Iowa and Caitlin fan here, and I think Dawn’s comments here are all completely legit. I don’t remember hearing much about Aliyah Boston last season since Caitlin got all the press, but since then I’ve seen plenty of interviews with Aliyah and she seems like a fantastic young woman. Totally agree that there should be room for lots of players’ stories. At the very least, I think Caitlin has brought enough attention to the game that people are discovering other players as well.

I be truly "LOVING" the Girls...NO! the Women's collegiate games n WNBA..I Like what Dawn stands for n represents in the Women's game. I respect n appreciate the GAMECOCKS play ability. During the 2022 NCAA WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP GAME...I saw that S.C. was hungry n push UCONN physically "being physical" in the paint..UCONN was stunned but didn't realize the "Hunger", the Gamecocks was ready to do what was needed to accomplish their goal...period. I look forward to a possible rematch if the brackets allow it. "LETS GO WOMENS BASKETBALL!!!!" a UCONN fan. since 2002. GREAT WORK n CONTENT..much appreciated..keep it going. 🤗

Honestly, when there is a great player now and historically they are highlighted because they are so rare. I’m a white Roman and I don’t think this is about race - Examle - Michael Jordan - it would be hard to find s as home of any race in America who doesn’t know his name even after all these years later. He was special and so is to do many! For other girls in the league right now, it does suck that they are playing in a time of such a a great generational player because Caitlin Clark is all that’s being talked about but that’s how it is. Patrick Mahomes - I’m sure to be any NFL quarter back right not sucks because he is dominating and such a special player. I say this with sincerity that it doesn’t matter the race of someone - when they’re special they’re special. Diana Taurasi was the only women’s basketball player that I knew of until Caitlin Clark because she too was and is special. I also think what sets Caitlin and Taurasi apart from other players is they have so much swag and are charismatic that you can help but notice them out of everyone in the room!! Although, I will say Raurasi has more swag then Caitlin and I’m here for it!

I mean okayy.. but Caitlin Clark just had a 40 point triple double... the player of the year shouldn't be mentioned... not to mention the fact of her name being the main topic. Your TEAM is amazing not to mention your players as well... but to have this conversitation surrounding one person being the stepping stone where she transends everyone else isnt fair to her imo. Its like dissing Curry during his unanimous MVP season eventho he clearly desvered it comapred.

I am huge Dawn Staley fan and a South Carolina fan but I have to say I don't like how she is talking about this Player of the Year stuff. There is obviously no bias against Aaliyah as she won the award last year. That absolutely plays in to the decision. YOU Dawn are the one that doesn't decide to play Aaliyah more minutes which would result in higher stats for her, because you have the luxury of a great bench and want to save her for Championship run which is what is really important. But you can't have your cake an eat it too here by bring out the race card at the last minute. I know you tried to say that you didn't but you did by bringing saying it right before you said you weren't saying it. She should have said something like, "Aaliyah's presence on defense and her leadership, her ability to draw multiple defenders on offense leaving teammates free to score. The way the other team has to gameplan for her....etc..." that is the proper way to make the case for your player.

Whine whine whine. Who isn't talking about SC as the best team this year? No one. National Player of the year is almost always going to be a scorer which does not bode well for SC players this year since they are defense and team oriented and spread the wealth. Is Caitlyn Clark better that AB? We wont ever know. 2 different players. Why does everyone need to be highlighted? What exactly does that look like? Sounds like Dawn is just Jealous. The San Antonio Spurs were the best team for years but were not as popular as teams with high profile stars. Why because they were really really good but not as exciting as teams with players like Kobe and the like. Well SC. that is you. Stop blaming the narrative. You don't have super charismatic players that are exciting to watch like a Caitlyn Clark. I don't personally think she is as great as she is being promoted either but damn she is exciting. It doesn't' have to be about race. It's who is entertaining to watch. Sorry SC. Smothering physical defense just isn't as exciting as athletic offense. It's too bad but that is the way it is. Nothing more to make of it. Helping to get more credit would be to continue to win championships and stop the whining. Not a good look.

I am a SC fan and I think Clark has had a better season that Boston. But Boston is the better player and it's not really close. That is the conundrum. Boston being the the consensus "Best Player" in women's college Basketball (while Bueckers is hurt) while Clark having incredible stats against a tough schedule. The tough schedule gives her the edge over Seigrest.
