    Size of the float i use is mostly dependent on depth and flow although i do use quite heavy floats on the worm as it makes it easier to jig about. 0.2 floats are fine for most of your rigs and it's all about confidence in what you are using👍

    Loved every second of this upload Dave. I know that stretch well. But did you miss a trick come sandwich o'clock? Seemed to be when you could only catch tiddlers! We were taught as kids that there's always three parts/sections to each feed for each swim. As soon as the tiddlers get to the bait first you switch to an identical depth swim fed at 50% intervals to your banker, allowing you to rotate and keep the better stamp coming. I miss fishing cut matches, far more technical than commercials (imo). The three stage metod being basically 1st stage catch what's there, 2nd stage the stamp gets bigger, 3rd stage the tiddlers mop up what's left. By two hours into the match we were taught to Identify the banker lines asap, then rotate three identical depth swims with the same rig in order to stay in touch with the 2nd stage. All that before I was 12 years old. Stafford Izaak Walton Juniors FTW 1993😄😄

  • @davebrownfishing

    @davebrownfishing

    Жыл бұрын

    That's where me and you differ, i don't like putting too many groundbait lines in as imo it splits fish about, and leaves less room in your peg to do other things! I'll stick to what I'm doing as i don't think I'm doing too bad😘 P.s i think commercials are far more technical than canals🤔

    @@davebrownfishing Hahaha That just about sums it up for me.. For a living I drive HGV C1/c2/Reach/Counterbalance/Flexi/Yard shunters/PPTs for fun yet most people crash cars!! How can you split fish if every 60 seconds they naturally swim 10m in either direction? The shoal moves/even if there's food they follow safety in numbers! Splitting the shoal is a man made ideal... I'm pretty certain the fish don't care about what we think.................🥰🥰

  • @davebrownfishing

    @davebrownfishing

    Жыл бұрын

    Fish do swim and there is absolutely safety in numbers. Fish don't care what we think, their instincts is to eat and survive. Your idea of having multiple lines doing similar things is not for me as if your timings are wrong you could miss that shoal! As i say i think i do ok employing the tactics i use.

  • @mynamesnotdave695

  • @davebrownfishing

    @davebrownfishing

    Жыл бұрын

    @@mynamesnotdave695 i don't see how that can be classed as 3 different swims, if it's within 1500mm🤔 the natural spray of squatts will feed more than that area alone, so you couldn't feed them different. Plus my single line will cover upto 3 metres away from where the groundbait has gone in🤷‍♂️

    Dave do you fish just off your fed area... Say 2ft or so or sit on top of feed?

  • @davebrownfishing

    @davebrownfishing

    Жыл бұрын

    At times i've fished upto 3 metres away from where I've fed mate, bites will dictate where i spend my time! On top of the feed can be best, other times it can be the worst place to be. There's times when fishing upstream of our feed is best! It's a trial and error thing, on the day.

    You can't beat those pleasure fishing pegs can you mate? 😆 I've had 1 or 2 of those and to be honest you can't really win, because if you do bag up then it's because of the peg, and if you catch nothing (which can happen) then you're shit 😆 Nice to see a couple of anglers from my day, Martin Owen and Simon Nickless. With these guys, Paul & Neil Turner, and Peter Plant & Planty Junior, and Dave Berrow, if you beat these guys then you're probably in the money. I've seen Paul Turner in a few recent videos but I haven't seen anything of Neil, Berrows, or the Plants for over 20 years 👍

    Dave Berrows and Neil Turner were on the festival. Pete Plant ( my hero❤️) unfortunately died a couple of years ago😪 Pete Plant Jnr doesn't fish anymore and hasn't really for a fair few years. He only ever really fished Fisho qualifiers with his dad.

    @@davebrownfishing Oh mate that's terrible news about Pete, I had no idea😢 I remember fishing a fishomania qualifier in about 1996 on the Trent & Misery when Pete Plant jnr won the match. If I remember rightly he drew a good peg in Alrewas and won with about 25lb of carp....... Me? I drew at Wychnor, right next to the A38 and caught virtually fuck all 😆as did my fishing partner at the time who drew near the Oakamoor transport café where it was usually good for a few chub but they didn't feed. We knew it was gonna be a carp weight that'd win so you had to have a go for them if you wanted to finish in the top 2, but unfortunately they were only small numbers of them in certain areas. Anyway I hope you do well in that festival mate, if I was still living up there and had my gear then I would probably have fished that meself 👍

It wasn't the best stretch of canal for a match like that, and the fact that junior only caught 2 carp and won the match with 20 odd pounds showed that even the noted areas like Alrewas didn't produce much either on the day 😎👍
