burnout when searching for a podcast on it. Firstly, I hope you are well. Secondly, thank you. I am mid thirties, got diagnosed as autistic 3 years ago, and for the last 2--3 years have had a very challenging/stressful job, as well as challenges away from work. Over the last few months, I have found a snowballing effect of not being organised, of not being able to maintain a schedule of showering/teeth cleaning etc., of not sleeping properly, of being so tired after everything. When you're the first person you know to go through this, you ask yourself "are you being lazy? Try harder!" and of course it all compounds as you do. How do you tell your boss "I just don't have it in me"?! My local doctor doesn't seem to understand it; doesn't know what to do. Anyway, the point I wanted to make was your podcasts have been extremely validating and helpful to know "oh, somebody has had the same things I'm experiencing" - including a bit of a boom/bust cycle - and knowing that you're experiencing difficulty in finding a route out, but navigating (I hope) eventually (I'm only halfway through) is a comfort that I'm not alone. Take care of yourself, as you would others. Thank you again.

Chai is usually my morning drink too. I like Trader Joe’s Spiced Chai tea bags. I make a pot with raw sugar and milk, and usually add some liquid caffeine for a boost. I know it’s not easy. I’m working through a burn out period myself. I hope you are doing better and have the space for your brain to rest and heal.

I deeply empathize with your situation and I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you've been facing. Over the past year, I have personally experienced autistic burnout and navigating a toxic environment has made it even more difficult. Despite having been fortunate enough to sustain myself financially as a hermit, the recent downturn in the stock market has compelled me to seek employment. However, I am currently grappling with burnout and the added stress of being in a toxic environment with unsupportive family and spouse. Although I still have my home and possessions, the future feels uncertain and anything can happen within a few months. I'm currently at a loss regarding the best course of action and how to communicate my struggles effectively to my wife. The abuse I endured from my family prior to this has made it challenging to maintain a sense of normalcy in a neurotypical world. Now, I find myself struggling to find the motivation to continue in this situation.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope something I mention here might help! I wish there was more I could say than that.

@@bryanjolson2367 You know, it's tough when you realize how many people are going through the same stuff as you, yet there's this lack of support. It's like, we're all hurting, dealing with the same things, but there's no one to turn to for a kind word or a friendly smile, even just for a moment. So, I've decided to step out of my comfort zone and take on this sales job. It's scary, I won't lie, but I'm determined to push myself. If I fail, well, at least it'll be a starting point for me to try something else again. But I can't shake this anxiety about starting at the new job. I kick things off on the fifth, so wish me luck! And here's hoping things start looking up for all of us soon. And you know, what you said really did help me. Knowing that others have gone through similar experiences and can relate means a lot. So, I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. It's reassuring to know we're not alone in our struggles.
